Sorry about your situation; however, I am having a hard time understanding your question. Your post is one big blob of phrases, and many of your abbreviations for words add to the general confusion.

As I understand, the crux of your question revolves around how to properly explain your prior job history to a potential employer?

I would have taken the time to read this post had it had any semblance of actual thoughtful writing in it.

I read most of it, sounds like you had a rough patch of it, and was juggling so very much- I am so sorry. You really had a curve ball thrown at you. I am sorry that the facility couldn't have been more supportive,

If such a thing happens, you are best off asking for a short leave without pay for a month or so while you sort out your personal and family health issues. Without going into too many details (it is never a good idea to reveal too much of your personal problems at work as they will be held against you if you mess up...)

Your current situation if I understand correctly stands that you are looking for a new job and need to know how to explain your past work history.

This is not a problem, be honest and coherent and precise. When you go for an interview (make sure your resume is amazing and stresses what a caring and open nurse you are..I would add Private Duty Nursing (for caring for family members)) be honest but dont dwell on the problem. Say that you loved the job and should have taken a leave when your Mother in law was ill but tried to honor your shifts during a very trying period in your personal life. You were taking on too much at one time and it didnt work. Stress that you have learned your lesson not to try and do too much, and to get more help when you need it, you regret that the job didn't work out but it was not because of professional reasons. Then move on to how you feel you will be a committed member of their nursing team, you get along well with others etc and they wont regret hiring you.

I do believe you were trying to handle too much and should have asked for a short leave ( a weekend wouldn't have done it) due to medical reasons.

Work on your communication skills.

Good Luck and G-d Bless you and your family.

Previous poster said it all. Try not to be too upset at this time and approach job hunting with a positive attitude. Good luck.

I'm sorry but I can't understand your post. It is a bunch of phrases peppered with abbreviations but it lacks grammar and punctuation. Would you mind rephrasing it and I think that more people will be able to read it and help you.

THank you Achot chavi ( by all means i am thankful to God for his blessings!)

ok- i am sorry my grammar and punctuation looked like i had never passed 3rd grade- get a little worked up over it. ok- yes it was a bad post.

k- basically- since 2007 i have been sick with one thing to another and quit the ltc facility.. got well and got rehired back. well, this time it was my m-i-l ( who does childcare for me to work) to me in hosp with heart probs to my 6 year old who came down wit pneuomia, last week with severe tonsilitis( kissing tonsils) and now my dad is been having mini strokes and mom told me tonight he is having more of them and he is getting things in order-- my don called from her cell phone at 9pm at nite -4 days after i called out and in ended up in er with chest pain episode( on the way 2 work- had 2 pull 2 side of road and didnt have my nitro sl in hand)-she called me to terminate me. i called charge at work to see if she knew about it and since she didnt i told her to mark it down that i quit. i have tried to work my 12-14 hour shifts while all this is going on b/c u got to pay bills.

my question is :1. was i wrong to call and quit?

2. how do i explain the bad reference from her related to my absences for new job?

thank u to all who reply. i just want to go to work and like it and not have my life falling apart.

You're welcome, I know it seems like all is falling on you at one time, but G-d never sends a test you cant pass, you will find in you the strength to pass this too, have faith!

Answer one: you were in a very emotional state and responded emotionally to a poorly executed firing from your DON who should have invited you to a meeting the next morning and discussed your work problems with you and if she wanted to fire you, do it in person not by telephone at 9pm. So it matters not that you told the charge nurse you quit, since you were already fired. It makes all the difference in terms of compensation and unemployment benefits.

answer two: I know you need to work, for financial reasons, and if that is the case you must leave your personal life with all its baggage hanging on a tree outside the facility - dont worry noone will take it, when you enter work, you are a nurse and nothing more, your personal situation will have to wait while you do your job for the 8 or 12 or 14 hour shift (whatever you signed on for. That is how it works, you cant handle work problems while at home and you cant handle home problems while at work,

If I have a nurse dealing with home problems at work, I send her home to deal with them because I need a nurse to be focused on the job at hand which she cant do if she is dealing with other things. You have to tell your family that you work to keep them afloat financially and can;t be bothered during work hours, you will deal with the problems when you finish your shift. If that doesn't work, you must find help or enlist another family member to deal with things while you are at work,

Good Luck!!

Thank you i know God will work things out.

i know u have to leave the probs at home and facility wide i am known that i am a good nurse and team player per my own don's mouth to others and to me at the nursing station. its attendence pure and simple-i was trying to take everything on at once. she even wrote me up for the absences ( hey policy is policy fair is fair-no probs with that ) but she didnt mention the days i came in the next work working 8s to make up for those days.

i went to her several times including the a couple of days after i came out of the hospital about changing my hours and dropping me to part time.. and she just refused yet every week at least 2 new pt nurses came rollin by. was starting school in fall anyway and will have to take and pick up child when she starts school anyway also

ok:1. do i say i was terminated or i quit? i dont see why they wouldnt just give me the " i quit"-= i had my excuses to back up unemployment?
