Jeff State Fall 2010 hopefuls...

Published

I will go ahead and start this post for people applying to Jeff State Nursing Program Fall 2010. I know there are people out there with questions...I know I have a ton myself...I guess we can start with the amounts of points people are applying with with what classes??This should give us an idea of maybe where the cutoff will be...it was like 186 for Summer 2010!

hey guys as far as registering i am kind of confused i seen where someone said that the school does it for you, so if you are awarded financial aid does it automatically go through or something...i am sure they will explain at orientation, just curious thats all

Yeah, this registration thing has me confused as well. I'm wondering how we will know when and where the classes are, what books to buy....general questions. Like you said, I'm guessing they will cover all that next week. I would like to get my books as early as possible so I can get a look at what is in store for me this semester. I'm headed to B&N to get that calculation book when I get off work today. No better time like now to start learning things I will need to know any way.

bthomas....I earned my bachelors degree thinking "I want to be a nurse" all the while taking business classes. I graduated with a degree in management info systems and HATE it. Now I am BACK in school to do what I should have done all along. So maybe you are doing it the smart way....do what you want the first go around.

This is my theory...I went to the Fall 2010 (view only) look up classes option on the Jeff State website...I looked at the nursing classes in general and its very easily distinguished which is part time and full time and the location distinguishes what campus...there is only one class per location and program so it pretty well gives you your shedule besides the clinicals which are on Thurs or Friday it says...I understand that under the fundamentals class it lists a manipulative lab and clinicals and the manipulative lab is what you have up until clinicals to prepare you for them...it seems complicated but after I looked at it a million times it got a little more clear lol

I already bought my books for this upcoming semester from a friend and I checked with the administrator before buying them and she said that the books would be the same as last fall. I think for the most parts it's working on proportions

That is awesome...I only wish I could find someone selling their books and get a better deal...the first semester is gonna cost about 2k...anything to lighten the load haha

start checking out the bulletin boards in the breakrooms, I know they are not buying the books back for near the price you will pay for them. That is how I found mine and it was right at book buy back after Spring. Also, there is a medical terminology book that they don't tell you is an at home study and they don't give you but a little over a week to read that whole book on top of everything else. So I would start on that as soon as you can.

Yea I have heard about that book...they begin giving quizzes on it almost immediately...good thing its mostly memorization I guess...I will get them a little early and start reading up...it should be fun...

OK. What medical terminology book? Do they sell it at the book store or do we need to get it elsewhere? Do you know what the title of the book is? I got the drug calculations book yesterday so I can begin to prepare, plus I bought a flip book on pharmacology that has excellent memorization tips and mnemonic devices to help recall the information.

Does anyone know how the classes are gonna be for the part-time program first semester?

My sister in law started the program last fall and her first semester for PART TIME were all on Saturday..She was there all day but it working out for her! Good luck!

Saturday classes doesn't sound too bad.

It's called "Exploring Medical Language" A student-directed Approach, 7th edition. It says Undersand. be understood on the front and it's by Myrna LaFleur Brooks. It has like 20 chapters teaching how to properly put prefixes, suffixes and word roots together and how to read them as well. also, it has note cards that tear out to better help you learn the terms with the meaning on one side and word on the other, so you don't have to do THAT part yourself.
