Jeff State Fall 2010 hopefuls...

Published

I will go ahead and start this post for people applying to Jeff State Nursing Program Fall 2010. I know there are people out there with questions...I know I have a ton myself...I guess we can start with the amounts of points people are applying with with what classes??This should give us an idea of maybe where the cutoff will be...it was like 186 for Summer 2010!

Yea I forgot the uniform...its like $70...don't know about the BP cup...the blood titer is when they draw blood t the doc to test your immunity to chicken pox...rubella...mmr...hepatitis and a few things like that..I think you can do that or get the vaccines over again...I had to get the vaccines again because I lost my shot records...the prob with the titer is that it isn't covered by insurance...and yea I think your FA should cover tuition...could anyone tell me if there is a certain physical form that we are going to have to get filled out when we get a physical?[/quote

Is it 150 fo the vaccines or just for them to draw the blood or both? and if so where did you get this done? the I clicker comes w/ book bundle and seperate it is 28.50. I think you only have to have it for the Shelby campus. I talked to FA and they WILL cover tuition if your approved for FA as usuall..

If I go to the book store and tell them I am in the night/weekend program will they know what books I need? I am not exactly sure what I am doing but I would LOVE to get my books today or tomorrow so I can begin looking at them this weekend.

My pediatrician is no longer a doctor or even an office, so I have no records of any DPT or MMR vaccines I may have had. So I went to my current doctor, and asked him to spell it out for me. He said he could give me the DPT (Diptheria-Pertussis-Tetorifice) and TB shots very inexpensively, and chicken-pox if I will need it, but to go to the Health Department to get the rest. The reason for this is that most dr offices do not stock Hep-B series, etc. He would have to order it, wait for it, and it would cost me around $200.00 for each shot (it's a series of 3). The Health Department has them in stock, and they are about $54 per shot. I did just that. I went June 10th for my first Hep B shot - paid 54.43, and I am going today to get the second one in the series. The second shot is taken one month from the first shot, and the third shot is taken 6 months from the first one, so I will have that one sometime around Dec. 10.

The Health Department is 1400 6th Avenue South. The phone number is 933.9110. They have a recording with all of the shots they offer and all of the prices. They have a perfect parking situation, a deck, you are in and out in minutes. So totally easy and fast. I decided not to get the Hep A series b/c I am not sure we need it, just got Hep-B.

Forms - my doctor gave me a physical in June at the same time I was getting the TB shot and DPT, and I said "what kind of form do I need from you?", he said "you will be told what to ask me for during your orientation - just call my office and we will get it ready." They are very used to all this. He knew to do a full blood panel and ECG stuff too. He said not to fool with getting titers, just get the shots, since I don't have any pediatrician records. He said why take a chance on paying for the titers AND the shots, why not just pay for the shots and be done with it. That's what the nurses in his office told me as well. The Health Department gives you a blue form that lists your vaccinations you have received from them. ****When I went, there were a couple of nurses getting their annual TB shot - it's the only one that's annual. ***It's a walk-in situation. They know why you are there - just say "nursing student" and they walk you through it. You need an ID.

That's what I have been doing for the last 2 months...getting shots...I got the mmr...rubella hep a/b combined shot...I have 2 of 3 and I am waiting on the last shot in 6 months...my insurance covered all of it...my physical is scheduled for Tues. after orientation...should be fun...the health department is probably the best call otherwise...I am getting my chicken pox vaccine today...they said something about a flu shot? I don't even know if you can get them this time of year...

hey bradley, is the varicella a definite requirement even though I have had chickenpox? if so I will get it today when i go.

sorry, meant to include this on the flu shot: my doc says he will give me a flu shot as soon as he gets them in, season doesn't start til mid-october, his office will receive the shots October 1st so I am to call him back then if i need one. I will ask the health dept about their availability today when I go, will post later.

insurance will pay for all l my shots, but I have to pay 75 for my physical... way better than I thought it was gonna be... YES!

So who got their letters from Jeff State today? I got mine in the mail. I have already called to ask questions. LOL. I am ready for Monday so all the questions will be answered. (hopefully) LOL

Haha..I actually stopped checking every day...ill look for it...they aren't good about answering questions...did it tell you anything you needed to know?

Yeah, me too!! I called because it said bring your CPR card with you and I don't have mine yet. Turns out they don't really mean that. They mean bring it if you have it but if you don't it's OK. LOL. I didn't hammer her with all the other questions I have. haha. They must answer a lot of your questions during the orientation as the letter says it lasts about 2 hours. I am ready to get it over with.
