Just failed 1st exam

Published

Hey everyone,

I am in an ADN program and in my 2nd semester (Maternity/Peds). We had our first exam this week and I got a 62. Our passing is a 70. This isnt the way I wanted to start the semester off because the exams are only going to get harder from here on out and it is really discouraging. I dont think the exam was that hard, pretty much everything we went over in lecture was on the exam. But it was just very tricky when it came down to the test questions because it went into specifics. I have the Test success for maternity and peds and I even have the saunders Nclex review. Im not sure what to do from here. I feel like a failure and finding it hard to bring myself back up. My next exam is in 3 weeks and I want to do well. I usually listen to the lectures and type the notes on the computer and go to the book to fill in any additional information. What am I doing wrong? Any advice or tips from anyone? Feeling down in the dumps

IMO the first test in a class is always the hardest. You now know what the questions are going to look like and can go from there. Also, meet with your teacher and ask if she/he has any suggestions. Chin up, you can do it!

Does your textbook have an additional CD or online site. I know our main textbook had an online site you could go to and take test questions for the particular chapters, also could do a crossword puzzle on there too.

Wow to the 70%, we had to have 75% or higher, otherwise it was a failing grade and then we had to have an appointment with the instructor.

Good luck...keep going!

I usually tend to think the first test is the hardest because I don't know what the teacher is looking for or going to emphasize. I had the same problem last week, only I just barely passed, but I felt like I studied quite a lot of what was NOT on the test. Very frustrating. So for this test I know to focus more on the nursing implications, side effects, and drug interactions because that is what my Pharm teacher seems to put the most questions on the test about.

Some things I like to do when I study are: talk out loud to myself to explain the topics, re-read the notes I wrote daily, answer all the practice questions in the book/online, make flashcards/ charts where applicable. Good luck I hope both of our test scores start to improve!

I am in my first semester of nursing school and I failed my first test. Minimum is a 75% and I scored a 72%. Not too far off, but still not passing. Luckily, I know what to expect the next time around and I am still passing the class with all of the hw assignments we are given. Hang in there, things will get better. I do suggest you meet with your professor and see what you got wrong and determine why the answer that you picked was not the correct one.
