Jobs out of school

I'm a little curious: how long did it take everyone to find a job right out of nursing school? And what was your very first job as an RN/LPN?

I graduated in January, passed NCLEX-RN in early March and was offered a FT position in the ICU where I worked as a tech in April.

Most of my classmates also scored jobs shortly after passing NCLEX; a couple in rehab, 3-5 in telemetry, only 14 of us graduated.

I had a job lined up while in school for an ER in the area, but then had to move. Put out one application to a hospital in that area, which produced two interviews, and could have had either med/surg or ICU but chose med/surg. This was in 2006 though.

Wow, 65 applications! I'm glad you got an offer at your first choice. Congrats!

It's not bad if you decide to do 5 applications a day. Around here, most hospitals have an online application, and it saves your resume and cover letter, and you just click, attach, and hit submit. For the jobs I really wanted, I would type up a different cover letter than the one that was saved.

I agree that not a lot of applications. I'm still in nursing school and I'm applying for pct /student nurse positions.I have done 80 applications this month. Some are more lengthy than others. Some wants ALL your information, and want you to consent to a credit /background check during the application.

I graduated May 2014 but didnt take the nclex-rn til January 2015 because I was afraid of failure. Took and passed nclex. Then I waited until April to apply. It took a week after applying to get an interview and I took that first job I could get. I work at a nursing home and an assisted living.
