Hello Allnurses comrades,

Today, my doctor told me I have Plantar Fasciitis (heel-spur syndrome). :crying2: What a bummer!

I've been experiencing a lot of pain in the bottoms of my feet for about a month now, but it's getting worse as time goes by. Thought I'd better have it checked out, and low and behold....I have "sick feet". :scrying:

My switching to part time status...8 hour shifts on nights...couldn't be more timely as the doctor thinks 12's is way too much for me to continue working.

Had to go to the Orthotic Lab within the hospital today for fitting of some special cushions for my shoes in hopes it will relieve the pressure and the pain on the bottom of my feet, especially my heels. If not, surgery may have to be done. I hope not. :o

We need our feet to be healthy, so I am going to do whatever my doc tells me to do to keep them healthy. Please send up prayers...positive energy...healthy thoughts...whatever your belief happens to be...for me. Much thanks! :sniff:

I also had that syndrome and was fitted with shoes and inserts. I took anti-inflammatory meds and didn't have to have surgery. I think surgery would be the last choice. Once I got shoes that weren't too tight and the inserts my feet were great. I don't have to wear them anymore and can wear any type shoe I want to.

I also got out of the hospital and off the 12 hour shifts. Email me and we'll talk.

I have had this condition for 2 years and it has remained due to

being on feet for 8 hours compounded with being overweight.

I massage my feet with my electric massager and then put my feet on ice pack(frozen pack of peas) greatly decreases the pain.

Orthotics really make a big difference in foot comfort. God bless

and wish for relief of your pain

I'll check out that website too. :)

I saw my doctor today. Told me to continue icing several times a day by rolling a cold "coke or water botte" under my right foot (she recommends that to her patients and she also does it as she too has PF). She also told me to continue the exercise, and to avoid long walks and prolonged standing. She told me if I missed taking long walks, to start doing them on a treadmill...less impact on the feet that way since the treadmill gives some bounce and cushioning that hard pavements do not offer. Also, she wrote a note for me to not do standing activities greater than eight hours. Well, I work 12 hour shifts (by choice), but now I guess I'm going to have to cut the shift by four hours.

I wanted an X-ray of my right foot to see if there were chips of bone spurs or something else in my foot because the right side of my heel and arch area swelled up like a spider bite, but no bite marks were present. The doctor told me an X-ray would not show bone spurs. So it's cut my working hours to eight, continue what I'm doing with the exercises, icing the feet, walk on a treadmill, and resting the foot as much as possible. If no improvement, then the doc will consider a consult for me to see a podiatrist. But, like most docs, the conservative approach is always the first line of treatment before doing more drastic measures like surgery, etc. I agree with that thinking myself.

All of the information I've gained from everyone of you who shared of your own PF pain has been most helpful to me. I can't thank you all enough for the advise, the encouragement, sharing your own success or lack of success with PF, etc. I follow up with my doc in four weeks. Hopefully, by then I'll be able to tell her my foot is healed! Nothing worse than having to walk on painful feet. The pain is a burning pain...level 8 to 10 on a scale of 1 to 10. Since I am allergic to aspirin and nsaids, no anti-inflammatory meds for this gal. :nono: Can we say........anaphylactic shock!

Guess I'll have to break down and purchase some Birkenstock shoes. Aging is hell ya know. :sniff:

I too had a problem and was wearing Plogs. A coincidence? Paid 65 bucks for the darn things and then couldn't wear them!

funny, both my foot films show my "talons"! A five year old could pick out my spurs on my films...what doctor told you that you can't see spurs on a foot film? I took my films with my to my ortho who treats my PF...
