avillam2, I'm sure you're be busy studying. I'm interested in the start of spring 2014. Do I need the take a statistic course aside from the nursing statistic course taken from my BSN program? Thanks BethulieRN

choczrn1, I'm glad you got accepted to both schools at the same time. I'm in the process of applying to both schools. However, my heart is set to pick Rosalind if I ever find myself in your situation just because I have a co-worker who's brother is currently attending the program and she state that it is a very good school with excellent instructors. Regarding the admission requirements is statistics one of the course required? I did take a nursing statistic course in my BSN program, is this course accepted? Thanks, BerhulieRN

This is the reason I refused to work on the same floor that I used to work before as a CNA once I graduated from nursing school a year ago. Instead, I found another hospital and started fresh and without preconceived notions about me. I did very well, even though I must admit I also made mistakes nobody whispered about me.

I can only pray and wish that you've passed, after all the hard work you put in it. I was one of the lucky ones who felt after my exam 100% that I passed, and ended I found out a two days later that I did. I did get 75 questions.

The LPN is putting her license in jeopardy if ever an adverse situation occurs that makes the patient suffer.

Sorry about what your wife is going through. I known many nurses ( CRNA,NP,MSN) who have transitioned to become MD's here in the united states and especially here in Illinois. First option, she could decide to go through regular path by applying to schools of medicine here in the country. Since, she already have taken a lot of science classes, and have at least a BSN, she can start the process by talking to counselor in many of these schools, to see what are her options. The second path that many inspiring doctors with careers and families do is to contact school outside the country such as in the caribean. I know quite a few americains who became MD's using this path. You live and work here, but study outside. Here is one particular school that I can recommand taht is worth of checking is the school of medicine at university of health sciences antigua. Whatever your wife decide, make certain that the family can endure and afford it. I hope this help

Here are some ideas: 1- Meticulous handwashing before and after dressing changes 2- Use aseptic techniques(e.g, use of sterile gloves, dressings ect..) 3- Teach patient the importance of frequent hand washing and cleanliness 4- Administer the prophylactic/post operative antibiotic prescribed by the physician 5- Keep patient clean(e.g, gown, hair, skin ect)

Girl, you must buy a Nursing care plans book. Gulanick/Myers book is a great resource. Nursing school is a long way and you should use other resouces beside your required class books. Good luck.

I took a 2-10:30 pm LTC assignement trough an agency yesterday. My concern is, the charge nurse came at 5pm to give me notice of an upcoming admission. I was appalled. She said it is done all the time for agency nurses whether it is first time or not. At the hospital that I work we do not let agency nurses do an admission. So, I did take the admission at 6pm, but left the facility at 3 am because of the paperwork and documentation. I finished my 9pm meds pass at 12am. I would like to know if this is the norm out there for agency nurses to do?

I also had a nasty and evil instructor who made my journey a living hell in my second semester of nursing school and found out that she failed me the last day of shool after finishing all clinical rotations. The reasons she gave, I was not ready. I cried and sobbed over this, but I never given up. I applied to other schools and I was accepted as an advancement placement to another wonderful school that treated me with respect and dignity. I finally graduated in May 08 , passed my boards in July and I am a new nurse grad now. You have to hang in there, there is nothing you can do other that kiss her ass. Its hard to do, but remember chances are you will not have her next Semester. T If your intuitions are right, then I will recommend while still hanging in there to start applying to other school as these programs have a dead line to apply for their program. If you survive then never mind those applications. Like I said hang in there.

I was scared to loose my license just right at the beginning of my carreer. Since I started working night I noticed I was getting all the patients that every body did not want. For example, three nights ago, I had three uncooperative patients on critical fall risks with alarm placed, three unstable remote tele patient with tele tech calling to alert me about a v fib or v-tach at 130-160HR, pt on bleeding preacaution and having his picc line oozing blood in the middle of the night, a terminal cancer patient with unreasonable angry family member that are yielling at me. My preceptors most of the time is nowhere to be found and other nurses laughing when they see me running around because I am worried about my patient getting a code. Just to name a few instances, but really I was miserable to go to work.

I resigned my first job as a new nurse while still have two weeks orientation left. I wa doing very well for the fist six weeks during the days and I got along with my three preceptors, even though it was not easy trying to follow each preceptors style and way on doing things( a lot contradiction between them on how to do procedures). Since I have moved from days to nights, I lost my self esteem as a new nurse. The night nurses did not have mercy on me(I did work with two preceptors). I was at the point where I was sad all the time, I woke at night in tears and palpitations and the idea of going to work was not exciting anymore. In short I felt stressed out an miserable. I asked my NM to move me back to days or swich units, but she mentioned there were no opennings. I could no longer live in fear and wrote a letter of resignation to my NM two days ago. Today, she called be back and asked me to call her so we can talk. I am wondering, what will I say on our conversation?:cry:

Just graduated from ADN program. First job oncology nursing. Starting salary 24.60$ per hour, plus 5$/h for working nights, total of 29.60 per hour. With extra 2$ for working weekends. I also have the option to work mornings or afternoons.
