Greetings Everyone!
I know this is early to make a thread for the Fall 2011 Hopkins Applicants! But still, it is better to start getting ready than waiting at the last minute! I highly suggest everyone start getting your letters of recommendations, and just hide it until you are ready to apply. I will be applying and submitting my application around September 2010 as an early decision applicant for Fall 2011.
I have to finish up Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Developmental Psychology, and one more chemistry class this coming Summer 2010. During the Fall of 2010 and Spring 2011, I will be finishing up just general requirements like history, Microbiology, English Composition, Statistics, some foreign languages, and humanities (elective classes).
I will be applying for the BSN Traditional Program considering I do not have a degree, thus, I am not qualified to apply for the accelerated program. I'm really excited about this.
I will only be applying to UPenn and Johns Hopkins University for my BSN traditional program. If I do not get accepted, I will be attending my current university's school of nursing. I am already in the university's nursing program, but I don't start clinical preceptorship until 2 years from now.
I will graduate May 2013 regardless where I go. Either JHU or UPenn or stay at my current university.
If I will be accepted at either JHU or UPenn, then definitely I will be attending those schools! I love nursing research, and I want to learn more about research and providing quality care to our patients.
We will see how it will go. I have six months until I submit my application to both schools. Remember time is running fast.
Hope everyone are doing well on their pre-requisites! Good luck to all!
Feel free to post around so we can help each other for Fall 2011! I've read the thread for the JHU Fall 2010. I've noticed everyone in that thread got accepted, and some waitlisted! Its a good sign!
Have a wonderful day!

I have been following this thread for some time and decided to share some information. I also applied to the ABSN program. I recently found out that I was waitlisted for ABSN but offered admission to the traditional program. This may be the case for those waiting to hear, admissions told me they will not be done making calls this week so stay optimistic if you have not heard back yet. Good luck to all still waiting for a decision.
Please share information as to why you are disappointed in the school. Any information at all would be helpful as we are all trying to make conscientious decisions. Thanks!
Hello,
I just asked Admissions today about when the MSN decisions would be sent out. They concluded they would be ready with the decisions by the end of March
I don't know if the MSN decision dispersion is different depending if you are a traditional vs. Accelerated BSN, but this is what they told me, a Traditional BSNer.
I would also like to know what Disappointed has to say about Hopkins.
Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear!
Maybe I'm just cynical, maybe I don't want Hopkins to lose it's luster but...
Does anyone else find it odd that Disappointed had horrible yet vague things to say about a program I've heard nothing but good things about, joined the same say he/she posted, doesn't have any other posts, and now won't respond to our requests for more information? Any chance he/she's on the waitlist and wants people to drop out of the running?
Please show me I'm wrong, Disappointed, I think we all really want to know what you think.

2/3rds of statistics are made up 1/3rd of the time
Johns Hopkins obviously is a great school and will provide whoever attends with excellent clinical and classroom experience (with the hospital, great advising, intimate class sizes, etc.)
I've experienced through other forums that current students of some programs are simply angry about the price of the school and this emotion, along with (maybe) one negative experience or one complaint about one facility (whatever it may be), combine to become "disappointment".
Some people apply and attend expensive schools and then feel that it's not worth the price. I think this is a very personal matter. For example, it is not too common for kids in my town to go away for college. I did, and most of my friends in my area can't understand why I spent the money and why it was important to go to such a great undergraduate program.
It is about the experience you want and believe you will have. Johns Hopkins is an excellent school and will put us all on top in the end.
....I am still waiting to hear from admissions
Admission is still working on notifying people of acceptances. I heard about my acceptance to the traditional BSN yesterday ONLY after I received an email about financial aid and called admissions to find out the scoop. They then apologized for not notifying me; apparently I was supposed to have been called on Tuesday. They said they are pretty backed up.
For people still waiting to hear on the BSN and everyone waiting for the MSN - hang in there!
Hey snguy! I see that you are from California too! May I ask how you are preparing for the big move from the West Coast to the East Coast?
Hi Kristine Bean! Nice to meet you! Congrats on your acceptance! Have you been accepted into the accelerated or traditional cohort? I'm very much excited to move! it will be my first time living away from home. Which part of California are you from? heheh but to answer your question, I'm contemplating between a couple of ways to move. I may end up just packing giant luggages with my clothes and pay extra, then buy furniture & things I need at i need at ikea or from other students :) another option that a current student has told me about is this:
If you won't be moving furniture, but need to get your books, clothes, and tchotchkes across country - check out Amtrak Express!
You take your boxes to the station, they load them onto a train, and you pick them up at the other end. And it is CHEAP!!!
Here are the details:
Each individual item must be
If you have a lot of boxes, they palletize them for you. The maximum aggregate allowed weight is 500lb per person, per day.
It takes 7-10 days to go from Sacramento, CA to Baltimore and they will hold it in Baltimore free for 2 days. They charge a fee of $3 per package per day after that.
They do not allow any appliances, art, glass, TVs - basically anything breakable. The person I heard about it from pointed that they do not open boxes - so if you're okay running the risk, you could sneak in some well packed breakables, but it's on you if they don't make it intact.
No appointment is necessary - they have trains every day, so just show up (after you've verified that your local station offers the service). The number is: 1-800-377-6914
They charge by weight, but for the maximum 500lb weight they only charge $275!"
Since I don't think I'll have THAT many things, I may end up just stuffing my luggage. How about you?

ayu531,
I applied for the ABSN option and have not heard a word. Frustrating!
