For me, it tended to get worse over time for about 4 weeks, then leveled off and hurt terribly for months on end.....standing up after being in bed for a while, or even sitting in a chair, was sheer, gritted-teeth agony. It also ached ferociously after running around the floor for a few hours, and woke me up at night throbbing. (What helped most was wearing a brace that kept my foot in a flexed position during the night, forcing the tendon to remain stretched...you might want to check with your MD as to whether this might be an option for you.)
It does eventually get better with rest, anti-inflammatories, and splinting.
Oooh. I feel your pain. I had it a few years ago. My feet were so swollen I had to wear wide tennis shoes without any laces in! I was on steroids for one month and got orthotics. The good news is that I haven't had any trouble since then. The orthotics truly changed my life. I hope you have similar healing!
P.S. I was able to go back to 12 hour shifts after a couple of months1!
Get thyself to a good podiatrist--someone who treats athletes STAT.
Steroid injection, Taping of foot+ ankle, hydrotherapy, stretching exercises with band along with orthotics and New Balance sneakers halped resolve that problem for me. Still do foot exercises and aqua therapy to keep it in check.
Hope your feeling better soon...

Hello Allnurses comrades,
Today, my doctor told me I have Plantar Fasciitis (heel-spur syndrome).
What a bummer!
I've been experiencing a lot of pain in the bottoms of my feet for about a month now, but it's getting worse as time goes by. Thought I'd better have it checked out, and low and behold....I have "sick feet".
My switching to part time status...8 hour shifts on nights...couldn't be more timely as the doctor thinks 12's is way too much for me to continue working.
Had to go to the Orthotic Lab within the hospital today for fitting of some special cushions for my shoes in hopes it will relieve the pressure and the pain on the bottom of my feet, especially my heels. If not, surgery may have to be done. I hope not.
We need our feet to be healthy, so I am going to do whatever my doc tells me to do to keep them healthy. Please send up prayers...positive energy...healthy thoughts...whatever your belief happens to be...for me. Much thanks!
