January 2014 Broward College

Published

Welcome.... This is a thread created for January 2014 Broward College students and others who are interested in there ADN program. We all have so many questions and concerns about the program.

We are 7-8 months away from sitting in the first class of the January 2014 nursing program. What have you been doing to prepare for this? What pre-req's do you have left to take? What inspired you to become a nurse? Is BC your first school of chose? Are there any other programs your interested in?

Don't be shy. Don't lurk. Share your thoughts.

My class also change from Thursday to Friday also

What book are we supposed to be reading this from? Fundamentals? Sorry. I didn't get the email either.

I purchased these as my must haves (South Campus student) and via FutureNurseSBrown she has the same central campus student.

**Fundamentals of Nursing (complete set) Perry and Potter 8th Edition

Tabers 22 Edition (some say you don't need it but I bought)

**Davis Drug Guide 13th Edition

**Approaches to Pharmacology (I bought a used one through Amazon $5.00 since I was told my Professor only uses his power points and blueprint to teach)

Davis Comprehensive & Lab & Diagnostic Tests 5th Edition (again I was told I may not use this one, but I bought it anyway.)

Strategies Techniques & Approaches 5th Edition(I bought this one to benefit my critical thinking skills.)

**Dosage Calculations Ratio-Proportion (I got this one for free from a former student now RN)

**Fundamentals Success and Test Success ( I bought through Amazon last year as a guide didn't know I would truly need it)

NCLEX Saunders Comprehensive Review

Lewis; Medical Surgical Nursing ( I bought it through Amazon Book New $94.00 and $7.99 used book 2 chapters written in pencil) I got an awesome deal on that one.

Cox Diagnostic I ordered that one

**Jarvis Head to Toe Physical Assessment.

**Orientation Packet (GET IT NOW!!!!) It has numerous forms to be filled out on 1/6/14. I would hate to see anyone kicked out because the don't have it. :cautious:

Nurse Ethics (I think that just a informative book you can purchase if you want. I did through Amazon $10.00)

**Perry Clinical Techniques 8th Edition (Amazon $49.00)

I purchased these books because I have no financial aid. I purchased most of them through Amazon. I personally feel that I would used them all. For some type of reference or another. Now are they required? Well.... it's on the list to buy, and we won't find out until the 01/6/14 what we should purchase. Atleast the ones with the stars I know we will need the first few days.

I hope that helps.

P.S. I started reading the Test Success and Fundamentals Success. I think you all will find it helpful.

thanks for the help! the bookstore coerced me into buying their box bundle with lots of books. but im returning it because most aren't needed.

So did anyone get emails for south campus?? Ready to start reading those long chapters? Lol...Wow 5 chapters need to be read for clinical by the first day!! I wonder how many chapters need to be read for theory.
