Just failed Nclex-RN - Hints on Studying

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I just failed my first Nclex-RN and off course I'm dissapointed since I tought I was well prepared for it. As soon as I walked inside of that exam room I realized that my anxiety level was going to interfere with my concentration abilities. For those who just passed, Congratulations! maybe you can share some ideas on how did you preper yourself for the exam, and what techniques did you use to keep your level of anxiety to a minimum? I appreciate your input, thanks.

runnerbe thanks for your support I am now going to use Saunders, I was using Kaplan and hopefully I can use Suzanne plan. I have IM her and I am going to start on step 1 tomorrow.

Hi All,

I am also in a similar situation. I have taken the NCLEX-RN twice and failed, both times with Kaplan. I am now doing Suzanne's plan using Only Saunder's. I have taken the NCLEX-PN test and passed this January, so at least I am working and gaining some experience. However, I just can't wait to pass and be an RN.

I would just say to stay positive, definitely pray, and when taking the test, if you feel like you can't concentrate just stop and take a few deep breaths. That will help to bring the oxygen back to the brain, and to help you relax a bit. I wish you all the best and stay positive. You will be an RN.

hello. try feuer also especially the audio cd. it works you know. before you sleep try to listen to it until you fall asleep. another is NSNA book. its kinda boring to read but you will learn a lot from that book.by the way, just try to answer 200 questions per day. imagine if you will try it you answered 1400 questions per week and thats a lot. :-) your critical thinking will be enhance and you will not be nervous to take the exam. if you feel anxiety during the exam. try to have a break.

hope everybody pass the exam then

I Think in your situation w/ anxiety attack it will help you to relieve this problem by practicing your Question's and Answer's in the computer if you have one. TO subside your anxiety when you take your NCLEX. TRY to enroll in the websites with the NCSBN CLASS. Its a good tools for studying to focus, concentrate and practice. b'coz NCSBN is like NCLEX types of question.

( Parang masanay ka) so, you can use to it. B'coz when you use the computer you feel like your taken your actual nclex. and you feel comfortable

when you taken your next test. GOOD LUCK.........icon7.gif

IM supposed to use SUZANNE'S PLAN but i found out that i dont have enought time to use her program b'coz you have to finish her first tip w/c is Saunder comprehensive book. I just finished the 1st part of it a few days ago (friday june 8). Of course, i sent PM to let her know. That day i got my ATT also. and i called NCSBN to book/schedule my NCLEX RN ON JULY 23 i was assuming i have 6weeks if she will sent all the information right away. Right after i scheduled my test i sent PM to suzanne and found out that she can only send her second part of the program EVERY 2WEEKS w/c is june 15. Her second program needs to be 6weeks to finish it.

Now, im very disappointedicon9.gificon8.gif b'coz i was excited and curious what's all about.and i heard alot of good things about her program but i guess i dont have choices but to use my own strategies. I cann't wait that long. Im ready for another try. Wish me luck and please.... include me in your prayer.

How I prepared was by attending the HURST REVIEW. There are live reviews held all across the country and if there isn't one near you, you can attend an online review. I cannot tell you how helpful this seminar was. The only catch is that it costrs $350.00, but it has a 98% pass rate and if you do not pass they refund your money. I would recommend this class to anyone and if I had known about it prior to graduation I would have taken it twice (it was that good!) I also bought the NCLEX 3500 and I thought that it was extremely helpful because it got you in the mode to take the questions on the computer. I wish you the best of luck!

Hi Everyone-

I am a new grad and will be taking my test sometime next month. I love reading all of your comments. You are all so supportive of each other and thats great. I was not the best test taker in school so needless to say I am very nervous about the nclex. I have mosby, saunders, and this NSNA book that my friend said helped her. Oh.. I also have flash cards. MY problem is what do start with. Do I review the systems and diseases or just start answering ?'s. What is Suzanne's Plan? I hear the test is lots of prioritizing (who do you see first) is that true? Sorry about all the questions. Very excited about this website!!!

to mdavis2278: how about try to finish one book. its kinda tiring but atleast in the end you did finish one book. after finishing one topic try to practice yourself to answer question with minimum of 50-100 questions regarding to the topic youve read for that day. for that, you will be able to learn something then in the end of the day. i just hope it will work for you. it is becoz this is what ive done before taking the nclex exam. i hope it can help you then....

another thing is just focus in one book only so that you will not be confused while you read book. the other books can be your reference then in case you may not be able to understand the topic you are reading at.....

hope this can help then

Hi, I just wanted to give you a lil information and I hope it helps. I took the NCLEX today and I am also a terrible test taker. Luckily, I made it through nursing school. I understand concepts, etc. but the NCLEX was something else to me. A majority of the questions were what would the nurse do initially, who would you see first, who would you discharge, and there were a few other random things. Basically to be honest the test was completely random. I am really worried that I didnt pass although I felt prepared and confident. I have had friends that had 75 questions, 124 questions, 83 questions and 265 questions and passed and that is the only thing giving me hope. While there definitely were a few knowledge questions where if you did not know the manifestations of a disease, you were not going to get it right. But, I think it is completely unrealistic to truly study everything in the Saunders book. I would definitely look over areas of weakness, for example neuro disorders so you will be comfortable if faced with a question. If I find out on Wed that I have to retake it, I dont know where I would begin to study all over. I did a lot of practice questions and I will probably try and double the amount this time because that helps me the most over reading. If I can offer any other advice, it would be to find a way that you can relax. I thought I was going to be fine but as soon as I sat down my nerves got a hold of me. As soon as I began getting hard questions I completely lost my train of thought. And I really believe that hurt me. Take a break, walk around, realize that you are putting everything you can into it and you will pass! :) Good luck. I hope I have helped a little anyway.

IF YOUR TAKEN ON JULY AND WANT TO USE SUZANNE'S PLAN and you're almost done w/ the first tip. Then you dont have time to use her plan. I JUST FINISH THE 1ST TIP 2DAYS AGO. I SENT PM TO SUZANNE AND LET HER KNOW THAT IM SCHEDULE TO TAKE ON JULY 23 AND SHE TOLD ME, THE NEXT TIP /SECOND PROGRAM WILL BE SEND ON JUNE 15/EVERY 2WEEKS AND SHE WILL SENT IT TO YOU IF YOU HAVE 6WEEKS. B'COZ THAT'S THE REQUIREMENT.

Ok I'm still new to this so who is Suzanne? I see that her name comes up alot. Thank you all for your your advise. I will stick to finishing one book and from what I'm reading it looks like Saunders will be the first one I will study from. Do any of you use the CD (Saunders) questions or just from the book? How many of you took a class? Did you really think it helped? I love this site!!!!!!!
