Hello everyone!
I'm new to this form as I am trying to get into January 2014's intake in Practical Nursing!
I am pretty nervous since I'm not sure if I will make it this year since I did graduate high school 4 years ago but I did do a victory lap for a year in upgrading my chemistry mark with additional mathematics courses. However in the end I didn't actually go to pursue the science field in University instead I went for a BA in Psychology.
For Practical nursing I have applied to: Sheridan College, George Brown, and Centennial College (Flex); I have already done my HOAE test at Sheridan College as it is an admission requirement for Sheridan, however I was told I wouldn't get my test scores! This is so nerve wrecking!
Also, as I am asking for advice here, I was just wondering if anyone give me some advice/let me know the chances of getting into this program with the following high school marks: 12U English - 70, 12U Chemistry - 89, 12U Adv. Functions- 78, 12U Data Management - 95, 12U Calculus - 88, 11U Bio - 71, 12U Philosophy - 77. GPA in University was a 3.7. I know my high school marks aren't the greatest at all, but any advice/opinion will help relief my stress!
Also anyone here applying for Practical Nursing for January intake :)?
Thank you everyone :)!
Hey Loriangel14,
As I know the Waterfront Campus is fairly new compared to other colleges which have a PN program. Since your daughter is studying there, I was just wondering if you know and could tell me whether what people on forums have been saying is true. They say that the Waterfront Campus has way more advance equipment and are newer compared to other colleges? From what I heard depending on what college, many of them carry old equipment as a lot of people mention Centennial is the worse :S?
Hey FutureNurse18,
I keep checking my application status, I don't know if you do the same thing :/ I guess it's just about nervousness.
I wished I was able to get my scores in the mail or email, but unfortunately Sheridan's process is just different. But I believe all colleges should get your results asap after it's been marked and updated online! You can always call into Sheridan Admission Office and ask just to confirm whether they received your HOAE test results :)!
I took Psychology at UTSG and just don't like it at all ... how about you? Oh man, and I was complaining because of travelling from Georgetown to Toronto, guess I shouldn't be since you traveled farther than I did! Commuting during the winter is the worse!
Really?! Colleges can actually see whether you accepted another offer? I didn't know this as this is really my first time accepting a program through OCAS, but I did have prior experience using OCAS the year I was applying to OUAC. I thought OUAC and OCAS worked the same way - meaning if I decline and accept another offer the University wouldn't know, with the difference exception that OCAS limits 5 program choices. I guess we can't worry too much as of now if they do alter it, I'm sure the colleges will be understanding why we decline their offers and went with another... :/ Yes always check out the campuses, but I guess it has to be scheduled in advance or something.
By the way, are you going to start preparing for all the pre-placement requirements? Or you have already done so?
Thank you loriangel14 :)
Yes I heard about Georgian College's lab, my friend who is studying there tells me it's excellent and PN program was closed when I applied to OCAS. I guess it's many people's top choices for PN. Same here, I have not heard anything positive yet, but hopefully it's just gossip/rants. Looking forward to visiting the Waterfront Campus as it is always nice to tour around a new campus
Alexis04,
I know what you mean! I've been checking OCAS religiously wherever I am..even have it on my phone lol
I keep waiting for an update but I have a feeling it will be another week.
Nice, I took criminal juatice I loved the program and learning it...but didn't really know what I wanted to do with the degree afterwards...and knew that more schooling was involved so I took a leave.
I've been working at a vet clinic for 5 years now and fulltime for the last couple years since I finished. I love what I do but I want more and the last couple years I've been working towards upgrading my pre-reqs for nursing.
So quite the change up, but I'm ready for a new start :)
I didnt know the colleges could see that either when you accept. She just told me..so im holding off as long as i can
And omg no! I dont know when the requirements are due yet but i know i should get on that ! Ive been stressing out about living arrangments, leaving work and financws a lot in the last couple days i have a lot on my plate and deadlines to meet :s
It will feel real once i have these things booked and it all starts coming together .

