I was working ER in a large college town, the paramedics brought in to motorcycle accident victims, one was a 20yr old female coed, she had been at a club and went for a motorcycle ride with a guy, when he lost control of the bike and she was thrown off and slid onto the concrete curb, tearing all skin from her gluteal area to her thoracic region, she had lost alot of blood, I infused 8 units of pack cells and 2 of platelets, when she began to DIC, at one point whe looked up at me and said," Rick, am I going to die" I immediately said ," No " she died on the operating table, I wonder to this day if I should have told her yes and gotten the hospital chaplain, but there wasn't any time, she is still in my prayers. Read my story entitled " Down and Dirty in the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing," on this site. Take Care.:)
Almost four years ago, October 2000, I was in the process of discharging a newborn and her mom from the PP unit I worked on. The baby starting having seizures, though at the time, I didn't know it, having never seen an infant seize before!! Well, to make a very long story a little shorter, the baby was having seizures from hypoglycemia, had a BS of 7 when we admitted her to NICU.After two weeks of tests, she was diagnosed with Beckwith-Wiedmann Syndrome.
The family lived more than an hour away from the hospital, and had the baby not had that seizure as I was removing security bands, she would have died in the car on the way home.
Her mother credited me with saving the baby's life, and vowed I would see every birthday, and every major event for rest of her life!
Yesterday, I had the utmost pleasure of watching that beautiful little girl dance in her first dance recital. I cried watching her dance on that stage, and was in awe, that this was the same child that scared me to death that day almost four years ago.
I have always had my faith and belief in God, but I truly believe that it was God who saved her life that day, it just happens that I was the one there!
Her mom and I still talk about the 'what if's', it's hard not to. But, we both agree, that things happen for a reason.

What a wonderful story. It seems like God looks out for our little people, and lets us get credit.
