Jeff State Fall 2010 hopefuls...

Published

I will go ahead and start this post for people applying to Jeff State Nursing Program Fall 2010. I know there are people out there with questions...I know I have a ton myself...I guess we can start with the amounts of points people are applying with with what classes??This should give us an idea of maybe where the cutoff will be...it was like 186 for Summer 2010!

it is comfortable to know that i am probably not entering a program that is at jeopardy of losing their accreditation. what to do next guys? talk about what stethoscopes and shoes are the best to buy?haha

hey bradley, it's lynn. i have an idea for a topic: math fear, or we can talk about the comment someone who is in the program made a while back, that said "the tests in the nursing program are nothing you have ever seen..." - totally scares me - what does that statement even mean for the love?! i don't doubt that it's true, just scary, sallimsayin

most of the test give you multiple choice, but they are all correct. it's a matter or what to do first.. atleast that is what i've heard... we need to all just breathe and not get overwhelmed before it begins. i have many family that are nurses that say it is alot of studying but it's not as bad as people make it out to be.. maybe that is just me being optismistic, but i'm going to remain that way as long as i can... good luck to you all..:yeah:

Does anyone know how the classes are gonna be for the part-time program first semester?

I looked at the list of classes and it looks like we have 2 classes in the part time program. Health assessment and Intro to pharmacology..... There are other classes but most people have those done before entering the program. Does anyone know when the fall schedules will come out and when we can register? I would think it would have to be soon since classes start August 19!

I heard someone in the office today say that registration begins on the 19th.

You don't register the school does it for you and the test are not hard just don't read too much into the questions and don't worry about the math it's not hard just start working on it now

Dana...yes I am familiar with the Shelby campus area...anywhere that is a landmark to you will be fine with me!...hey Lynn!...yes math fear is def a concern for me...as I hate it with a passion...and I am very concerned with the tests...whoooo knoows how it will really be...haha...the schedules are online...you can easily decipher which classes are for which programs...Lynn..are you still working out of that math book you showed me?

Can you recommend a good source for math info? I have looked on line but I'm not sure what to use as a study guide. I am not bad in math, just been a bit since I have done calculations so I want to be sure I'm on top of it before classes start. All info appreciated!!

Yep, still working with that math book. It's just one I got at B&N, called Dosage Calculations Made Incredibly Easy. They actually have a series of "Made Incredibly Easy" books, sort of like the "for Dummies" books, tons of books in this series for nursing. This one has conversions (apothecary system, metric system, avoirdupois system, household system), fractions, ratios, proportions, solving for x, drug orders, calculating oral vs rectal vs topical vs injections vs IV infusions. It also has peds dosage, obstretric dosage and crit.care dosage, which we won't see for a while I imagine. etc. Dimensional Analysis is in the front, that helped me with the bonus math probs he gives us in Anat.

Yea I think I am going to go out and buy a couple of the books in that series, it seems as if they have really helped ya out... I have a couple of friends that are going to be a semester ahead of us so we might have a little inside information...that should help haha...I am just thankful that we don't have to work while doing this Lynn...I don't think I could make it if I did...

no kidding. Hey, let's do this: let me give you this book tomorrow in class to take and review til next week or so - im putting it in my bag now. just finished taking quiz 15, about to take 16, planning on going to open lab this afternoon.

Thanks bthomas!! I have to work and do the part time program. I honestly wish I could quit and focus on school. I am worried it will cause a problem for me. If I have to I will cut back on my hours. I wont let work mess this up for me!!

I would appreciate being able to use that book for a few days!...I need something that isn't quite as textbooky (new word)...Calculate with Confidence is good but I like the book you have as a supplement...those quizzes take me forever...it will take me all afternoon...I wish I could go to open lab but surprisingly I didn't have that much trouble with yesterday's lab stuff..it was fairly easy...Sliverofhope: no problem!haha...I enjoy focusing on school but I feel like a bum sometimes!...I had a job from age 15 to 24 and now I decide to quit and go to nursing school!lol...backwards..
