  1. Congratulations on getting a job! There are some that don't even consider working in an SNF as their 1st job as a nurse. But yeah, you will be FINE. Take it from me. I've worked in SNF for 2 years+ and honestly, I didn't like it at first. Because working with old folks really wasn't my thing. But I came to the point of liking it somehow. It's really a matter of knowing your residents and having a routine and squeezing in both med. pass and treatments (if your facility has a wound nurse, you are lucky!) in 8 hrs. Oh i forgot charting! That's a toughie! Unlike acute, you'll have different patients in a matter of days. Bottomline is you have a job as a new grad and be proud of it. Looking at the posts before me, hmmmm, i didn't realized the number of patients u mentioned. Sorry but I guess you have to look into the caseload and think it through. I had 33 pts from my last job. I was ok but I think more than that will be a disaster. Hmmm, why don't you look for other LTCs and look onto their census/caseloads before saying "YES!" to the HR peeps. Sorry about that again.
  2. it became worse than i expected it to be. i know being a nurse is a hectic job and all but i didn't expect that, at times, it would drain you out, completely! but i think that's how it is. we're paid to get intoxicated!
  3. i think you can purchase the online review or the dvd since it can be purchased by anyone, anywhere in the world. that's what i think since we're using the internet anyways.
  4. wow! i wish my pay was like that. i just a raise of $2 in my 2 years of working there and thanks to my union that i had that raise.
  5. just email me coz i can't do pm's. here's my email: [email protected]:)
  6. i've worked f/t in LTC for 2 years, and in my opinion, working with old folks is simply just getting used to it. i, myself, didn't expect that i would love the hang of working with elders and their world. yes, they may be hard to deal with, but not all patients are alike. and yes, all the mentioned stuffs about LTC are true. what i hate the most is too much workload...33 pts on my wing alone. pay, too, is low compared to acute. esp im an LPN.
  7. hi! i'm a HI resident...Welcome to HAWAII. :) btw, are u a new grad? you may consider going thru agency for now or LTC. these are the easiest places to get a job in the industry. i was a full-time LPN in a LTC facility in Kaneohe here in Oahu till i gave birth to my 1st baby. now i'm on-call though. the LTC facility was my 1st nursing job ever since i got my LPN lic. many of my co-workers are new grads and they had a hard time looking for hospital jobs so they did LTC for experience. hope this might help. GOOD LUCK! oh btw, where do u live? i might help u get in my workplace if u consider LTC. :)
  8. thanks alot for the advises. i'm planning to take mines maybe by the end of the year or early next year. i'm just taking my time. a BIG :tku: to everyone!
  9. this is my 5th time to take the nclex. ive tried reviewing with kaplan on my 1st try (i stopped @ 75q's but failed), reviewed with feuer and saunders for my 2nd and 3rd (and still failed), and last year, for my 4th try, i just did questions from saunders (stopped @ 90q's, confident to pass coz i was working as an LPN, thought that i had enough knowledge on what i was testing on but still failed). now im on my 5th try and worried as hell on how to review again and how to build my confidence that i will pass this time. i am debating if i should take kaplan online course, or focus on questions on lippincott, or go cover-to-cover on saunders comprehensive review???? i am soooooo thirsty to get the R.N. title for myself and my family, esp for my baby girl:redbeathe. i graduated 2006 from the Philippines, i have no issues with English as a 2nd language. i know i suck on pharm esp on side effects and etc of meds. i havent done the Suzanne's plan coz i dont know if i can commit to it. i just dont know where and how to start. i heard about raising the passing rate last year, i dont know if it affected my test-taking last year. whew... i have alot of issues! I NEED HELP!
