Jeff State Fall 2010 hopefuls...

Published

I will go ahead and start this post for people applying to Jeff State Nursing Program Fall 2010. I know there are people out there with questions...I know I have a ton myself...I guess we can start with the amounts of points people are applying with with what classes??This should give us an idea of maybe where the cutoff will be...it was like 186 for Summer 2010!

Has anyone heard of the people working at some of the schools to help you sign contracts w/ hospitals after graduation and they will pay your way through the remaining 2 years? I heard they were doing that, but I'm worried that if I sign on with someone that they will just put me on what shift on whatever floor they want me and I am married with 2 kids and it will be difficult to go to 3rd shift or something like that.

I didn't understand all that Dana..I am slow today..haha

Saturday classes doesn't sound too bad.

SHE LOVED THEM! said it was a great choice!

Maybe you have it confused with the partnerhsip between St. Vincents and Jefferson State. You should be able to talk to someone in the Nursing department that can explain it to you. Good LUCK!

It's called "Exploring Medical Language" A student-directed Approach, 7th edition. It says Undersand. be understood on the front and it's by Myrna LaFleur Brooks. It has like 20 chapters teaching how to properly put prefixes, suffixes and word roots together and how to read them as well. also, it has note cards that tear out to better help you learn the terms with the meaning on one side and word on the other, so you don't have to do THAT part yourself.

do you get it from any book store or is it a required text for Nursing school?

Well that it is good to hear!! I applied for the part-time program because at the time I was working, but since I'm not anymore I was contemplating switching to day program if possible. But I think the part-time program may be a little bit more flexible because I'm also planning a wedding for next year so I think I should probably stick with part-time program.

Dana, have not heard that but I am going to ask the second semester students in my A&P class Monday, since my remaining two years starts theoretically (hopefully just two!!) in August. Bradley, please check your email.

Did I see someone's comment that JSCC's NCLEX pass rate is 100%? Is that typical? That seems huge. Totally positive. I am getting excited!

Med terms is easy they break it up over 4 test and it is not just knowing what the definition is you have to really know your A&P because anything they think you should know is fair game and you study like 100 words and they only ask you 20 questions but most of the words you should know from A&P

lol, which post? The one about the hospitals paying your tuition through school now and for your books and other needs. The only thing is if you sign onto the hospital you are in a contract to work with them for so long and the pay may not be as good as other prospects and they will put you where they want you and on what shift they want you on, YOU DON"T REALLY HAVE A CHOICE... which is great for the singles, but not for a married woman with 2 kids. that's just what I've heard from others; however, it would be nice to get everything taken care of by them... hmmmmm.... duno

I think it is required, I know it comes with the book bundle.. atleast that is what I was told.

thanks, I have the words to study and how to properly read them. I've been reading and studying the note cards on and off this summer and most of the ones I remember are the ones from my AP 2 class.. So we'll see... fingers crossed..

I had a friend that said that there was going to be someone on the 3rd floor and PC campus for people that are in the program to sign a contract to come work for whatever hospital for so long after graduation and they would pay your tuition and as long as you bring your reciepts of books, uniforms, ect... they would pay you back. HE went up there today to find out more info and I'm waiting to hear back from him. I will let you know for sure the details as soon as I know something... but if it's true, then that would totally ROCK!!!;)
