Johns Hopkins Entry into Nursing (MSN) Fall 2021

Published

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to start a thread for the Johns Hopkins Entry into Nursing MSN program for August 2021 applicants. I started my application this week, aiming to get it in well before the November 1st deadline . Anyone else??

Hi guys! So I also want to get my DNP and become a nurse practitioner! Specifically a pediatric acute care NP. Hopkins is obviously not cheap, but one of the things that draws me most to the program is those 16 credits. It might not seem like a lot, but if you attend their DNP program it will save you not only money but also give you a lighter course load! I know there’s discussion that all NPs will require a DNP by 2025. Will it actually happen by then? Who knows, but I also don’t want to risk just getting my Masters as a NP and having to go back to school immediately afterwards. I also personally don’t see the point of getting another bachelors, especially because I’m not sure how many direct BSN-DNP programs there are or how long they may take! Finally, my other deciding factor is my specialty. Most other programs require at least a year of experience in a pediatric unit before being able to even enter a pediatric acute care program. Hopkins is a little bit different. They will admit you to their pediatric primary care doctorate program and then once you gain a year of experience they will change your curriculum to the duel primary and acute care track! To me this is huge because it will allow me to work and make an income without taking a break from school.

I hope this helped you guys see some of the benefits of the program!

No, I was surprised to receive the acceptance letter today! I had thought all acceptance letters went out last week.

Congratulations! ???

Congrats! I think they do two separate rounds of acceptances from what I’ve seen in previous threads- so if you haven’t heard back yet there is still chance you may have gotten in!

As for us on the waitlist, I think it makes our chances pretty slim. Yes a lot of people have decline so far, but they still have a second batch of acceptances!

If anyone does get off the waitlist- please update on here! I emailed the admin office and they said that acceptances on the waitlist are made on a rolling basis and should go on until late July?

Congrats everyone!

Hi everyone, I got accepted and I am also from California. Is there a facebook group for this cohort? Also, I see someone posted that the estimated cost of attendance is around 130k? Is that just tuition or including room and board because I saw the estimated cost of attendance for the previous year was around 68k and updating it to the current cost per unit would put it to be around 75k. Thanks!!

The tuition is about $20k per semester for a total of 5 consecutive semesters.

Thank you! I just went back to look that info up and you're completely right. I don't know how I missed that.

Is anyone considering to continue into the DNP program at Hopkins after the Masters portion? Also for those that received the scholarship, is that a one time award or is that for each year?

The scholarship is distributed evenly towards each semester.

For those of you wanting to continue to the DNP program, how many credits of our entry level MSN will be applicable to that program (if any)? Also, would it be an additional 4 years? My end goal is to become a nurse practitioner, but the Johns Hopkins' name is tempting me to enroll in this program and then later pursue a DNP. But I'm also hesitant because of finances and time.

16 credits can be transferred from MSN Entry into Practice to JHUSON's dnp programs. It can take from 3 to 4 years to complete its DNP program without part-time option.

Is there a facebook group specific to the Fall 2021 MSN cohort? The other one seems to be much larger

I don't think there is... or at least not that I can find. Someone should make one ? ( I would but I'm not 100% sure if I'm going yet so it doesn't feel right haha)
