Jeff State Fall 2010 hopefuls...

Published

I will go ahead and start this post for people applying to Jeff State Nursing Program Fall 2010. I know there are people out there with questions...I know I have a ton myself...I guess we can start with the amounts of points people are applying with with what classes??This should give us an idea of maybe where the cutoff will be...it was like 186 for Summer 2010!

It's called "Exploring Medical Language" A student-directed Approach, 7th edition. It says Undersand. be understood on the front and it's by Myrna LaFleur Brooks. It has like 20 chapters teaching how to properly put prefixes, suffixes and word roots together and how to read them as well. also, it has note cards that tear out to better help you learn the terms with the meaning on one side and word on the other, so you don't have to do THAT part yourself.

Thanks Dana!! This is a required book, correct? Not that it really matters. I have already purchased two books that aren't required but I believe they will be helpful and that is all that matters. I am looking forward to orientation so I know what else I will need. I'm ready to get going!!

Never mind Dana, I see where you posted an answer to that question already. LOL.

I am not sure if it is required, but it came in a book bundle that a friend of mine bought at Shelby campus last Fall. I just know you have to know what's in it regardless, so better safe than sorry.. ya know...

Oh I know. That is exactly why I keep looking for additional resources to study. I'm looking for what ever I can get my hands on to help me learn.

Dana- the hospital post was the one that I was referring to...please keep us updated...we appreciate it...

Lynn- I got your lovely e-mail!and I e-mailed you back in a timely fashion...we will have to immediately form a study group after orientation lol...it will be needed...

I will let you all know something as soon as I find out. I have been studying the med term cards out of the book, there is 16 chapters and I've got to chapter 8. I plan on studying those 8 chapters for the next week or so and then moving on to 9-16 and working on them... It's not as tough as you would think because alot do come from AP... Glad to be getting that out of the way.

By the way they told us the book buddle was $600 but when we went to buy them they were $724 and the sales rep from the company was the one that said it was $600 also you have to get a nursing packet and thats like $33 I feel like we have to buy something every week so the first term is well over $2000 oh and you will probally leave orientation knowing a little more than you do now they don't really go over much they just say we will go over that on the first day of class

Yea I got the rundown today on everything... tuition- $960...books- $650...stethoscope-$120...blood titer-$150 ( I am getting revaccinated though)...kit- $30...there's no telling about what you have to buy in between semesters...from what I understand there are a lot of little things you have to buy during the semester...but I expected that...

what is the blood titer is that the clicker? what does the kit consist of? that doesn't even include uniforms and blood pressure cup.

doesn't FA pay for tuition???

dont have an i clicker

Yea I forgot the uniform...its like $70...don't know about the BP cup...the blood titer is when they draw blood t the doc to test your immunity to chicken pox...rubella...mmr...hepatitis and a few things like that..I think you can do that or get the vaccines over again...I had to get the vaccines again because I lost my shot records...the prob with the titer is that it isn't covered by insurance...and yea I think your FA should cover tuition...could anyone tell me if there is a certain physical form that we are going to have to get filled out when we get a physical?
