physicians weight loss is mainly lo-very lo carb and high protein with protein supplements. started on 800 cal * 4 days then 900 *4 days then 1000 cal - rest .... started at 234 # lost 5 # week so after 2 weeks lost 10 #---then went to olive garden adn havnt been on that since... i ahve to go down to 160. my cholest was 201 and trig like 362: 6 days unrelieved cp with echo finding a lv lesion. have hypothyroid and PCOS( md started me on metf for pcos) will see... but anyway u can get protein supplements and diets from a couple of sources: 1. dietdirect.com 2. nashua nutrition.com supplements arent bad... gets expensive but works Good luck to all...

i agree: we are not miracle workers.. i have seen the attitude toward agency not just on hosp floor but at ltc and it is not right. i felt bad for oncoming agency nurse who knew nothing @ facility and when she asked @ who was on other end of facility ( nurse wise) the other nurse got real nasty and it was a simple question--" yes- someone will be there 2 help u" i was leaving and felt bad i couldnt stay to help but i showed her the main things---and i also told her pt blank if u need help u ask.-- they should have helped u out with that but i was staff at facility and even then even don wouldnt help-nor send extra nurse down.. passed 3-6p meds at 730p leaving time.~~ Best of luck and do the best u can.

Thank you i know God will work things out. i know u have to leave the probs at home and facility wide i am known that i am a good nurse and team player per my own don's mouth to others and to me at the nursing station. its attendence pure and simple-i was trying to take everything on at once. she even wrote me up for the absences ( hey policy is policy fair is fair-no probs with that ) but she didnt mention the days i came in the next work working 8s to make up for those days. i went to her several times including the a couple of days after i came out of the hospital about changing my hours and dropping me to part time.. and she just refused yet every week at least 2 new pt nurses came rollin by. was starting school in fall anyway and will have to take and pick up child when she starts school anyway also ok:1. do i say i was terminated or i quit? i dont see why they wouldnt just give me the " i quit"-= i had my excuses to back up unemployment?

THank you Achot chavi ( by all means i am thankful to God for his blessings!) ok- i am sorry my grammar and punctuation looked like i had never passed 3rd grade- get a little worked up over it. ok- yes it was a bad post. k- basically- since 2007 i have been sick with one thing to another and quit the ltc facility.. got well and got rehired back. well, this time it was my m-i-l ( who does childcare for me to work) to me in hosp with heart probs to my 6 year old who came down wit pneuomia, last week with severe tonsilitis( kissing tonsils) and now my dad is been having mini strokes and mom told me tonight he is having more of them and he is getting things in order-- my don called from her cell phone at 9pm at nite -4 days after i called out and in ended up in er with chest pain episode( on the way 2 work- had 2 pull 2 side of road and didnt have my nitro sl in hand)-she called me to terminate me. i called charge at work to see if she knew about it and since she didnt i told her to mark it down that i quit. i have tried to work my 12-14 hour shifts while all this is going on b/c u got to pay bills. my question is :1. was i wrong to call and quit? 2. how do i explain the bad reference from her related to my absences for new job? thank u to all who reply. i just want to go to work and like it and not have my life falling apart.

ok- this goes back to my last post i hope i did this right... been so long.... well, i quit the ltc facility i was with last year.... needing a job asap i was rehired in dec... new hall new people ...2 days training... "retraining" lpn thats been there over 30 days... she and i worked well .... did nite shifts work with our own ..other halls having extra nur while we get new admit/readmit/ send outs and dont get help.... worked 14 hour shift no lunch, no break busting our hump....no help Don tells me """ you're a good nurse'""' heres the prob... i wnet back to this job without problems.... well here comes trouble> my childs sitter ( my mom inlaw) is found unresponsive on floor... has another heart cath i have 2 miss days b/c she in hosp for like a week.... ne3xt my kid is sick with pneumonia.... shesh out with her there.... me with unrelieved cp x 6days ( yes- i wnet 2 work like that) then i was admitt4ed and echo found lesion on LV... to9ld'''' just to watch it...." have sl nitro have had to use it..." selft pay no insureance ....then child has strept throat with temp 102 and red throat tonsils almost covering airway..... md put on atb clears up in 1wek on way to work i have cp episode where er decided to tell me i have hx of anxiety and gerd gives me full doses of : morphine, zofran...after i told them ( my mom there) not to.... still nau and they give dose of phergan only to relase me a couple of hours later mom watching BP & vs drop 80/40s : er director and nurse and mom have to hold me to get into w/c b/c i cant even stand up....zonked...... got home at 12 mom couldnt wake me... ANYWAY while i was out those 2 days .... don calls me on her cell to terminiate me...) ... i say ok call charge to see if they told here and took me off sched ( by the ways : i asked for that wknd off family was to have procedure done) she said she didnt and i told her to write it down i quit..... question was i wrong? now i need job and have sucky hx : i didnt ask to be sick or other stuff and i asked don to drop qhours since hospt and she refused....each time...am i jsut lazy ?how do i handle this ? i was rehired and fired? or do i say quit?

