Joe Manchin is a Trojan Horse!

Published

I believe that the Democrats need to do anything and everything possible to get rid of Joe Manchin from their ranks!

I believe he's a sleeper agent planted by the republicans! He's not a team player nor does he represent the Dems philosophy or ideals and much worse, he does not represent his constituents needs! He is power mad and will cost the Dems the mid terms and the next election if he's not removed!

Rhoda was a typo...phone arrogance...in *this* time. In this time we have a political party that almost insists that their political leadership claim christian beliefs...presumably for the "values" associated with the religion. The American religious right clearly killed the notion that Christians were somehow less corrupt than other political leaders.  It's a charade.

Now I understand. You seriously had me going there. Thought I had missed some bit of political news. ??

Just wondering how do people feel about Joe Manchin now?

He's basically the responsible person who sided with the republicans against comprehensive background checks!

I mean logically, his constituents voted for the Democrats which he supposedly represents, therefore his constituents want Dems ideals but, Manchin continues to be more republican than the republican themselves!

I would bet serious money that Manchin is up to his eyeballs in pork from the republicans and a good oppo research would show that. I repeat, I think this guy should be removed from all committees and told that the Dems will not fund his reelection. Expel him if possible or ostracize him. Get Steve Schmidt on his case.

Considering that the governor, the other senator, and all 3 representatives are Republican my thoughts are that his constituents voted for him, based on what he campaigned on, and not the fact that he was a Democrat.

Surely, they understand how the American government and Democracy works especially in Senate? You can promise the world but unless it's in line with your party’s agenda, who's going to vote with you? Which is why there are different partys.

Unfortunately not voting the way we want him to doesn't qualify for us removing him from office.   The voters have to vote him out.

I do think he is representing his state when he wasn't for the voting bill and now gun control.  It is West Virginia after all.

You can't remove him from office but his duties can be reduced and committees limited. He was the only Democrat after Sandy Hook that completely derailed regulations. He's always been a very manipulative politician and only pretends to be center. Unless he's placed in check, no Democratic reforms are going to happen.

If you are saying West Virginia is backwards, then it should be easy for him to convince them. If the John Lewis bill isn't passed, it's curtains for Democrats in the future.

No, I'm saying West Virginia is generally pretty conservative.  Trump easily won there.  He gets pressure from home to vote against progressives.  Plus he's a centrist and not progressive anyway.    So going back to the original post that he doesn't represent his constituents doesn't quite ring true.

But yeah, if progressives are in charge an want to strip him of his duties then have at it.  Republicans would love for Democrats to alienate him and swing create a 51-49 situation.

Want him to toe the line because as it is, it's actually 51-49 now. We are in unusual times. I don't know if you can remember the last four years but Trump created a climate like no other. Even in Nixon's or Cheney's years, you at least felt they were professional politicians and understand the ramifications. They had serious people working for them not their son in law or daughter or son's girlfriends etc. That was third world ***! He was alienating European countries, bellyin up with N Korea and Saudi Arabia, making overtures to Putin and Bolsanaro and using up all the hairspray and orange paint in the world AND still those morons were supporting him.

This guy is insane and still owns the GOP! We need to break them NOW!

There's a time and place for everything and Manchin is picking the wrong time. Do you really think any educated person will forget or forgive Comey or Mueller? Have we forgotten Atwater or Cheney or McCarthy?

Oh, for heaven’s sake, cool your jets. Creating yet another circular firing squad isn’t going to accomplish anything positive. Besides, as chare and tweety both pointed out, West Virginia voters are conservative and likely voted for Manchin because he actually represents their views - which is HIS JOB!

Conservative voters have the same right to representation as progressives. Stripping Manchin of the ability to do his job essentially disenfranchises those voters. How is that different, morally, from the neocons’ attempts to suppress voters and void the 2020 election?

The tactics you propose are pretty much the same as those used by the far right to crush their opposition and take over the Republican party ... which is how we wound up with Trump to begin with. The last thing we need is an instant replay, just with a lefty on the throne instead. I’m afraid I have to decline.

Exactly! The tactics they used worked and I am all for not reinventing the wheel!

Until HR1 is passed I don't care what tactics are used! I am into winning and keeping the Dems in power! Because, as long as we have people like Biden, Schumer, Pelosi, Amy Klobuchar etc I know we will have restraints on how we conduct ourselves.

It's this weakness of Dems that allows Supreme Court seats to be stolen and Mitch McConnell to delay bills and allow Republicans to produce a Trump.

When you are in power, then rule. If HR1 does not pass, voter suppression and gerrymandering will ensure that republicans will be back with someone far worse than Trump!

IOW - the ends justify the means? Is it your position that antidemocratic tactics are OK for progressives because we’re too virtuous to abuse our power? The opposite of weakness is not necessarily brute force. Stop letting the thugs define the terms of the fight.

It's my position that Obama failed miserably attempting to reach across the aisle, that if Mueller had shelved his 'ethics' maybe a hundred thousand plus lives would have been saved and numerous other mistakes wouldn't have happened like trillions of dollars to resolve those mistakes.

To make an omelette, you have to break eggs. It always amazes me when people lose their freedoms through cowardice but have no problems enjoying those same freedoms through the hard choices and sacrifices of others yet being the ultimate hypocrites criticizing the ones who got them those freedoms!

Do you think America exists because we asked the English politely and they relinquished it? Everything worth having has to be fought for or takes some sacrifice!

He who is without blame, cast the first stone!
