January 2014 intake Practical Nursing

Published

Hello everyone!

I'm new to this form as I am trying to get into January 2014's intake in Practical Nursing!

I am pretty nervous since I'm not sure if I will make it this year since I did graduate high school 4 years ago but I did do a victory lap for a year in upgrading my chemistry mark with additional mathematics courses. However in the end I didn't actually go to pursue the science field in University instead I went for a BA in Psychology.

For Practical nursing I have applied to: Sheridan College, George Brown, and Centennial College (Flex); I have already done my HOAE test at Sheridan College as it is an admission requirement for Sheridan, however I was told I wouldn't get my test scores! This is so nerve wrecking!

Also, as I am asking for advice here, I was just wondering if anyone give me some advice/let me know the chances of getting into this program with the following high school marks: 12U English - 70, 12U Chemistry - 89, 12U Adv. Functions- 78, 12U Data Management - 95, 12U Calculus - 88, 11U Bio - 71, 12U Philosophy - 77. GPA in University was a 3.7. I know my high school marks aren't the greatest at all, but any advice/opinion will help relief my stress!

Also anyone here applying for Practical Nursing for January intake :)?

Thank you everyone :)!

I applied for Jan 2014 start at Sheridan, George brown and Niagara. Let me know when you hear! :)

Your grades sound fine. You should have no problem getting in. Good luck.

Hey FutureNurse18!

Thank you for posting! Have you done the HOAE test since I see you have applied to Sheridan too? How did you think about the HOAE test? I wrote mine at Sheridan the Davis Campus and let's say time was really limited for me :(!

By any chance, do you know when the admissions are going to go out (or at least the latest)? If you do, please let me know since I am hearing people say it's the end of September, but some colleges don't even give them out until Oct - early Nov.

I will definitely let you know once I hear from any of the colleges! Keep me posted also, good luck :D

Hey loriangel14!

Thank you for post! Really, my marks are fine? As I know each year, competition into Practical Nursing actually gets higher and higher!

Not trying to doubt myself here, but from what I read on other threads on allnurses.com, there are many people here who have better marks than me, but what I don't understand is the fact that the college they applied to gave them an alternative offer (such as Pre-health) instead of going straight to practical nursing.

But I really thank you for your input and that gave me a little more confidence.

I hope you get in. Waiting can be the worst. My daughter started at George Brown in January and it was well into October I think before she got her acceptance.

Thank you loriangel14 for your support :)! I was just wondering, how does your daughter like the program at George Brown and since time is really limited for January intake, how did she prepare for all the requirements before the start of her program (immunization records, CPR, etc)?

Yes, apparently George Brown start sending out offers late September like the last two weeks or about, so your daughter receiving her acceptance in October is considered pretty early :)!

She did well her first semester. She found it overwhelming but once she got over her nerves she managed fine. She just had her orientation for this semesters clinical site. She had a placement first semester as well.

It was really a scramble to get her stuff done by January. She ended up getting things a bit late but the school gave her an extension. The worst was getting the police check done.

It's easier to get into January as less people tend to apply so it's not as competitive.

I got into centennial flex September 2013 and so far like it a lot.

The flex program is really worth it. The work load is just so much easier to handle and you can likely be exempt from some classes (communication and developmental psychology). So you may just have three class your first semester. So worth it :)

Thank you for the input! It is understandable that it can be overwhelming once a semester starts, that's always the worst part of school! So for January intake, orientation for clinical site doesn't commence right away as the semester starts and regarding the placement - I thought it starts second semester? Please correct me if I'm wrong!

I believe it would be hectic for me too if I get into the January program since I would not even know when I will hear back from them. Oh man, I agree with the police check, apparently that takes the shortest time to get the forms and fill it out but the longest time to get it delivered to your home (approx 10-12 weeks or more.

Hey MizzMo!

Thank you for your post.

Hopefully, I can get in! I applied for the Centennial Flex program too. It's great to hear your input on the flex program and hopefully you are enjoying the program as school just started last week. I was pretty bobbled to whether which program to apply to, either the flex or regular. However, in the end I just applied to both for January intake. But then I ended up dropping the regular two weeks after I applied and now from what I see the regular program is already wait listed.

If I do only have three classes for my first semester, I would be pretty happy since I am commuting and Centennial college is pretty far from me, but if I have more classes it wouldn't be much of a matter neither!

They try to keep the flex program to only 2-3 days a week. I only have classes on Tuesday and Thursday.

I had applied for both full time and flex and was wait listed for full time but got accepted into flex. Which was my first choice so I was happy with that.
