Hello everyone!
I'm new to this form as I am trying to get into January 2014's intake in Practical Nursing!
I am pretty nervous since I'm not sure if I will make it this year since I did graduate high school 4 years ago but I did do a victory lap for a year in upgrading my chemistry mark with additional mathematics courses. However in the end I didn't actually go to pursue the science field in University instead I went for a BA in Psychology.
For Practical nursing I have applied to: Sheridan College, George Brown, and Centennial College (Flex); I have already done my HOAE test at Sheridan College as it is an admission requirement for Sheridan, however I was told I wouldn't get my test scores! This is so nerve wrecking!
Also, as I am asking for advice here, I was just wondering if anyone give me some advice/let me know the chances of getting into this program with the following high school marks: 12U English - 70, 12U Chemistry - 89, 12U Adv. Functions- 78, 12U Data Management - 95, 12U Calculus - 88, 11U Bio - 71, 12U Philosophy - 77. GPA in University was a 3.7. I know my high school marks aren't the greatest at all, but any advice/opinion will help relief my stress!
Also anyone here applying for Practical Nursing for January intake :)?
Thank you everyone :)!
Hey vwgirl55!Congratulations on your acceptance to Sheridan College :)!
I was just wondering when did you apply to Seneca and Georgian? When I applied in late-June the PN program at Georgian and Seneca were already closed :/...
I think we are all nervously waiting for a response, so no you're not crazy at all lol! As for George Brown, FutureNurse18 and I are waiting for a response from them too!
Also have you started your pre-placement requirements yet?
Good luck and keep us posted here :)!
Hey Alexis04,
I applied in Jan 2013 to all my schools, I just checked my Georgian admissions account and noticed that they have waitlisted me , my George Brown stu view still says "under consideration" so I am hoping they send me an offer. George Brown is my first choice so I am really hoping I get in there. I did the pre-health program with them and really enjoyed it :)
Hopefully we will all get into GB :)
I mentioned on another board that I recently did my police check and now that I have an offer, I am going to get my immunizations up to date and register for the cps/mask fit. What about yourself??
Hey vwgirl55!
Oh I see, that's why you were able to apply to Georgian and Seneca. I just applied too late and they were closed/waitlisted. Aw, don't give up yet! You never know if others will decline just to give spots to the waitlisted people :)!
We are all waiting for George Brown! Hopefully we hear good news from them ! Did you hear anything back from Seneca yet? Heard it's one popular choice for most people too. That's great to hear you enjoyed their Pre-Health program, a lot of people who took it, in previous threads they said it helped them with the PN program!
Oh, I will have to view it on that board, but I haven't done my police check yet. Probably I will do so next week since I will need to spare some time as it is going to be mailed out to me too, so it will take the longest! What about CPR and First Aid?
Hey Alexis04,
I haven't heard back from Senecca yet . A friend called and was told that they have started sending out offers, so I am sitting and waiting. They would be my 2nd choice if I get in.
I got my cpr and first aid done in the summer. I had also applied for the Sept 2013 entry for George Brown and was wait listed, so I rushed to get a few things done incase a spot opened up. I just need to do my immunizations and the mask fit.
It's good that you are getting started, there's still lots of time, but I feel it will fly by and January will be here before you know it.
Hi guys,
I applied to the Jan 2014 start program for George brown back in febuary so far it says Eligibility Met yes and just today i see that the offer of the status says no decision, i'm a little confused do they mean no decision as in still looking into things? My total average is 81 percent so im not sure if this is high enough. Anyone who gets accepted please let me know. Thank you & good luck to all.
Hey Beauty49,
I think we are all in the same boat, just waiting to hear from George Brown. Apparently they send out their offers in mid October, so we have a few weeks I guess. Hopefully we will all get in :)
Did you apply to any other schools? And if you did, have you heard back from any of them?
No unfortunately i never applied to other schools i live in Toronto so the rpn school's that offer programs in January are limited I live close to Islington station so i knew for me centennial wouldn't be an option. I've heard great reviews about George brown regarding its campus as well their teaching style! Hopefully! We do all get in! :yes:I'm just curious tho in your opinion when would it be appropriate time to start doing the police check etc?
Hey Beauty49,
Regarding the police vulnerable sector check, because you live in Toronto, I would get started on that as soon as you can. Hopefully we will get acceptance letters soon, because as per the Toronto Police Service website, the processing wait times depends on the demand but they list that it can take 8-12 weeks.

I have a friend who started in the Sept session and she advised the police check was due within the first month of school. I think the deadline was Sept 30th. Either way, don't put it off too long :)

Hey vwgirl55!
Aw, I hope you hear back from them soon:), no worries or you can always ask them about your application status.
Oh I see, but now you almost have everything completed then, lucky you! September is usually more competitive more then January, so I guess the wait lists were extremely long :/
Absolutely, I wouldn't want to rush it last minute, for CPR and First Aid, if you don't mind telling me - was the course you took two days long? I am looking for it online and it's two days long each if I am not I have not misunderstood?

Hey beauty49!
It's great to hear that you have also applied to George Brown! The status which you are seeing on your account is the same as what I see, so they are still looking into each application and will start sending out offers in Oct as lyndsbenson asked and told us!
I am not sure neither as my average is the same/ similar to yours. It is really up to how many people applied and the marks they applied with! But look on the bright side and hopefully we all get admitted ! I will let you know once I hear back from them!
Hey Alexis04,
The first aid and CPR course I took was 2 days long. It was the Standard first aid course and the HCP level CPR training. I took it through a company called Firstaid4u, which is associated with the Red Cross. I did it over a weekend, but I think they run evening sessions as well.
Hey vwgirl55,
Thank you so much! For sure i will start immediately i was wondering that too since the it does take weeks to complete it.
