Hi All,
I am curious as to what a competitive applicant has for an ATI TEAS score, GPA, prereqs. I understand the minimum TEAS was 78, but it has been temporarily lowered to 65.
Obviously, the higher the scores the better, but what does an average accepted applicant's scores look like?
What is a solid TEAS score for acceptance, do I have to score in the 90s or are scores in 70s adequate?
Do most selectees earn A's on their Zoology and MICR, or are B's competitive? Essentially, I am wondering if I should fork out additional money to retake the zoology classes to raise the B's to A's or is that an unwise use of tight funds?
Any guidance is appreciated.
Hi Ellers,
I believe it was around a 3.8 for my cumulative and maybe around a 3.8 for my prerequisites as well. I'm not sure about my prerequisite GPA because I don't remember if they factor in my corequisite grades and my grade for chemistry. I did not finish statistics yet nor have healthcare experience. My TEAS score was 88. I'm not sure if I will attend KCC yet or not, and I'm sure there are many other people who are undecided as well, so there is always a good chance!
Great scores chuddly! I believe if you can get into KCC you can definitely get into UH as I think the requirements for UH are much easier to attain. For KCC they only look at your pre-req and co req gpa and does not include chemisty, same goes for UH. UH will only take your highest grades for the categories listed on their list. For KCC my pre-req is 3.7 but with UH it is 4.0. I did not apply for UH because I missed one category of the teas by 1 or 2 questions. Do you how much were accepted? I checked the class availability and it shows 30 seats. Do you know other people who were accepted? I want to be able to prepare my chances if I do not make it in. Did you finish all your co-reqs?
Congrats chuddly!! Both schools are really good academically. The passing rates for the graduates taking NCLEX are in the 90's for both. UH Manoa has the new state of the art simulation labs, which I would definitely want to study in. KCC is known for their clinical experience. Either school in my opinion is a good choice.
I hope to get accepted to at least one of them. With those scores I don't see why you wouldn't get accepted to UH's program! :)
Hi guys! I jumped on your thread and read your posts and wanted to offer some insight and encouragement (at least I hope it's encouraging). I know what it's like to wonder and question about admissions, alt lists, acceptance numbers, etc. I just started the ADN program at KCC this Fall. Here's some help:
I received my alternate letter in April when letters were initially sent out. 2 wks later, I got my acceptance into the program. I don't really wanna mention stats because I don't think you can really compare (and honestly? You go crazy comparing yourself to others). I compared with some of my classmates and I couldn't figure out how some of us even got in. If you are an alternate, 1) go to orientations, 2) get your health requirements, 3) keep your head up. You can be notified as late as a week before the start. If you don't get selected before the semester starts, you WILL have to reapply for the next one. If you don't get in, don't get discouraged. This was my 4th application. Keep your head up and look for ways to get hands-on experience and improve your grades. And even consider the PRCN program. It may take longer, but all roads will lead you to your RN licensure (if you want it).
Secondly, NURS210 is the ADN course. If the seats available are 30, that's it. Only 30 seats. NURS212 is the required pathophysiology class and yes, the available seats may be 42, but those extra 12 seats are for LPN-TRANS students. I only mention this because I wouldn't want you to get your hopes up and be confused. I'm almost certain 30 may be the number of ADN students entering the semester.
And lastly, if you are accepted into UHM or KCC, do your research and really ask yourself what you want out of the program. KCC will lead you to your BSN in 3 years (just like UHM), that's why the Hawaii State Nursing Consortium was created: so CC students could have a seamless transition into their last year to obtain their BSN. Either program, you can still get the degree you want. The curriculums are aligned (hence the consortium's purpose), but KCC does focus on turning out great skills nurses. I can't vouch much for UHM because I don't know too much. But do your research, consider your options, and decide which is best for you.
Nursing is a tough field to get into. Getting into the program is just one beast to tackle. Once you're in, there's so much more obstacles to jump. But if you really want to do this, you'll make it happen. Keep it up! I know what it was like to stalk these boards to find answers. So, hope this helps you guys a little!
Thanks ellers! Haha I did ok on the English usage but it was my 2nd lowest score (after reading comprehension). Did you take the practice tests from the ATI website? That might help. The more practice tests you take, the more confident you will be on test day. I took the NLN for Manoa too (before I found out that KCC doesn't accept NLN exam anymore) and it was way harder than the TEAS in my opinion!
I'm taking Dunn at KCC for ZOOL 142 lecture and lab. I heard he's hard, but his class was the only one that fit my schedule. I still need to take pharm too, I'll probably take it next semester
Hi:) I just wanna share my experience. Almost 2years ago I took NLN and I got 116. I only got 49 on verbal so there was no chance to go to UH. Then I decided to give TEAS a try but I only scored 76. I knew that couldn't get me into ADN. I really didn't wanna retake those tests. They are expensive! I thought instead of waiting I might as well give PRCN a try. I got in and graduated last August. I met a traveling nurse during my med-surg rotation and she made me realize how much I wanna be a traveling nurse! I never ever regret the decision I made to give that program a try because I had a taste of how life really is in nursing school. Some people think it's a waste of time to get into that program. They never realize how much time they are wasting waiting and trying to get into ADN. If you already tried twice, you could have been an LPN already!
Anyway, I applied for the transition and ADN. I was pretty sure I couldn't get into transition because grades on summer class were posted on Aug26th(I think) and they needed the applications by Sept1st. I was sure I couldn't get my LPN license before that. (I'm taking my NCLEX-PN this week anyway, wish me luck!)
I got into ADN for spring2014. I still didn't retake my TEAS! I applied with 76. That's pretty low. I think the PRCN experience really helped me a lot. I met most of the professors and counselors in nursing dept. I got all my prereqs and coreqs done though. I think getting them all done before turning your application is a huge factor.
Good luck guys. I'm pretty sure people back out when they get their UH acceptance letter. Let's hope for that. Don't be discourage. When it gets tough, just remember how much you want this. Reminding yourself the reason behind all these hard work really keeps you going. Nobody said it's gonna be easy, so just hang in there. I really hope to see you all on Nov8!

Yea I wasn't sure of that either. It didn't make sense to me at all. But I have a classmate now who just graduated from the ADN program and he said he was also an alt student and was accepted. For his cohort they took 6 from the alt list I'm still waiting for his reply on how many were on the alt list for his cohort. And I also read a post on here where they said for their cohort almost all the alt were selected and they were still short 37 out of 40 if I'm not mistaken. But this was in 2011. Im just crossing my fingers and praying we all get selected. Or that you guys get in UH since you guys applied also. :-)
