hey teejazzy,

i'm in my second semester and these are a few pointers for you that will make life easier for you:

get your hands on a calculate with confidence book NOW, and start doing the chapters at the a rate that means you will complete it before you start 1st sem. you will thank me if u do this.

it's a great book that goes thru everything step by step, the math is mostly just multiplication and division, but their are different ways to work the problem, and doing that book will help u get a handle on what method works best for u, and help u avoid getting confused.

in 1st semester u get 3 chances to pass it, but if u don't pass it the third time u are out. working on your calculations now will ensure that u will jump thru that hoop the first time and it will be one less thing to worry about.

u must read your text book!! the prof hate it when they know u have not read the material before lecture. also, if u have read the material the lecture becomes your first review of the material and you will be well on your way to learning the material, and you can ask the questions that u need to clarify anything you don't understand, this is important, because the next time you see the professor will be when you are having an exam of the material.

the pace is fast and furious and it is easy to get behind on your reading, so look at the chapters that need to be read and budget your time to get your reading done. after you have done your reading, do as many nclex style questions on the material as you can find. the review and rational series is great. you can find them on amazon.

the reading may sound like drudgery, but the more you read, the more you will understand, the more you understand, the more you expand your knowledge base. having knowledge gives you confidence as a nurse, and helps to to make the most of clinicals.

basically IMHO if you are doing nursing school right, you will get to the point that you if aren't reading or studying every free moment you have, you will feel like something is wrong. i can't just veg out in front of the tv. if i'm on the sofa, i've got at least one textbook with me. you will have to be driven and disciplined to reach your goal.

good luck and best wishes!!!

Hey,

I would agree to start with the calculate with confidence book. We completed the book in less than the 1 month so start now that way it will be more of a refresher and you will have more time to focus on HA that class (WOOO!!!!) read the chapters several times at least twice and practice nclex questions before you take the test. I came out of pharm with an A and HA with a B. So Im grateful!!! Read it understand it and keep going they do not wait on you at all!!. I plan plan plan and plan some more. What times I study and times I go out. It's hard but I have a family that I have to tend to so I at least squeeze in 3 hours a week for enjoyment with them. So that's my story. I don't have all A's but it works for me. Find the best way for you to study and go for it. Give it all you got and find some more somewhere and give it too. Good Luck!!
