July 2010 nclex rn study group

Published

Hi everyone,

I have the feeling that those of us who are going to take our nclex in July should start to share our

ideas and views and at the same time encourage each other in any way we can.I

strongly believe that the earlier the better, and together we can make it in Jesus NAME.

STUDY,STUDY,STUDY. PRAY,PRAY,PRAY. We will be successful. For me I have been

changing my date because I am doing Kaplan online, LA Charity,Exam cram and

using Saunders as my ref. book. It's your turn to share your ideas. Thanks and

Welcome to this study group.

I borrowed my Kaplan 2010-2011 strategy book from the library and took all the tests in it. I took the NCLEX yesterday. 75 questions and the good pop up. I almost freaked in the middle of my test. I felt like I can't do this. Prayed a lot. Someone else posted that you shouldn't try figuring out whether questions are the passing questions or not. I agree. I started out thinking that if I got an easy question that I wasn't doing well. I felt like I guessed a lot. I took my time on questions, but it was hard to push that "next" button. Sometimes you gotta just go on. I still feel uneasy about the PVT. I hope it is right.

I felt slightly disadvantaged because I had nursing school 25 yrs ago, let my license expire to raise my kids. I took a refresher course for med-surg, ncbsn's review for 8 wks, saunders, lacharity (which the case studies really make you think), ed4nurses.com (youtube has some of his free video segments) and lots of questions. I found a neat site to practice drugs. I wish I had found it earlier. Under each chapter on the left hand side a NCLEX review, 10 questions on drugs in that chapter. If you submit it, it gives you your score. Rationale is weak. It only gives you rationale if you get it wrong. The site is:

Unfortunately, it is the weekend and I am sure no one works at my state board of nursing. Does anyone know how soon they post it on the BON?

I take NCLEX on Monday for the 1st and prayfully the last time. And I am so nervous. Uggggggggggh. I just want to pass.

Praying for you, Precious! Try to treat it like a regular test like the practice ones. You can answer a bunch of questions. I know I was sooo nervous, too. I figure if I fail at least I have seen the types of questions and go from there.:saint:

Well I got 75 ques and the good pop-up. Finished in like 35 minutes. I thought me going fast would=me failing but I guess not. Totally didn't feel like staring at the questions forever. And yes I also felt like I failed after the test.

I PASSED. YAY!

cOuRtNeYxo, I can't respond to your private message. I don't have enough posts, so I will answer here and hope you see it. I'm glad you are jumping back in to studying. You sound upbeat and that is great. You are not a failure.

I liked the Kaplan strategy 2010-2011 book. I read the chapters on the strategies and took all the tests for each chapter. After the strategy chapters, I didn't think the chapters were of much help except for the tests at the end. I took the 180 question test and timed myself. It judges whether you know enough content or not. You need to get a 70% or above. Have you tried taking any pretests to see where your weaknesses are? I took the Saunders one and took NCSBN review's pretest and used their review for 8 wks. LaCharity's book I almost finished. I think it is excellent. The case studies really make you think. I was getting 60+ %. Ed4nurses.com has some excellent material. They have some free videos on YOuTube that are great like ABG's, heart sounds etc. He explains things so much easier to understand. I also use the internet to look up things I don't understand. I use google images as well. I learn visually so I would look up diseases like Steven-Johnson's syndrome and it helps me to visualize what it is. One of the things I took from Kaplan is rewording the question. Make sure you know what it is asking. Hope this helps! You can do this!

Took NCLEX-RN today @ 8:00am..........I don't know how I feel about the exam. It wasn't hard but it wasn't easy. I would say that it was fair. I don't know if this is a good sign or a bad sign........I just feel like from everyone's post here that it should have been extremely HARD but it was not....it was average. And I keep thinking well maybe I did BAD if my test was not extremely, extremely difficult. My test shut down at 75 questions and it took me about an hour and half. I was so hoping that I would get more questions because I feel like those 75 questions were not enough to prove my competency. I had at least 10+ SATA, a few infection control questions, a few of priority questions, a ton of medication questions, 1 calculation questions. I may try the PVT but I will wait a few hours because I'm nervous......I don't want to see the CC page. I will update later when I get the guts to try the PVT.

I know what you mean about being too nervous to do the PVT. I started it and was physically shaking, but finally decided to push through. Glad I did with the good pop up.

Completely awesome! I didn't know it was physically possible to do that many questions that quick. You must be a real whiz or I am very slow. It took me almost 2 hrs to do 75 questions. It was hard to press that "NEXT" button. LOL

Congrats to you!!:)

OMGosh. I just tried the PVT and I got the "good pop-up". It this thing for real. I can't believe it. Lord Jesus. How did I get the good pop up.......I don't understand it. I'm in shock but not to much. I'm going to wait on my official results before I say anything to my family and friends.
