Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

So I just found out today I'm Prego! I as about to meet with someone tomorrow to discuss which route in school . I was ready to quit my job or at least work part time but that is out of the question now since we need to go into saving mode. Do you guys think its worth while to start slow? I was thinking of doing the CNA and LPN this year and maybe part time on my prerequisites then after the baby is born go full throttle on RNA. Any advice guys?

Honestly, if I were you.... I would do AS MUCH as you can pre-req wise before your baby is born. I have three kids and did all my pre-reqs before I had them. I have just been accepted to the Jan 2013 program and my girls are 6, 4, and 1. It will be hard to be away from them.... but I know it could be so much worse if I had all those pre-reqs to do in addition to the nursing classes. Best of luck and Congrats!!!!

I second getting as much as possible done before baby is born. If you have help or if there is child care on your campus, you may decide to take a semester off after birth, but you can definitely do this! I started school with 3 and 5 year olds. I've been full time every semester. It's been hard, but doable. Get it done now before baby # 2 gets here. :)

I say just focus on your prereq's. Don't be afraid about being pregnant and going to school. As a matter of fact my very first semester (2 1/2 years ago) I was pregnant with my fourth child. I had to miss the last day of classes for that semester because I was in the hospital giving birth! Luckily I had my daughter over winter break and then started up right away for spring semester. If you want it bad enough go for it!! You can do anything you put your mind and heart into!

Pregnancy is nothing compared to motherhood. Once you're a parent your time is not your own. Like others have said, do as much as you can before your baby is born. After your baby is born, you can determine the best time to go back to school. You may be able to do it right away, or may decide to wait a year or two.

I was in a similar situation to yours. I was IN school doing my cna/ma program so that I could go into the RN program that coming September. Well...I found out at the beginning of January that I was pregnant with TWINS! On top of that I already had a 2 year old and I was the bread winner of the family. I thought about stopping my cna/ma program to work more, but decided not to and finished up the program with honor roll that April. If I were not the bread winner, I would have started the RN program that Sept even though my twins were due at the end of Aug. That was in 2010. Just 1 month ago I finally went back to work on my RN and wish I could have done some before the kids were born because now I have 3 kids under 4 years, work full time, and go to school full time. So, all that to say, get as much done as possible before you have the baby!!! Oh, and btw congratulations!
