Last night was a party like no other still have little sleep since it was packed downtown is the new Hollywood for out of towners it’s complicated not like Frisco however similar just stay past alameda and you will be fine don’t go anywhere near skid Rowe that’s not safe. Tents on every corner and one corner could be crack one could be heroin one meth someone says weed is more expensive then meth here it’s a bad drug called spice it’s a hallucination drug synthetic weed they buy for like 50 cent a joint makes one hell trippy watch Sad to see but there are more people who say it’s never too late u know so yes pride is in full effect and the raves were a drag  older now so it’s better things to do than rave all night when people come to town they don’t come to sleep though they come to party so it was eventful.

Philly's 50th Pride festival held on June 4th at the National Constitution Center and Independence Mall.  One of my first home care patients was an organizer of the first march --learned much from him re LGBTQ issues.

Pride marches fill Philadelphia

Quote

After a year of uncertainty as a new group of activists tried to build a more inclusive event, last Sunday's PHL Pride March was a huge success, with thousands participating in the celebration of LGBTQ community. Yesterday another group came together for the 10th annual Disability Pride Parade, hailed by attendees as a welcome chance to connect in person

“Getting together and having fun is a way of gaining power,” said one organizer.

Dozens of rainbow-clad people marched, rode, and rolled through Philadelphia on Saturday, waving signs beneath a light drizzle as they took part in Disability PA’s 10th annual Disability Pride Parade.

Anomie Fatale, this year’s Ms. Wheelchair Pennsylvania, said she’s attended the pride event for years, and even performed there as a musician. She was thrilled to be back in person, since the last couple years have been virtual.

“It feels like the world’s coming back … finally seeing everybody out here together for the first time since 2019. It’s a beautiful thing,” Fatale said. “I know we’re still in the pandemic right now. But we’re finding ways to pull through, and that really means a lot because we are really stronger when we’re together....

The march culminated with a festival at Thomas Paine Plaza, next to the Municipal Services Building and City Hall. Various tents and stands offered kids’ activities, a COVID vaccine clinic, and health and community-building resources.

Here in little Saint Petersburg, Florida somehow pre-covid we have the largest Pride celebration in FL.  Only Atlanta has a bigger pride in the SE and New Orleans seems to have one similar in size.  It's estimated that 250,000 people attend.

Anyway, I'm working this coming weekend when it's held and will miss it, but am looking forward to seeing pictures of the events.  People complain that it's gotten a bit commercial with all the corporate sponsors and floats, but it's good to see supportive businesses.

One year I marched with my employer throwing out beeds and it was stunning to march by the huge crowds of people screaming and having a good time.   The go go boys and drag queens get all the attention in the press but that's okay.

I love the mainstreaming of Pride here and it seems almost as many in the community of heterosexuals and cisgendered folks are there in support as there are gay people.

It feels good to feel good if even for a day.

With some of the hostility coming from the governors mansion and capitol Pride is an important month to me.  I remember my first pride in Atlanta was a few hundred people.  Then after I moved to North Carolina I attended Pride in Raleigh and my lesbian friend was so afraid of being caught on camera and being on the news that she disguised herself as a man so her family wouldn't find out and disown her or get fired from her job.  I'm happy times have changed.  We can't go backwards.

Waking up and hearing that yet again another Pride event was sabatoage someplace in the Midwest only saw headlines and was so upset didn’t bother to read the entire post just my inner thoughts how it’s these days why people don’t wanna be outed rather have outer space when bigots keep doing insane behavior  told there being or doing something wrong what is it with these kind of people these are those same people who spit on me as a kid for having white mother black father literally had to hide in trees because racist bigots would try to shoot be be guns at me I’m still building confidence from the humiliation and shame sure life makes us strong but something like hate shouldn’t have to be any experience anyone living should feel
