Jobs for LPN's....is it true???

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hello, I'm a pre-nursing student, preparing to enter the LPN program next fall. I was talking with an RN student in class yesterday who told me that she didn't go to the LPN program because jobs are scarce for LPNs. Is that true????? I live in the Dallas area, but hope to live up north in Montana or Colorado. Is what she said true???? Thank you so much

Hi I've been an LVN for about 2 yrs now, I graduated from Navarro College, and I work for Parkland, in one of their community based clinic's + I've just signed-up to work "agency" ( Which pays very well)...I have never had a problem finding jobs either, just a problem selecting which job I want...sooo there you have it....

Dont do the LPN program. I have been an LPN for 20 years and got laid off when the doctor's office moved to another county. Now, i can not even get a job with that much experience. Go on for the RN program. I wish i had years back.

Here in OK, LPNs are still being used in some, but not all, hospitals. However, LPN jobs are certainly around in doctor's offices, LTC, rehab, psych hospitals, etc. While it might be hard for a new grad LPN to get an acute care job, I know I for one was offered a few jobs just during my LPN clinicals and I hadn't even graduated yet!

You must live in a different area then i do, they are weaning LPN's out. If you are a CNA, MA, or an RN you have it made when it comes to jobs.

What is the difference in LVN programs in Community College and Tech schools. I know credits cant get transferred...but Why wait on a LVN program for a semester or two before actually getting in? I guess the question is " Is better to start your LVN career at a Approved school through the Board of nursing for a Tech school rather than waiting for a community college to accept you?

if your healthcare attitude is anything like ours...

Here, RNs are being weeded out and LPNs are given priority because of the oh-so-close skills we possess and the cheaper cost we are on budget.

Talk to their health authorities and ask what their future attitude is towards LPNs.

good luck!!
