Johns Hopkins Entry into Nursing (MSN) Fall 2021

Published

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to start a thread for the Johns Hopkins Entry into Nursing MSN program for August 2021 applicants. I started my application this week, aiming to get it in well before the November 1st deadline . Anyone else??

I mostly agree with magicpandora. I had heard a similar thought from nurses before I decided to join JHU MSN entry...  If money is a factor, like you said, $100k of additional debt to attend JHU, then it may be worthy going to the least expensive route. Especially if you are intending to go back to school later - You could always do a DNP at Hopkins later on? The pros of JHU is the amazing community of students, access to the hospital, and the "nicety of the reputation of the school" that could be helpful if you ever saw yourself wanting to go become a nursing executive or a Professor. --> is that upfront $100k + in additional debt worth it? depends on the individual goals and comfort level. But you can achieve those things (becoming a nurse executive or a Professor) too by hard working and connecting with peers and other amazing communities elsewhere too!

In summary, I think at the end of the day a nursing degree is a nursing degree (sure, you want to choose credentialed, accredited nursing institutions, always!)

Best of luck ?

Thank you SO much for sharing your insights with me too! Professor or exec nurse are not high on my list right now, so I think I will pay it up for now.

I created a FB group for Johns Hopkins Entry MSN Fall 2021 for everyone ?

Hello!

I was recently placed on a waitlist, anyone in the same boat here? If anyone has been accepted off of waitlist, could you share when they announce  that? I’m very anxious...thank you

Yes, I will update if I hear anything also. For those accepted, when is your deposit deadline?

Mine was 1 month from the date of my acceptance letter, and since they did acceptances in small batches over weeks - it will be a range.

Thanks for that info! I think I saw somewhere that we would hear back by mid-April. I was just accepted to another program, so hopefully I'll hear back before then, since that is when my deposit is due.

Sorry if this was already asked, but I was wondering if anyone knows how necessary a car is - any reason not to Uber everywhere? The only thing I can think of is shifts at weird hours.

Thanks!

has anyone that was waitlisted heard anything yet? will we get a rejection email if we aren't selected or will we only hear if we receive an acceptance? I was waitlisted at the end of the first week they started sending out acceptances and I was wondering if anyone on the waitlist heard yet or knew when we were going to hear.

I would bring your car because much of baltimore is HIGHLY unsafe. I work at hopkins now and not only the city's crime levels but the number of crime related injuries (GSW, Assault, robberies, domestic violence, kidnapping etc) that we see are truly disturbing. Even mid day in broad daylight. I personally would not be hopping in an uber after an evening rotation *anywhere* in the radius of campus or the hospital, and public transportation is often equally risky.

Dang, I have no idea Baltimore is THAT dangerous. I found it hilarious that JHU is the only school that included Baltimore map in their welcome package. I began to wonder how many people rejected JHU simply because of the location ?.

Stay safe in Baltimore y'all and knowing that clinical placement can take place in the night/dawn, try to always travel in groups!

hey @drsorders! I was also waitlisted at the end of the 1st week. I just called them this morning (CA time) and the office said that they don't have a specific date, but most likely, waitlisted candidates will hear back in late Spring.

I was waitlisted soon after the acceptances were out. I just got a decision update from the school and the email said the fall class is now full and unfortunately I will not be part of the fall class of 2021. Best wishes to my fellow waitlisted applicants out there, I hope some of you got good news.
