Johns Hopkins Entry into Nursing (MSN) Fall 2021

Published

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to start a thread for the Johns Hopkins Entry into Nursing MSN program for August 2021 applicants. I started my application this week, aiming to get it in well before the November 1st deadline . Anyone else??

Hi everyone, this is my 1st time posting on this page even though I have been pretty active on other pages. I also applied for the JHU MSN Fall 2021 program on the Jan 1st deadline. Being the naive and chronic procrastinator I am, I only applied to 3 schools (JHU, Columbia, UCLA) and I already heard back from 2 of them. I already secured Columbia acceptance and UCLA waitlist, so I am definitely becoming impatient to hear back from JHU. That being said, because I am from CA, UCLA is definitely my #1 choice considering licensing, cost and CA preference toward in-state grad. I am wondering if anyone else is in the same boat as me?

I'm in a similar position. I already paid my deposit for a program that starts in May and also just got my acceptance to Duke. I can't really be 100% sure where im going until I hear back from JHU. I think it should be within the next 2 weeks.

I got accepted to Duke too!  I'm going with Duke (they offer needs-based scholarships, and JHU doesn't), and I officially declined my seat to JHU.  So that's one more seat available for those of you still waiting to hear!  Good luck.  I hope you get your first choice.

@babyalph2021 Congrats on getting accepted to Columbia and waitlisted at UCLA! Could you let me know your stats? volunteer/work experience? 1st time applying? essay/resume tips?

@325_FutureRN Thank you! My stats is not that impressive because I have minimal to zero healthcare experience. This is my 1st time applying as well.
I started at community college and transferred to UC Berkeley as a junior. Back in community college, I was a club president and work part-time as a lab tech. Then in UC Berkeley, I dedicated my entire free time for research and ended up doing undergrad thesis. Since then I have been working as a research associate (close to 3 years now) and has been published once in a journal. My LORs are from my undergrad thesis prof, my current MD supervisor, and another MD supervisor. I am pretty sure my LORs was my saving grace LOL.
Also academically, my GPA had been very stable 3.8-3.9 even tho I took almost all of my prereq in community college.

To be honest, I hate writing so I wrote most of my statement 1-2 days before the application deadline (DON’T DO THIS). I am pretty clear with what I want to do and show how my background can help with achieving my goal. I am interested to become a public health nurse, so I explained how my research background can aid into that. But my one tips for writing any statement is this: WRITE A GOOD STORY. Just imagine you are trying to convince someone why you want to do nursing NOT why you deserve to become a nurse (see the difference?). No BS like I want to save the world, I want to help people (too general), etc.

Nowadays, school like to see diversity so I think the fact that I am an international student from Indonesia also help. I am also a first-gen college student and trilingual.

Remember that admission process is VERY HOLISTIC. So don’t worry about other people stats, as long as you have a story to sell you can do it!

OMG congratulations on getting into Duke and making your decision! I also got into Duke but am still waiting on scholarship information. It's a bittersweet feeling. I'm grateful to have gotten in, but I'm honestly SO anxious about the tuition & fees. Even with a need-based scholarship, it would still be literally TONS of money.

Are you me? I'm actually in the EXACT SAME situation. Accepted at Duke but can't make a decision until we hear back from JHU. I hope we'll get decisions from them within the next two weeks! ?  ❤️

If anyone has been brave enough to follow up with the admissions office, please let us know! I believe they also have an online chat scheduled for sometime this month (possibly next week?), so maybe we can hop on that. ?

I contacted admissions about a timeline and they said we should hear back in the next week or 2!

I know right! I have a deposit due on the 12th and I have a suspension I will be putting it down without hearing back from Hopkins yet.

Hm, I wonder if you could let JHU know about your situation and maybe they will accommodate for you....as in let you know sooner.

They have daily "Chat and Chew" at noon Eastern time.  The links are on their website somewhere.  Just Google it.  Don't hesitate to call admissions.  They are so helpful.
