January 2014 intake Practical Nursing

Published

Hello everyone!

I'm new to this form as I am trying to get into January 2014's intake in Practical Nursing!

I am pretty nervous since I'm not sure if I will make it this year since I did graduate high school 4 years ago but I did do a victory lap for a year in upgrading my chemistry mark with additional mathematics courses. However in the end I didn't actually go to pursue the science field in University instead I went for a BA in Psychology.

For Practical nursing I have applied to: Sheridan College, George Brown, and Centennial College (Flex); I have already done my HOAE test at Sheridan College as it is an admission requirement for Sheridan, however I was told I wouldn't get my test scores! This is so nerve wrecking!

Also, as I am asking for advice here, I was just wondering if anyone give me some advice/let me know the chances of getting into this program with the following high school marks: 12U English - 70, 12U Chemistry - 89, 12U Adv. Functions- 78, 12U Data Management - 95, 12U Calculus - 88, 11U Bio - 71, 12U Philosophy - 77. GPA in University was a 3.7. I know my high school marks aren't the greatest at all, but any advice/opinion will help relief my stress!

Also anyone here applying for Practical Nursing for January intake :)?

Thank you everyone :)!

They try to keep the flex program to only 2-3 days a week. I only have classes on Tuesday and Thursday.

I had applied for both full time and flex and was wait listed for full time but got accepted into flex. Which was my first choice so I was happy with that.

That's fantastic only 2-3 days a week, meaning there is plenty of the time throughout the other days to review and study!

Now that you have told me, I really hope I do get into the Flex program. I haven't heard back from them yet :( except for Sheridan College which was my backup if I really don't get into any other program.

I haven't heard from Sheridan or George brown yet but admissions said they have already started sending out their offers!!!

I did my HOAE test at Niagara as it was closer for me and I already knew where the campus was. They should have forwarded the results to the other colleges

The best news came in yesterday!!!

I GOT ACCEPTED TO TWO PROGRAMS AT NIAGARA SO FAR!!!

Modified and regular January start

Still waiting to hear back from the others..

Good luck!! Let me know when you hear :)

Congratulations FutureNurse18 on your two acceptances:D!! But the waiting game is still on :(! Just curious, if you do plan on going to Niagara, which one will you go for, the modified or regular ? Hopefully we hear back soon!! Good luck to you too and thank you for keeping me posted!

I am not so sure about George Brown since the acknowledgement letter did state "late- September" so probably they have. However, I have not heard back from George Brown yet.

While for Sheridan College, I can tell you that they have been sending out offers as it started giving offers back in May and I got an acceptance into Sheridan College already back on Friday two weeks ago!

Yes, the HOAE test scores do get forwarded to other colleges which you applied to, it was sent to OCAS from what I was told from Sheridan College after completing the HOAE test!

I will keep you posted and you keep me posted too :)!

Hey alexis04,

Thank-you!! And congrats to you too on Sheridan!!

What other schools have you applied to and have you heard back from any others yet?

That's crazy that you got your offer two weeks ago..I'm thinking because you probably did your HOAE test at Sheridan? I did mine at Niagara and I heard right away from them.

I've tried multiple times in the last month to get in touch with someone from George Brown but they never return my messages or emails. The only thing I received from them was saying they got my application and nothing since. I never received anything from them saying HOAE test was required for George Brown..but I did for Niagara and Sheridan.

I guess they haven't received my test results yet because I check daily and it still says "under consideration"..

.not declined so I guess that's a good thing for now?: p

I got a hold from someone at Sheridan and she said offers have begun to go out day by day..but they are doing it in order that they received the test results. I'm assuming they don't work weekends..so maybe Monday they will post something!?!? *fingers crossed*

Is Sheridan the one you plan on going to?

Right now I don't know. Niagara is only giving me until October 9th to accept and I haven't even heard from my other options yet.

I live I'm Hamilton and I considered commuting but I think living close to campus is my best option since I'm expecting the workload to be quite heavy.

