Kapiolani CC ADN selection

  1. What was your TEAS score for KCC?

Hi All,

I am curious as to what a competitive applicant has for an ATI TEAS score, GPA, prereqs. I understand the minimum TEAS was 78, but it has been temporarily lowered to 65.

Obviously, the higher the scores the better, but what does an average accepted applicant's scores look like?

What is a solid TEAS score for acceptance, do I have to score in the 90s or are scores in 70s adequate?

Do most selectees earn A's on their Zoology and MICR, or are B's competitive? Essentially, I am wondering if I should fork out additional money to retake the zoology classes to raise the B's to A's or is that an unwise use of tight funds?

Any guidance is appreciated.

Hi,

I was wondering the same thing. My Teas was a 74.7 but I am retaking it because I am also hoping to get into UHM. I know they recently lowered the minimum score, so not exactly sure what the average will be. I have a B in Zool141 but A in 142, I am going to try and see if its good enough, my pre-rep gpa is 3.76 and my cgpa is 3.83. With Manoa I know they only take into consideration ONE of your Zool class, which ever one is higher.

Have you taken Pharm203 yet?

Thanks for the reply, it doesn't seem like the Hawaii section is to active. I haven't taken PHRM yet, I hope to take it this fall. I have not really looked into UHM. If KCC doesn't work out, I will apply through UH, but right now I am looking to knock the ADN out and get to work.

Hi, I scored a 74.6 on the exam, my pre req GPA is 3.8 including Pharm 203. I just applied for the Fall 2013 program at KCC, fingers crossed. Im guessing with as many applicants expected, people with experience in the medical field will be chosen first. Ellers.. did you retake the exam?

When i spoke to a nursing supervisor she said that ATI scores in the upper 80's and low 90's is competitive. Im thinking if im not excepted i will go for my CNA and retake the exam.

Has anyone been accepted with a score in the 70's or know anyone who has???

Roz26- not yet. I am set to take it on aug 23. I'm not feeling to confident. I have a great deal of trouble with grammar section. That seems to be my only problem area. I am planning on having my application all filled out so after I finish the exam I will take my application in the same day. Good luck! Hopefully you guys get in :-)

I'm hoping to do a walk-in test on the 12th of August. I'm kind of scared of the reading comprehension and math portion. Math is one of my weak subjects and my reading comprehension is not the greatest. I've been reading the ATI study guide and watching khan academy videos to brush up on my math, hopefully it helps out for the test. Anyways, good luck on your test and KCC applications! I'll post my score after I take the test.

Hi first try at KCC, have 4.0 on prereqs and 1 class of coreq, but no pharm. also barely passed teas with a 78. Currently in science which really helped in math and science of the test but sucked at grammar big time. I had a bottom 25 percentile, so it hurt me bad, but I also didn't study so bad on me. Good luck on the teas rocking.

I got a 81.3 Adjusted Individual Score (AIS) on my TEAS V. Thank GOD it's over! I'm so relieved. Shockingly, my reading comprehension was my highest score with a 98%. The other three subjects were 77-78%, which isn't good for UH-Manoa. Now all I have to wait for is the acceptance/rejection letter. My pre-reqs (co-reqs included) aren't the greatest...about 3.4. Hopefully, my TEAS score helps out with my points for acceptance. Anyways, good luck Ellers, Cougar68, and CPO1893!

Congrats rockinitfreshhawaii! I'm taking mines next week. I have been studying for 6 weeks and I have been taking mock test twice a week. I need high scores to try for UH I have a higher Pre req with uh than Kcc. I will come back on here and let you know how I did! Good luck everyone!

Thanks Ellers! UH's scores are pretty high in the individual subject scores. I think it's like 80% in the Reading, Science, and English...correct? I want to apply for UH but my scores just didn't make the mark. I wonder if my old NLN is still valid to apply with. Anyways, good luck on your test. Keep studying and make sure you don't stress out too much during the test. Also, utilize your time wisely. Will this be your first time taking the test?

Rockinitfreshhawaii, no this is will be my second time. The first time all my scores were too low for both Kcc and UH but only because I had two weeks to study plus I was working and taking five classes. But I think I'm ready. from all the practice I've been doing it seems my score keeps getting higher and higher. Hopefully it's like that on the actual test. I believe nln is good for 3 years. I took nln and got all 90s except my verbal which was 49! I wanted to cry! And yes UH wants you to score super high. 83.6 for reading and 80 for grammar. 66.7 for science and 86.7 on the math. I want to get into Kcc though cuz it way cheaper to go this route and then bridge over to uhm.

WOW only 2 weeks and a full time class load?! It must've been crazy difficult to juggle class time, working, and studying for the TEAS. I hope you do well this time around. It's a tough exam but very manageable to get a good score.

3 years?! Wow! I think I can still apply to UH then. Last time I took the NLN was 2 years ago. Woo! My prereq GPA for Manoa is a bit higher than my gpa for KCC. My NLN was kinda low though, but I'll apply anyways. It's worth a shot. How is your GPR? Pretty high?

KCC's tuition is what lured me in. I know that both UH and KCC have great reputation for producing skilled nurses, but financing my education for KCC's tuition is a lot easier than UH's.
