Published

Hello, I'm a pre-nursing student, preparing to enter the LPN program next fall. I was talking with an RN student in class yesterday who told me that she didn't go to the LPN program because jobs are scarce for LPNs. Is that true????? I live in the Dallas area, but hope to live up north in Montana or Colorado. Is what she said true???? Thank you so much

Yes, jobs are very limited as an LVN. Here we can't work in the hospitals and our refuge is nursing homes. Get your RN.

In Florida it's true in hospitals, scant number of new grad LPN jobs.

But in long term care, LPN jobs are aplenty.

Good luck!

That is so true. Hospitals don't hire us, but there are plenty of other areas that do. I am making 25, and about 47,000 last year, and then I made 23.

i finally got a job in a nursing home, but they are training me for prn. i wuld really love to get a fulltime job, since im a new grad, so any job openings out thea, let me naw.

anywhere near dallas.

I am not sure about jobs in TX, MT, or CO, but I am sure that LPN jobs here in Illinois (Chicagoland) are plenty in Long Term Care, Assisted Living and even hospitals in the Chicago area. I had a couple of job interviews last week (2 days after knowing I passed NCLEX-PN), and both DON/HR are hiring me on the spot, but of course I had to choose which one is better, and being an LPN you always have the pleasure to choose between employers. I chose to become an LPN first because I know that I can earn a better income while furthering my nursing education. Good luck to you!

There are more LTC openings in my area but several hospitals still hire LPNs. In any event if you think you want to work in geriatrics you will have your pick and should make a good salary. Good luck to you!

labelle, they almost all say one year experience, you can try by sending in your resume. The worst is they say they want experience, your a nurse your in demand, pardon my french and screw the ones who don't demand you.

Hey labelle, So true, I went for a job interview and their reply was while your background and experience is impressive we are unable to offer you a position at this time. The don was nice, they just got medicare certed basic care but I gave learned never screw the ones that dont hire you because you may have to go back again and the nursing community is now internet computersavvey I have seen some nurses broken down by former dons and became homeless I took two of them in with me 8 years ago so they are in non nursing postions .

LPN's are being phased out of all of the hospitals in MN. The only work you would be able to find is in LTC. I'm being told by RN's in the field that it has a lot to do with the unions up here. We are even being told that RN's aren't what MN hospitals want...they want the BSN's now. :angryfire

Specializes in sub-acute.

Always plenty of jobs in SE Massachusetts. On Cape Cod alone there are 10+ SNF's that are almost always hiring. As a new LPN, you could make 60k a year with just a small amount of OT. (10 hours a week)
