i have been soooo frustrated not getting anything from indy (i even emailed today!). i pretty much figured i was just waiting for a denial...but still wanted to know either way so there was no wondering. so, we had a lot of things going on tonight and we didn't get home until 9pm. i pulled into the driveway and with my headlights, i could see a letter stuck to my front door. i could see ivy tech on the envelope as well. my daughter must've thought i was going crazy because i threw my car into park, ran up to the front door and saw the letter! it was mailed to my old address!!!! the new owners brought it over (i wonder how long they've had it!!!!!) my heart kind of sank b/c i was waiting for a thick envelope...and it was thin. i opened it thinking it was "sorry..." and saw an orientation date. i thought "that's just mean, rubbing it in!" lol!!!!!

i got in!!!!!!!!! whoa...i feel better...just knowing!!!! lol! so...i can now officially stop stalking the mailman (poor mailman! lol!):D

congratulations n2b!!!! it's funny...i haven't even gone to my mailbox once since i got my letter!! free at last!!! are you choosing to go to indy?

Starting Week 6:

M- 8:30-11:20 Med Surg Lab

12:30-3:20 Med Surg

T- 12:30-3:20 Pharm

W- 8:30-10:20 Med Surg Lab

R- Clinical 6:45-3:30

Our first clinical day, they told us to plan to be on site from 7-5 but we were out of there around 3:30.

You will not get to choose any aspect of your own schedule. They have it already planned out as far as sections, etc and you have to take what they give you. Like someone else said, you will either go M-R or T-F.

I'm not sure what 2nd semester is going to look like, but I'm pretty sure we will have 2 clinical days next time.

Hey Mom,

How old are you kids, and how do you work out their schedules with your school? My middle schooler gets on the bus at 7a and then home at 3:30, so she isn't a problem. My 1st and 4th grader get on the bus at 7:55. I'm pretty sure I can make it to campus by 8:30. Are the instructors sticklers for being on time? Would they frown upon being 5-10 min late? I could get a neighbor to get them off to school I suppose. My husband needs to leave for work at 7:30, but can probably go late the days I have clinicals. I have after-care at my elementary school for my little ones. I know I can work this out, but this has been worrying me the most about nursing school. Any helpful tips?:wink2:

Special K,

I'm having the exact same issue! I have a pre-schooler that goes Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9-12 and a first grader that gets on the bus at 8:40 and off at 4:15. She does have before and after school care at her school that I can always use, but it's my pre-schooler that I am having issues with. He also has a chronic illness, so we have to be careful when colds and flu bugs are going around (like keep him home from school as a precaution). My dad said he can help out, but how much?? I'm SO excited for school...but I'm soooo nervous/anxious to get a plan set for them (and I live a good 45 min.-1 hour from the Lawrence campus). Hopefully we both get our kids' care worked out!!!!! :):D

congratulations nurse2b! what torture you had to endure.

thank you!!!!!!!! i know it's silly...but it did seem like torture!!!! lol!

Now that you are in, please don't stress about the schedule, clinicals, etc. I know it's easier said than done but everything really does fall into place. I was terrified to get my schedule and was a nervous wreck for weeks before school started, but somehow it all worked itself out. But, I would enjoy your time off now because you won't have much when you start!!

At the Muncie campus, we were offered night clinicals. There weren't that many spots available but not a lot of people wanted them anyway. Our schedule is different too. The first 5 weeks we had class on Monday & Wednesday from 8a - 4:50p and Thursday & Friday 1p - 4:50p. Now we have class on Mondays & Thursdays 8a-4:50p and clinicals on Tuesday and Wednesday. Clinicals are 7a-3:30p or 3p-11p. I guess every campus is different.

I'm wondering if you offered for night clinicals if you have to stay with night clinicals for the rest of the program time or just this semester. Hmm..

Hey Mom,

Are the instructors sticklers for being on time? Would they frown upon being 5-10 min late?

I don't go to that campus but I know our instructors are strict on being late, especially on exam days or clinicals. If we are late on exam day, we do not get to take it until the end of the day and some will dock points. We can't be late to clinicals at all. They round the time up and you're docked a grade after so many times and you automatically fail.

Are any other campuses like this?

There was no way I was going to be able to dig up all my shot records, so I went to the Dr. today. I got a tetorifice shot, 2 Hepatitis B shots (because they didn't have adult doses so I had to get 2 child shots) I got a TB shot and had to get my blood drawn to show antibodies to DPT, MMR and chicken pox. If I don't have immunity, I have to get those shots too.

OUCH! Tetorifice arm is very sore.

Now I have to find somewhere to get my CPR certificate.