I have my own place here and a fulltime job..and I have to make decisions soon and let my landlords know imbleaving etc but I don't know where :s

So there's been a lot on my plate right now I just want to have a plan. Hopefully soon. I'll let you know when I hear

My daughter attends George Brown and she didn't have to write the HOAE.She didn't get accpetance until well into October.

Thank you! I didn't think they required HOAE testing but I really hope they get back to me before October 9 th or that's not really fair :( pay for all your options.. And they make you decide before you hear from them all.

I don't want to decline then find out I didnt get into the others and lose my chance.

What my daughter did was accept the offer from Centennial ( which she didn't really want to go to) in case GB didn't accept her. Then when they did offer her a spot she accepted it.Just because you accept it doesn't mean you have to go there.

Loriangel14,

Ohh I didn't know that!! That makes me feel soooo much better!! I thought I could only accept to one school once and that was it :) that's great news!

Hey FutureNurse18!

Thank you! I hope we all hear back from all the colleges we have applied to! I actually only applied to three colleges for PN - Sheridan, George Brown and Centennial. But so far I have only heard back from Sheridan and recently from Centennial (But haven't received my offer package/email yet).

Indeed I did take the HOAE test at Sheridan since that was the only college which I applied to which required the HOAE test. The test scores aren't released to me until I get it in the mail in January. However, the test scores are submitted to OCAS.

Since you took your HOAE test at Niagara (depending on the date you took it too!), you can always double check on OCAS by clicking on the "Experience" tab and when you're on the tab, you will see "Test Information" and it will list what tests you have taken + the date. If it's on there already that means OCAS have already forwarded your results to other colleges which you have applied to that required the HOAE test, which in this Sheridan college may have already have it on file, but have not got to your application just yet since you said it's still "under consideration"! But don't worry too much :D! If you got into Niagara I'm sure your scores were great so Sheridan would be no problemo for you :D!

Sheridan possibly does that as I know that their office of registry is always busy and takes their time and no they don't work on weekends, Mon-Fri and some days, hours are shortened.

I actually haven't decided where I want to go yet, but I will be visiting the campuses and see which I like the most of all. Also, Sheridan was really my backup if I didn't get into any program as I didn't even know Sheridan had a PN program!

I suggest you to take loriangel14's advice to accept that offer just for now and wait, as it doesn't hurt to cancel Niagara if later you get accepted into Sheridan or George Brown for instance and would rather go there instead! This was what I did with my University application 4 years ago :p

Oh man, commuting sucks, as I have experience that in the last 4 years just from commuting from Georgetown to Toronto it took almost 2 one way (4 hours both ways) . Especially living in Hamilton and commuting to either Niagara, Brampton or Toronto is even longer! Probably it is best to rent a place/ live on campus if you choose to!

Good luck and keep me posted here :)

George Brown has a brand new health sciences campus and it is very nice and easy to commute to if you are living in the city.TTC bus stops right at the door.

Hey alexis04,

I agree, hopefully it's soon that we hear.

I got my HOAE test results in the mail a couple days after I wrote it. I guess every school is different.

I didn't know that about the "experience tab" on OCAS, I'll have to check it out.

I asked a representative from OCAS today and they said the other colleges received my results 3 days after I wrote it, so I guess every school is different.

What did you take in university before? I also did university prior to deciding to go back.

I also did the commute from Hamilton to Toronto in my last year..which wasn't too fun at all! So I think you're right, living close to campus is provably a lot easier.

I will deffinately take her advice and accept Niagara now just to be safe. I didn't know I could do that

I spoke witb OCAS and she said all the other colleges can see once you accept an offer and she doesn't know if that would alter their decision? Either way..its my best bet for now. I'm going to wait it out take your advice and chexk out the campuses and everything should fall into place :)

Loriangel14,

I did read that they redid their campus which is a huge bonus.

How is your daughter liking the program so far?
