Ivy Tech Thread- NOT in program yet (taking pre-reqs)

Published

I was wondering if there would be interest in starting an Ivy Tech thread for those not in any program yet, for those still working on Pre-reqs.

I am taking anp102 in the fall in BLoomington, Tech writing online, plan on taking my Teas sometime soon. Going to apply to several campuses for the ASN program.

They have added Intro to Chem and changed the Math pre-reqs now for Ivy Tech ASN as of Fall 08. They are going to grandfather Math 111 for a few semesters supposedly.

Well I had my Bloomington Anp 102 class today. UGHH! I can't believe it but I think I prefer to take ANP @ lawrence. You have to know tons of stuff there but at least you KNOW what you have to learn. Our lab tonight was just kind of a learn-it-yourself Study Hall. We weren't TAUGHT or shown a single thing. The models were sitting around and you just had to teach yourself. @ Lawrence the instructor points the different things out on the models so you know where to find them, and what they are called. Not in this class. you figure it all out yourself. The final is all bonus points though. so that is helpful. I am going to have to bust my butt big time this semester!

I am stressing now! Crapola!

how is everyone else doing in class????

I had anp today for the first time. I think I will really like my teacher, and I have to say that the student outline is VERY helpful! I have a good feeling about the class...although I am very overwhelmed. There are about 60 students in my class, and I am used to like 20 max! (I went to a parochial school) I started in on some vocab tonight and copied my notes onto my outline. Tomorrow I have lab, so that should be pretty interesting. We are learning all of the sectional/directional names of the body, so I am sure that will be a super exciting thing to learn  Seems that all the slides are on blackboard as well, and plus they have podcasts (DOUBLE YAY) so I think I will have some great study material. I have no idea how to get a study group started though...

Waited an hour and a half in the line for the bookstore today to get my student outline...and ended up buying my com book while I was there anyway, just to get started on it. NOT doing that again!

Best news, I didn't get lost at lawrence!

Did you have JB ?

If so...he is my fav instructor ever!

We don't get a student outline in my new class. :bluecry1:

sorry to double post...

but with Lawrence, the library was always really hot so i would study at that pizza place. I would go early on test days, sit in the back by the windows and study! loved it!

Its for COM 102. I already have my MAT 118 book, but I could most definitely use the communications book! Its showing the picture of the looking in/looking out book and I just don't want to have to spend more money. There are a total of 5 papers, 3 on movies- so I am not too worried, and 2 other ones. The first one is intercultural so I actually have to go out and interact with someone of another culture, which I think will be neat. As for the movie papers, for one I get to watch The Notebook again so I won't complain! I just got your PM, I will message you back!

I just got back to you so sorry!!!! LMK how I can help!

Had my first ANP 101 lecture/lab last night. I have JB for lecture, and I adore him. I also LOVE love love that outline they made us, it's fantastic. Since we skip so much of the book it really helps me figure out what I need to read and what I can skip. For lab I have the group that got the other teacher, who is not JB, they split us into two rooms and of course he can only teach one. So bummed about that. The other guy is okay but I honestly kind of worried about it, he seemed very unprepared and just kind of like a joker.

I brought a flash drive but I couldn't get logged into the computers in the lab!! Are there special log in names/passwords for those? I really want all that stuff on there, we don't have those things on our blackboard. Can anyone help?? Please!!

Hope everyone's doing okay...gosh it's a lot to juggle with school, working full time, and family! This board is really helpful!

For the computers, they just switched everything over and we have to use our Campus Connect log-ins to get on the computers now. I saw directions on campus connect to set it all up but I can't remember where it is now. (They can help you in the library though!)

That's what I was using...so frustrating!!!!!! I have no idea why it wasn't working...am going to go search Campus Connect...

See, they don't have computers in our lab...that's so weird! All I was told is that they are all online on blackboard. The slides are the lecture slides correct?

I had my first lab today with a different teacher too, AG, and she is GREAT. I absolutely love her. She is fantastic at telling us exactly what we need to know! She even moves ahead too so we have more time to start working on things before exams.

I got a study group started today with the girls I sat with in lab. One girl has already taken APHY 101, 102 and micro...I was like hmm I will sit with you! They are all really nice though. I think we are going to try to get together Fridays, Melissa if you are interested you are more than welcome to come with me! I'll email you back later, but I am okay on the communications book, I broke down and bought one yesterday during my lifelong wait in the bookstore.

On the 2nd floor, next door to the ANP instructor's office....there is a computer lab there especially for the ANP students They keep all the sides from lab and practice tests on those computers. If you take a flash drive, you can save all the pictures and look at them at home. This was for 102. I didn't take 101 at Indy, so I'm not sure how they do things for that class. I'm assuming it's the same?

But they are the same slides from lecture right? I'll have to find the office though just in case. I need to buy a darn flash drive!

The slides aren't from lecture but from Lab. ( i didnt know there was a lab next to the office with computer practice tests...darn!! I missed out on that!! good to know !! I'll pass that along!! thanks!)

Every week in lab you will learn about tissues and such (whatever chapter you are on, you especially using them when you learn about tissues, skin etc) and there will be slides/pictures that you will view. these slides are what your actual test will be over- the EXACT same slides. the difference being that the names are whited out. we had computers in our lab room and JB told us that we could download all of the slides..in fact, he recommended it. They are pictures of the actual models in class, tissues, bones etc. it is REALLY helpful. For tissues, I actually printed off tiny pics of each tissue we had to know and made notecards of them. I got a 100% on that test by doing that. that test was SOOO easy because I did that.

If you have JB for lecture and NOT lab, just ask him after your lecture if you can get download the lab slides. he is really helpful. and he really helps you out on your tests!! he'll tell you what is ALWAYS on the test and he'll tell you what is NEVER on the test.

when you get to the end of the year, I have a great way to remember the cranial nerves. remember to ask me! I don't want to overload you yet since you just started.
