Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to start a thread for the Johns Hopkins Entry into Nursing MSN program for August 2021 applicants. I started my application this week, aiming to get it in well before the November 1st deadline . Anyone else??

I was waitlisted soon after the acceptances were out. I just got a decision update from the school and the email said the fall class is now full and unfortunately I will not be part of the fall class of 2021. Best wishes to my fellow waitlisted applicants out there, I hope some of you got good news.

Thank you for the update.  And I'm sorry for the news... My hopes are pretty low, so I'm thinking about the next steps...  Thank you again for the update and good luck on your future endeavors!

Thank you for the update. I received the same email just now. Best wishes to you and everyone who didn’t get accepted this year.

Hello everyone. I was waitlisted after early applications and emailed the office because I did not receive an email. This is what they said “You remain on the waitlist and we have not pulled anyone from that as of yet.  We did release some of the people on the waitlist but kept a smaller group at that designation.  We are likely looking at another 4-6 weeks before we will know how that will play out.  Please let us know if you have any additional questions.”

Hello,

Is there a facebook page for this cohort ?

I couldn't find one, but if you search it's under "JHUSON MSN Entry Fall 2021"

I was wondering if anyone out there graduated from this program, and what they are doing now after school. Was job finding difficult? Did you run into any problems with not having a BSN? Did you find the program prepared you enough for practice? Thank you in advance!!

Hi Euna,

I graduated in May 2021. I am about to start Nurse Practitioner school at the end of the month. I did not look for a job until the very last minute (because my program strongly discourage students from working and attending school). I found a part-time job that allows me to work 1x a week. It was very easy to find the job, It was a quick click on zip recruiter, then an interview with a recruiter the next day, then  hired a week later... Lot of my colleagues found jobs with no issues.

Thank you for your quick response! Did you have a BSN prior to your MSN? Did you get a nursing job whilst in the program? Thanks!

Hi Euna,

I just graduated from JHSON in May 2021. I interviewed and got an offer before I graduated in March 2021. To answer your questions, finding jobs is not difficult but it depends on the location because the demand and supply for the jobs are different based on the popularity of a city. I think the program defintely prepared me enough for practice with its 2-year curriculum compared to ABSN that is usually just one year.

For me, the cons for the program is 1) location, 2) tuition can be high depending on how much scholarship & financial assistance you get, 3) this program is highly conceived towards those who want to pursue JHSON's DNP/PhD programs since there are courses like EBP that are highly research-based and repetitive (each semester) that can be transferred to those programs.

Overall, if you are more job-oriented, I'd say even an ABSN can get you jobs without issue. If you are more about advanced studies, then MSN might be a good option. (BTW, you only need either a BSN or MSN to become an RN, not both).

No nursing background prior to the Hopkins MSN Entry.... I did not work while in the program. Some of my colleagues worked as nursing externs or CNA (certified nursing assistant)...

Hello! Thank you so much for your response! I am curious, when you say the location is a con, do you mean Baltimore itself or do you mean where JHU is specifically located in the city? Do you have recommendations on where to live within Baltimore? Also, all that you said is very interesting, I am currently trying to decide if I should go into this program or if I should get an ABSN degree instead. It seems like this program has great instructors and gives you great structure but also sounds like the cost is very high.
