Hi,
I have applied for and received an invite to interview at JHH on a pediatric unit. I figured since there are previous threads for past years I'd start a new one for 2020 hires/start dates! Lets all keep each other informed and updated through the process.

So some tangible advice I can give (unlike most people who just share abstract and vague advice) is be prepared for behavior questions and not so much clinical scenarios. But of course it helps to know about the common cases on the floor and potential things you'd see (you can discuss your experience with the floors patient population if you have some). They'd be pleased to know you're comfortable and familiar with the pt. pop.
As far as behavior questions, be able to answer: Tell me about yourself, Why JHH (it's good to include the mission and what it means to you), A time you went above and beyond for a pt, A time a pt. was difficult and how you dealt with it, Describe being a part of a team, Advice you've been given, and At least 2 strengths and weaknesses.
And with all behavior questions, end with stating what the value is from that learning experience. So basically the formula is 'Experience' (which answers the question) + 'Value gained' = good answer.
This is pretty much the meat of all new grad interviews so if you know that then you're set. I reheorificed all my answers for pretty much 99% of potential behavior questions and the interview went smoothly.
Other tips are to have good lighting in your room for the video and angle the camera paralleled to your profile, not at an angle lower or higher.
With all that said, best of luck! Look forward to meeting you in MD
I think there are a lot of detailed tips on this forum, if you scroll from the beginning of the forum you will see them. I benefited from those tips and advice so much and it helped guide me from applying to interview, etc and I got offers to all positions I applied to, well except peds and thankfully I really did not want it.

No I agree, this one has been great. It helped me a lot. I was speaking to the general forums that really don't benefit applicants other than stating the obvious

True, the general forum is unhelpful sometimes, infact some of the responses I see to a commenter’s concerns or issues are mind boggling and often on the negative side. The responses there sometimes feel so condescending and may make the commenter feel hopeless. This forum started out so helpful, kind and supportive of each other.

I also have applied to the Bridge program to ICU and the Neonatal ICU! I am graduating July 31st. Wishing you all the best. For those who have accepted, what is your next step? ? Glad to have found this forum!
When did you put your application through?
Thank you and good luck on the interview! ?
@berkenkot I put my application in on 04/18, which was an application posting from 03/30. I heard back from them on 05/12. I completed all my references and they emailed me back on Wednesday last week with my interview date. Thank you so much! I’m so very excited!

There are lots of clinical and behavioral scenarios questions, e.g about an angry or irate patient or their family member, what would you do? If a patient wants you to stay longer in the room but you have other patients to care for what would you do? Etc
@RNBSNMay2020 Thank you! You are so right. I wouldn’t have made it this far if I weren’t a good candidate. I appreciate your advice! I’m a very bubbly and happy go lucky guy, and love working in critical care. What unit are you working in? Thanks for all your help!
@RNBSNMay2020 just a quick question for you. I also applied to multiple positions. Do you have to submit references each time or can the same ones be used for all applications? Thank you!

Your welcome! See you there! What unit will you be starting on?

I can’t speak to Locust Point but I live in Canton and absolutely love it. I would say it’s a very similar vibe to Fells point in terms of safety, walkability, and things to do. I really cared about being close to work (10 min drive), close to bars/restaurants, and being able to feel safe walking to shops and I feel like I got all of those things in Canton. Most of my friends that work at Hopkins either live in Canton or Fells so I think it’s a popular place for new grads. My sister has lived in downtown for 2 years and is planning to move because of she doesn’t feel safe walking around so I wouldn’t recommend it based on her experience. If you want more specific info feel free to message me! ?