:wink2: i hope i am doing this right... i have a question... i have a ltc pt ( only in for therapy) -she has an ileostomy. it leaks and thus has to be changed daily-literally. it usually leaks under it -she wants it with the the tail horizontal ( easy to empty while lying down) instead of tail down vertically. anyway... i cut to fit the bag opening and put a little bit of stoma paste arnd inner edges of hole- i clean site area, then skin-prep then stoma powder--then prep then powder then put on bag. no matter what we do it still leaks. and the skin about 1/2 inch around stoma is like raw. please help on how to get this bag to stop leaking and get skin healed. also: will rinsing bag with a little bit of h2o make it leak?

personally---like some others stated, spiritual questions are in our adm paperwork so it is an issue to be brought up. most pts say "no" that there is no :cult/eth/spir issues to help them with. i stay in the "Bible belt" and have had many pts ask me to pray with them and or for them. i am a Christian and have seeen many people touched and healed thru Jesus and prayer. I myself have been prayed for and healed-Thank you Jesus. so if a pt /res asks me to-i do. u made a choice to be an athiest ( spell?) so if u are not comfortable or dont believe then i would either find someone who does/willing to to this or just state that u cannont. u dont have to-its not like its in your job desc-:wink2: i have to admit--never really spoke to an athiest ( sorry-sometimes speellling sucks) would like to speak/email though.

i know how u feel- really. if u have a pastor please confide in him/her. i had to do that. i really hated my job ltc at my old facility and when i left: i sang hallelujah! a 500 # gorrilla from the bad place was lifted off and i fetlt free. there are alot of places an RN can go that LPn cant. maybe try a md office- a specialty office if hosp isnt what u like. or try ltc---- its nice when a little resident thinks you are the best thing since sliced bread b/c u care enuff to give her a lax!!!!!! take a little vacation/ time off to look at some options....... it will all work out...... wish u luck!!!!:wink2::icon_hug:

ok well.....not fired....still there......feeling well..... we have the 1 hr before/after rule here. my point is that if she is going to ride the clock until 5 or 6 she can do her meds. i dont expect her to do insulins/others med ith time being more than 1hr before/after. my point was that she smokes her time away and then throws her meds on me to do. got word back she is being watched now.....cant see that happening...

well - got call from charge yesterday and was told don had already replaced me for this wknd and that she would talk to me my next shift ( this wed). i think i should just call night charge tonite and quit. thanks for all the advice.

hi all--thank you for the advice. i have been out all this week b/c sickness... thyroid again....virus..... whatever it is.... been to md yesterday....maybe things will be ok.. i have not been to the don about it b/c i dont want to stir up t hings. she is close tot the lpn charge and the lpn charge used to run my hall and do all that for the back hall8-*4. i know if i go to her then it will get to lpn charge and then to 8-4 nur and will cause probs. i dont like confrintation/sitrring trouble yet am tired of things. i dont wnat to be in trouble for not doing the meds when she doesnt. i mean, if she does leave at 4-430 and 5ps dont get done , that is on my head right>? as for the smoke breaks there was another nurse doing the same as the 8-*4 and i was told yest by a nurse friend i work with that the don was monitoring things now. as for the sep duties ... yes i agree. i have my part of hall, u have yours and whatever happens we both tag team the biggies.... i just dont know........ but thank u to all with the advice....

i have right at 18 mths exp ( since 10-2006: 10months med/surg/ortho/dump floor- 8 ltc) and need some advice. i have been at the job for 8 months and to start with my ist day was put on floor and "trained" by this nurse----who is now a lpn super. i have a total of 36 res on this "pie hall" and i am the 12 hr nur with a 8-4 back hall nur. anyway........i have had several med probs since 2 months after starting here..... gall blad probs----surgery----more probs-----hypothyroid------ anyway.... loosing bene now.... the thing is that the 8-4 takes her 15 am break, her 1hr ( supp to be 30 min) lunch then her 15-30 min after lunch smoke...... then by 3p she does her 4s..... then takes about 3 more 15 min smoke breaks leaving me all her 5-530-6ps when i myself have 4-430-5-530-6p meds to do. this has been going on since i been there and nothing changes ..... had already put in notice but retracted it. don says " ( b/c sickness) if i didnt think u had any potential u would have been gone" i am so sick of this place and my license put on line b/c others cant date and label insulins etc....... and i ahd been out for 7/more days... i went in sick the other morning and threw up getting to place, on one hall and then on my hall and finally with tears in eyes stated to charge i am not working sick.... i dont know if i still have job but what to do if i dont............sorry this is sooo long.. hope i posted right......................

only been lpn for 18mths now and i can sympathize with u. ltc for 7 half months and now cant stand to go to work. i know what u mean. it gets tiring doing other people's job when u are bustin ur hump to do yours. my peeve is this: when u have an 8-4 nurse who takes hour long lunches ( supp to be 30 min), and several smoke breaks in late afternoon, leaving at 5/530 and leaves u with her 5-530-6p meds to do and doesnt ever count narc with me. havnt been to work in several days ( days off) and there is always some u have to ck rectally and lax etc...... no dates of open/exp on insulins and i have to be the one to do them all....... my licensed is threatend b/c of their laziness ( insulin etc.) am looking for another job now...feel guilty b/c cna's guilt me " everytime we get a nurse that cares and we can laugh with...she has to leave" or by residents " thank you for caring" after resident asks for laxitive/pain tab...... what more can we do?
