July 2010 nclex rn study group

Published

Hi everyone,

I have the feeling that those of us who are going to take our nclex in July should start to share our

ideas and views and at the same time encourage each other in any way we can.I

strongly believe that the earlier the better, and together we can make it in Jesus NAME.

STUDY,STUDY,STUDY. PRAY,PRAY,PRAY. We will be successful. For me I have been

changing my date because I am doing Kaplan online, LA Charity,Exam cram and

using Saunders as my ref. book. It's your turn to share your ideas. Thanks and

Welcome to this study group.

Hey all, I have finally finished reading all the posts from the before and after nclex from this thread.

can you guys just give the people who have yet to take the test what the scores you guys were getting from saunders were before nclex. i know its around 60-70%; its just reassuring when it comes from those who recently passed. i am taking mine early august and am mostly reviewing w/ Saunders. Congrats to all!! and i really do appreciate this forum!

o, i forgot to mention, what is this "PVT" thing i keep reading about?

"I may try the PVT but I will wait a few hours because I'm nervous......I don't want to see the CC page. I will update later when I get the guts to try the PVT."

The PearsonVue trick (PVT) is done after taking the NCLEX. There is a thread explaining how to do it etc. :)

I passed!! I'm an RN! Finally, Michigan posted my active license! I have been waiting since July 16 with only the good pop up. It has been 25 years since I worked. Praise God! Very excited about where He will lead me now!

@ adengel

Congrats to you!:yeah: thank you also for PVT tip. Can I ask you, what were your average scores while you were taking practice tests before the nclex?

My percentages varied:

LaCharity 60-70% -case studies were a lot harder. I got mostly 60's %. I even bombed one and got a 40%

Kaplan's strategy book - 70% on the 180 question content test. I took a practice test with them and got a 78% but had seen many of the same questions on their website.

NCSBN review - pretest 69% then practice quizzes and tests 65-75%

I did find out that the passing level questions are the analysis/application questions not the comprehension or recall type (according to Kaplan).

Hope this helps.

@ adengel -hey thank you so much for the reply. i am feeling a lot more confident since i am scoring around the same as you. i dont think i have enough time to do ncsbn since i wanna take NCLEX asap. (i havent received ATT yet). do you think i should still get ncsbn? or should i just focus on what i have left- lacharity, 4k, and saunders?

It is hard to say. I took 8 wks reviewing with NCSBN. You can do 3wks which includes the questions. They have pharm, priority, delegation, alternate format, and a bunch of random quizzes. There is also a pretest and a test for each of the 8 sections. I hate to tell you one way or the other. I really liked Lacharity and I've heard others talk well of Saunders. You really need to 100 questions a day. Kaplan has a free practice test you can sign up to do at their center and they will grade it and tell you approx. where you fall as to the passing standard. If you can't do that, I recommend going to their site and you can register for a free 20 question quiz. There are a lot of questions on their site but most of them are used in the free practice test. Kaplan's book NCLEX Strategies 2010-2011 I borrowed from the library and took all the tests and read all the strategy chaps. I recommend it as well. Here is another site with a mini NCLEX 10 question quiz on each drug chap. I just took the quizzes. There are 30 or so just on drugs.

Hope this helps! Don't forget about allnurses.com - infection control, "random fact throwing" thread etc.:)