LOL FutureNurse18, if you didn't tell me you had it on your phone, I didn't even know an app existed!
It probably may be next week since I guess the admission office have a lot of work on their hand, etc. But sometimes I just wished they could be faster (I know selfish me!) but this waiting game is nerve wrecking!
Criminal Justice is an amazing program - I would have definately went that route if I thought properly... But the admisssions for that program is not easy to get into now these days.
That's great, get to see animals everyday! Ever had the thought of becoming a veterinarian since you work there/vet tech? But I guess it's difficult since animals can't talk... Must have been tough to carry a full time job and upgrading courses the same time. But your hard work has paid off :)!
I didn't even know that, but since you told me, thank you for the heads up! I will be holding on a day or two before the deadline
Same here, I'm not sure when they are due, but from what a lot of the colleges site says - once you receive an admission, it is best to start early preparing the requirements since it takes approximately 1-2 months or more...
Don't stress out yet! Take it easy, probably switch from FT to PT for work? But always take your time to find a place if you do so - probably ask friends/family and finances, OSAP can be a benefit. We'll get through this soon!
Hello there,I just my acceptance to Sheridan, I am still waiting to hear back from Senecca, Georgian and George Brown. I thought I was the only crazy one constantly checking my OCAS every couple of hours :)
Hey vwgirl55!
Congratulations on your acceptance to Sheridan College :)!
I was just wondering when did you apply to Seneca and Georgian? When I applied in late-June the PN program at Georgian and Seneca were already closed :/...
I think we are all nervously waiting for a response, so no you're not crazy at all lol! As for George Brown, FutureNurse18 and I are waiting for a response from them too!
Also have you started your pre-placement requirements yet?
Good luck and keep us posted here :)!
Alexis04,
There's no ap I checked ! Haha I have an android and just go on regular data all the time to check. I can't even count how many times in a day. I know this waiting game is killing us all!
I did love the program but you have to know what you're going to do with It afterwards and its a very expensive program to do just because.
I thought about being a vet I would absolutely love it!! However its a completely different degree and all my courses were English and law based..and I would need a 4 year BA plus vet college after that whixh is a couple more years!
I already have debt from my first university experience I couldn't do another one.
And I figured a two year program is faster..I can start working and pay off debt faster then always go back and upgrade for my RN and it will be easier for me that way.
I'm Soo happy all this hard work has paid off. I only have a couple months to prepare. I can't say anything at work right now because if my boss finds out I'm leaving hell have to hire another fulltime and hell cut back my hours and screw Me over before I leave so I have to keep it hush for now until I have a plan. I can't wait until I can tell everyone I'm leaving and shout it from the rooftops!!
Hey FutureNurse18
Ohh , my bad I thought there was like an app! I'm on the same page as you but not checking OCAS, instead on like the admission status on George Brown, Sheridan etc. But Centennial College doesn't have one so that's the only time I go on OCAS.
You're correct like correctional officer or something. I believe all programs whether it is University of College, the fee is over the roof top .. which sucks because by the time we graduate, we're all in debt, horray!
Oh man, you're right needing another Bachelor just to get the prerequisites for Vet School! You made the right decision! Have you had any thoughts of bridging to RN in the future? I know it seems a bit too early to ask since we haven't even started the program yet or don't know where we want to go, but just curious
I'm happy for you too :)! I actually admire the fact that you worked full time and studied along the way. I knew some people who did that and let's say they dropped studying after a few weeks because it was too tough. I don't think I could have ever done that neither. Just find the right timing to tell him, he should be nice about it and maybe even ask if you're willing to go from Full time to Part time!
I applied to George Brown for Jan. 2014 start and I haven't heard anything yet and my status reads "under admission review". On the OCAS section of the "stuview" website it reads "no decision". So I called George Brown. They informed me that they just started looking at the January applications last week and will be sending out acceptances in October. So it looks like we have to wait a few more weeks.
