hi guys, i will be testing early aug 14. i finished kaplan-- very good--highly recommend it. i will be taking it for the third time:cry: i didn't do kaplan the 1st time, but i did it the second time and i was near passing and passing on my categories-- when i got the letter in the mail--that i didn't pass. but i did kaplan again now --for my 3rd try and i did pretty good--but some questions i knew because i have seen them before but 70% i didn't remember. i scored 60-70-- which are high scores. i started saunders comp review 4 edition. i think it's really cheezy--nothing like the nclex. i do agree with many people that nothing comes close to the nclex like kaplan. is there any other program or book that you guys could recommend that i study. i am still continuing with the saunders--since i bought already, it is nothing like the nclex. any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

well, thursday is "d-day" for me. bright and early thursday a.m. i head into the exam room. i'm totally scared!

i've been practicing nclex questions for the past two months. i started with saunders, and did pretty good. then i did the drexel u questions and did okay. now i'm doing kaplan, and it seems alot tougher. plus, i'm finding that some of the questions from these sites contradict each other! so that makes it frustrating to get a question wrong, when on another site it would have been correct.

i don't know if i'm in "system overload" or what....but it seems like my brain is mush and i'm not sure of myself anymore. it's scary that i'm at this point two days before the exam.

it's just sad that my whole nursing career is pinned on doing well on 75-265 questions....and then afterward, i'll never have to take an exam again! and it really comes down to the luck of the draw when you sit down at that computer screen!

oh well...i'll ask for you thoughts and prayers, and i'll check back in to let you know how it went.

i've enjoyed reading the posts on this site. it's given me some really good tips to focus upon. i hope it helps!

Congrats, Californianursemanage, as for those who are getting ready to take the test to me it seemed as though nothing really compared to the NCLEX itself, however every little bit of information that you learn can only make you that much more prepared. I really felt like the NCLEX was more about your gut than anything else. Just keep the prayers going and trust in yourself.

I saw someone posted on this site that they thought the Pearson Exam Cram was the best with a "hint" next to it. I bought it immediately since Pearson is the name associated with the nlcex. Some questions are in the repetitive zone but there are new angles to some of these.

I did the entire Mosby's which helped me with Hesi, and did the entire Hesi book and cd.

I am going through the Saunders Q&A just because I like the division of nclex test areas in this book. For example, Mosby's divides their content up by clinical content, which I liked for Hesi, and I like the meds being at the end of each section in Mosby's. Saunders, however, allows you to pull questions based on the feedback you get from Hesi - like if it's more physiological content or safety, etc.

I did the entire Pearson's book and I thought it was good actually. I will review that before the nclex.

I did the Lippincott's new format questions, both editions, the small books. I started on the larger Lippincott.

I did some Lippincott in the Q&A book.

I did the test in the Kaplan OTC book, not the program, on the cd and the book - I laughed at the one for Guillian Barre - like I'd pick that syndrome out of all syndromes based on the question they posted. NOT!

Anyway, I don't know what else to do.

Our Meds Pub review was part of what we paid for within our college program and the woman who did the review writes questions for the boards and told us which areas to focus on. I thought she was good - seemed to know everything! The meds part helped. I'm reviewing that too. I taped the last day so I'm listening to endocrine and peds again.

In addition, through nursing school, I used whatever books the teachers had on their desks that they may have pulled test questions from - so I have NSNA, Davis, you name it, that I worked on throughout the last couple years as I went.

If I fail this blessed test, it won't be because I didn't try. You know? The meds pub lady said the leading contenders for study books were Mosby's and Saunders because people felt like the rationales made sense to them. The test questions won't ever be the same, but I assume it's whether you getting that "nuance" to the question.

When I took Hesi, there were some that were easy but some (a lot) that I though "no clue - educated guess" and I scored well on it.

I don't know what else to do.

Studymom - it sounds to me like you are prepared. I think you will do fine. When is you test?? Good luck!:D

It's supposed to be August 7th. I gave myself time because I have to go to Chicago this weekend for a support group meeting for my 12 (almost 13 year old) daughter who was born with Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. (I don't expect you to be familiar with this syndrome - very complex...but she's very educated and has no problem with herself.) Each year this group meets in one spot in the country and since it's 5 hours away, she wanted to go really badly. I have to make this a priority - plus her endocrinologist is there every year and it's great free education. I have the meds pub review on tape for the last tape on my pda that I'm going to listen to in the car and I just recited the meds on there too. So - real life is there between the nursing school and the nclex tests, right? I can't stop living or raising my kids.

However, I am thinking of checking for a cancellation date end of next week because I'm sick of studying and I can't sleep. The hospital where I have a job waiting knows I won't start work until fall because my kids start school late August and I can't be gone everyday in orientation - must be home with them.

I did meds pub review this morning, and am continuing the comprehensive tests in Lippincott. So far, I'm doing okay. The questions seem the same - except for the SATA. Getting 3 out of 4 of the checks isn't good enough! Saunders Q&A have very obvious answers in my opinion. I still liked Mosby's as my base. I keep thinking I should redo that book or skim it along with Pearson's and that 250 question Lippincott book someone insisted on.

Congratulations. Your hard work paid off.
