are jobs on craigslist legitimate?
I have been skeptical about responding to nursing jobs advertised on craigslist, but did so yesterday because I am really interested in the one advertised. It is for a hospice service near a city where I live in Minnesota. I found the website for the company and it also does home care as well. On the website, the CAREER page says "Coming Soon"- in which I found odd because this company has been around for several years and should probably have an established CAREER list page (instead of advertising on craigslist). Makes me a bit nervous that they advertise on craigslist and am wondering if they are legitimate or what the deal is. I have seen smaller home care agencies advertise on craiglist-but this particular company (according to it's website) has services in 4 different states. I would love to find out more about this company, but imagine I am not to mention the name of the company here, right? The site also "overstressed" it's relgious commitment, which is very unusual , isn't it? The add stated: "No phone calls please", "If you are compassionate, have a caring heart, and are interested in being a part of a growing hospice service in this area-please contact us." I responded by email to the ad through the listed number with a general letter of interest of application and requested more info. I received a email back from a person at the company claiming to be the Executive Director who is a Licensed Social Worker (the lowest level possible for a social worker and NOT a nurse!) Is that a little odd too? This person's email to me simply stated "please send resume" with enclosed fax #. The phone number is also listed, but I don't dare call, or should I? Sorry if I seem to be a little paranoid, but I have heard some real horror regarding jobs advertised on craigslist. I love hospice nursing and if this is legitimate, I will follow through. Advice or similar experiences shared would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

LPN to RN wage in current LPN position
I am just curious how other facilities deal with this situation: I have worked for three and a half years as a LPN in a long term care facility, while going to school to get my RN. In the past, when an LPN got their RN, my employer automatically paid them RN wages. This was regardless of working in a RN position (because there are very few within my facility) and continuing working in a LPN position. It was awesome for the many new RN's to be able to get the pay increase until they found an RN position elsewhere. Many of these people are still there actually unable to find a RN position and still receiving RN pay while working in a LPN position. Very nice for them and I was pleased to know that I had that option and was looking forward to it when I got my RN. However, as luck would have it, last May and due to "cost efficiency", they stopped doing this for new RN's within the facility. I am the first one that this would apply to and I am really disappointed. I am wondering what the norm is for this situation and if others have experienced this? I understand my employers reasoning for having to finally put a end to this practice, but had hoped that they would look at years employed and possibly still do it for me. Has anyone else out there a situation like this?

I need help with interventions for risk of infection
Thanks for suggestions for nursing interventions. Before I ever posted for help, I actually was originally going to use most of those, UNTIL I looked at the nursing outcome that my instructor is requiring us to use, which is "increased knowledge about prevention and control of infection for a patient with a surgical wound" To me, that is saying that I must focus on interventions that increase or give the patient knowledge on how to prevent/control infection, NOT what I would do to prevent infection. Does that make sense? I am thinking that I would use more teaching nursing interventions, right?

I need help with interventions for risk of infection
Can someone help me come up with 5 nursing interventions for the nursing diagnosis Risk for Infection, and the achieved nursing outcome that I have to have is increased knowledge about the prevention and control of infection. The situation is care of the patient with a surgical wound. I am supposed to use the Nursing Diagnosis Manual (Doenges, Moorhouse, & Moor) for this assignment. Would I basically look at promote wellness (teaching, discharge considerations) that are under NURSING PRIORITES NO. 3? I am stumped!

I need help with my care plan!
After pondering this....it really doesn't make sense to me. In this manual, the related factors for imbalanced nutrition:less than body requirements are: Inability to ingest/digest food; inability to absorb nutrients Biological/psychological/economic factors (Increased metabolic demands, such as burns) (Lack of information/misinformation/misconceptions) So, which one would nausea into or come under?

I need help with my care plan!
I am a nursing student and supposed to write a care plan for a case scenerio using the Nursing Diagnosis Manual by Doenges, Moorhouse & Murr. We are supposed to include the goal and the outcome criteria. I am wondering if my nursing diagnosis, goal statement outcome criteria and interventions look alright? Here is case: 66 yr. old man admitted to ER, admitting diagnosis is Gastrointestinal Bleeding Rule out Colon Cancer. Weight is 165 lbs.,BP-100/58, lack of appetite ,wt. loss of 10# without effort recently, diarrhea, fatigue, increased gas, pain described as "crampy feeling" in lower abdomen-hypogastric region the past 2 wks, some nausea, states he passed out when getting up from breakfast table and must have fallen and hit head because he has large bruise under his left eye. Here are my nursing diagnosis, goal statement and outcome criteria, and interventions: 1) Imbalanced nutrition:less than body requirements r/t inability to ingest food(lack of appetite) AEB weight loss Goal: Nutrition meets metabolic demands Outcome: Client will demonstrate that nutrition meets metabolic demands AEB weight gain of 1 or more pounds during hospitilization. Interventions: 1)Obtain weights using same scale, same time of day, and same clothing, as much as possible. 2) Medicate for pain nausea and manage side effects. Should I also list abdominal cramping/pain, nausea, diarrhea, increased flatulence in my r/t factors? Is lack of appetite considered inability to ingest? 2) Risk for falls r/t history of falls, over age 65, diarrhea and fatigue. Goal: Remain free from falls Outcome:Client will demonstrate lifestyle changes to reduce risk factors and protect self from injury AEB no report of falls during hospitilization Interventions: 1)Assess mood, coping abilities, personality styles 2) Provide/instruct in use of mobility devices and safety devices, like grab bars and call light/personal assistance systems. Should I just leave the r/t as hx of falls and not have the age, diarrhea and fatigue listed , although they are listed as contributing factoris in the manual. Also, if he only had the one fall, is that considered to be "hx of falls"? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for any help anyone is willing to give me........FAST!
