I beefed up my summer course load and plan to take MAT 118, COM 102, and IVY 104, all online. Anyone else taking these?
Man, so much information on here....thank you to everyone who contributed.
I am a 28 year old guy who is looking at a career change. I am going forward with trying to get stuff done for nursing, but how are the Ivy Tech online classes? I see some of you took ANP and Chem online- what happens to the labs? Is it simulated on the computer- is there no lab? Thanks a bunch everyone!!
I am taking A&P 101 online right now. I can say that there is some lab simulation stuff done on the computer, some videos to watch, and some lab activities done at home as well. I don't have anything to compare it to as far as how it is similar or different from the in-person A&P class. We have had weekly discussion board posts to do which involve some internet research and citing references. A lot of chapter summaries and activities are accessed through Course Compass, as well as additional material to study from such as Interactive Physiology, Anatomy 360, and PAL (Practice Anatomy Lab).
I have not taken Chem online (yet) but I believe it utilizes computer-simulated labs as well.
You know, I wonder if Indy campus would have to fax TEAS scores to Columbus campus or if we just copy the score report? Does anyone know? I thought at Indy's info session they said if we took the TEAS at another campus we had to have the results faxed to them, but each campus seems to have their own rules...ugh. Stressful!!
Prepare yourselves this shall be a long one.
I applied for the LPN and ASN programs today. Have a couple of things for everyone to think about. I was told at my campus here in Anderson that sometimes it is so competitive it comes down to the day and time you turned your apps in. I am usually a last minute person. Read my second sentence. I applied today. LOL!
Ok, so having gotten a B in APHY 101 I knew my chances of getting into the ASN were already lowered. APHY 102 is going better this semster. I feel as if I am actually learning the info this session. I am just sure though that I am still going to end up with a B this semester also. I have been completely stressed about not getting an A this semester. The take I have come up with is.....everything happens for a reason. If I dont get into the ASN I will likely get into the LPN. What is so awful about getting the L then going back for a couple more semesters to complete the ASN? I can get my LPN start working part time or PRN, and finish the other two semesters for ASN. Now me= no stress. I feel like I can enjoy learning in Anatomy now. No pressure.
On the flip side. I have heard several people mention with the economy they cannot afford to not work/need to go ahead and get into the workplace. Therefore more people are applying to the LPN program. This may be beneficial to those of us wanting into the ASN. Maybe if many people need to go ahead and get into the job force they may have the same idea and our ASN chances may go up.
Just a couple things to think about. I have been so worried about getting into the ASN but I have decided that what is supposed to happen for me, just will. No more stress.

I don't understand how they could judge any of us by when we turn in our apps. They are due 4/1, period...Who is recording dates/times? How is that a basis for competitive admission? That shouldn't have anything to do with readiness/worthiness for the program.

I know myself along with some fellow student doubted it all the time, lol! We were like is this what we really want to do, are we sure? But we are, most of us have been working toward this for 2-3 years so bring it on! I am on spring break right now, finishing up my first care plan and am wondering how I am going to get these done when I am in school all week! Ugh! Hang in there, you are not the only one who has thought that! We can do it!!!!
