Ivy Tech Thread

I beefed up my summer course load and plan to take MAT 118, COM 102, and IVY 104, all online. Anyone else taking these?

Took my TEAS today. Needless to say I will be taking it again. I got an 81. Math and Science is what hurt me. I was pretty confident about math too. :o

The Science portion was HORRIBLE. Of the thirty questions I knew less than ten. Off to study.

I thought the math and science portion was pretty brutal myself. Good luck on the next test!!!

I took it twice. The first time I was caught off guard by the math. For me it was almost too easy, I got caught up in double checking my answers, then ran out of time before answering all the questions. I scored real high on the science that time though. So, the second time, I scored good on the math but not near as good on the science. For what it is worth, I think the science is the crap shoot, as far as each test generating questions you know. The math is the place to study, just study the basics, (without a calculator) based on what you learned taking it the first time. To bone up on science is much much harder given the vast scope of the knowledge base they base their questions on. I did study up on the periodic table, that is probably worth studying, it you are rusty on that.

Good luck. By the way, 81 is pretty good, it might get you in. A second try is well worth it though, I would be suprised if you didn't increase it the second time.

Thanks, I love my wife. I did end up with a B in ANP101 so I need an A this semster in 102 and the highest TEAS score I can possibly get. The periodic table was something I put on my list to brush up on. I am also gonna try to get a little more info about isotopes.

i definitely agree that the science portion is a crap shoot. more than anything i felt like some of the science questions were worded like trick questions. really different from the book in my experience *shrug*. I was so upset after finishing the science portion, figuring i had failed, that i did worse than i should have on the last section (grammar). i olnly scored an 82. so i guess ill be taking it over as well. :banghead:

Hey all! I am trying to decide whether to take HLHS 101 before my ANP 101 or to take them at the same time----- any opinions?

thanks!

Those of you in the ASN program:

I have a question about how long it is taking you to get through. I am second semester ASN, and will be done with Mat-Child, Med-Surg 2, and Healthcare Concepts this semester. So, that only leaves Complex Med-Surg lecture & clinical, Psych Nursing lecture & clinical, and Nursing Care of the Complex Family lecture & clinical. My question is, are all these taken in one semester? I was hoping to graduate in December, as I will be done with all co-reqs after this summer. It's like pulling teeth getting an answer from my nursing dept about anything and figured you guys would be more helpful than them. What have the rest of you been told? As I understand Complex Family and Psych are only 8 week classes, and Complex Med-Surg is 16 weeks. So I am hoping to knock all these out in the fall, and am going to be very disappointed if that is not possible. Thanks in advance!

There are 4 semesters total for the ASN program. After your second semester there is still 14 credit hours left and they don't have you take all 14 credit hours in one semester. So unless you take courses over the summer, you will not graduate in December. It will have to be in May 2010. Which campus are you at?

They are split up over the next two semesters, so if you are 2nd semester ASN now, you will graduate in May of 10. UNLESS you are at Indy and take the Summer ASN semester that they just offered up to us. If you choose the summer option, you will graduate either 8 weeks or 12 weeks early, depending on which class you get for summer. We don't get to choose.....they just say Ok....you are taking such and such class at such and such time.

I had Complex Family & Psych 3rd semester & Complex Med/Surg final semester.

At my school all ASN's finish in May (unless you have to repeat something).

You either do Fall, Spring, Fall, Spring or Spring, Summer, Fall, Spring.

Thanks everyone for your responses. I'm at the Gary campus, and they still aren't sure if they will have any summer classes for us. I heard they might offer Psych over the summer, then I would just have Complex Med-Surg, and Complex Family in the fall. They told us that the program could be done in 3 semesters if you had all your co-reqs done, that's why I am confused about what is taken during the last semester. When I pull up the schedule of classes from last fall it shows that Psych and Complex Family are only for 8 weeks. So even though the last semester would be 14 credit hours, technically I would only be taking 2 classes at a time. So, who knows. I guess I'll have to keep my fingers crossed that they offer Psych to us or if there is some way to take all those in the last semester, because I really had hopes for a December graduation. Plus they did say it could be done in 3 semesters. Thanks again, and good luck to everyone!

That's not possible to be done in Dec. Med Surg 3 is taught in 16 weeks and the Complex family/Psych is taught together in one semester, 8 weeks each. There is no way you can fit it all in one semester due to the clinical requirements.
