U.S.A. Indiana

Published

I was wondering if there would be interest in starting an Ivy Tech thread for those not in any program yet, for those still working on Pre-reqs.

I am taking anp102 in the fall in BLoomington, Tech writing online, plan on taking my Teas sometime soon. Going to apply to several campuses for the ASN program.

They have added Intro to Chem and changed the Math pre-reqs now for Ivy Tech ASN as of Fall 08. They are going to grandfather Math 111 for a few semesters supposedly.

Thanks, did you just go to the campus to sign up for the online classes?

I'm going to go back to the campus tomorrow and I'm NOT leaving until I have this all clear in my mind. It's all been so frustrating so far not knowing where to begin and speaking to an advisor that made me feel like I shouldn't even be thinking about the nursing program. I felt about 2 inches tall after I left...

I'm not totally stupid, but I'm very green about all of this and to be honest it all sounds like Greek to me! (LOL)

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

I went to an advisor Fall 07 when I started to sign up for my first online class, Psych 101 which was my only class that semester. I've done everything else online on my own since that. I'm somewhat lucky in that I graduated from IU a few years ago also, so that took care of some of my credits already and I did my own advising when I was there too. But I'm kind of a HUGE planning and organizing nerd :)

lol, i hear that i'm the same way about planning and organizing. i guess that's why this is really getting to me because i have no way to plan without knowing what to do first with these classes. i just keep going around and around on this ride and i'm getting a bit dizzy :chuckle:chuckle

i.t has been little or no help at all  i have more questions now than i did before! ahhhhh!! :chuckle:eek:

ps...it's awesome you already had iu for some of those credits :yeah::yeah:

I can give you advice about ANP at lawrence b/c I just did it last spring and got an A. I have lots of tips for you.

I had JB for ANP 101 @ lawrence. He is FANTASTIC! He is willing to really help you out and answer questions. I would always stay after for Lab and go over stuff with him. We always got out early during Lab.

TIPS:

You guys will have these "questions of the week". Be sure to sign up for the ANP 101 Group on campus connect. You will get your questions there. They are also posted in the hallway. These questions are ALWAYS on your test. You'll get five a week. Your instructor will tell you where to find it on your first day of class.

There is a lady (PM me and I'll give you her name and I have her email address) who teaches a Lab at Lawrence. She holds a Test Review on Saturdays before your tests. Cost is $10 at the Lawrence Campus. SHe goes over the important things that will be on your test, and tells you stuff that isn't usually on them. she has silly little ways to remember stuff. I found it to be very helpful.

For Lab- take a flash drive. You can upload all of the lab slides. they are the ones on your lab test so as long as you know them, you will be fine. I did this and only missed a total of 4 lab questions all semester long.

I didn't have Evans but I've heard he is ok. There is another guy who teaches and he writes the tests. he likes to put tricky stuff on there.

Also, we got to look at a Cadaver towards the end of the semester.

There are lots of great helpful websites that really help you with ANp 101.

They are:

http://www.gwc.maricopa.edu/home_pages/crimando/Tutorial_Big.htm

and

http://www.getbodysmart.com/index.htm

if there is anything else I can help you with, let me know!!

Oh yeah....for ENGLISH 111, I never even used my book!

The girl I bought my anp books from told me the same thing! SN is the one who writes the tests...I originally had him and for some reason they changed my teacher, so I cannot complain. The flash drive, there is computer access there? I need to buy a flash tonight...I haven't even bought my laptop yet!

I'm very excited about the cadaver. I just think that's the neatest thing (I am also the weird one who really wants to see the Bodies Exhibition downtown because I think it would be a great learning experience lol).

How many papers did you write in 111? I switched mine from face to face, to online to help with my daycare costs...It doesn't start for about a month, but I will be going on vacation in October so I want to be prepared! Thank you SO much for your help.

Does anyone know what classes are available online for Bloomington Ivy Tech? This is all so new to me and truth be told, I have no clue where I need to start. I'm so green at this it isn't even funny :banghead:

I did go to Ivy Tech last week, but this was never brought up by one of the advisors, and since I'm not too sure about the programs I didn't even know to ask. It wasn't until I found this thread I knew about Ivy Tech having pre-requites available online.... I feel so stupid right now! :selfbonk:

I've been out of school for many, many years....Since 1980, so if anyone has information that would be helpful to me, I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm just scratching my head at this point, not really knowing where I need to begin...:(

Thanks! :heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

Have you already registered? Is this your first semester back in school?

If you already registered with a student advisor, you should be able to complete anything and everything online from now on. There is an option on CC to add/drop classes and you can search by class, course, campus, instructional method etc. It will show you what classes are offered. You ALSO do not have to take online classes through Bloomington only. I go to the campus in Indianapolis and will be taking more online classes through Gary, Lafayette, and one other location.

If you HAVEN'T registered and this is your first semester I believe ou must register in person first.

They gave me a book specifically on distance ed classes, what was offered through all campuses. It was helpful. If you need any help feel free to PM me! Last semester was my first semester but I have caught on to everything pretty quick!

Oh wow, thank you for the information. That really helped a lot :yeah::yeah: YIPPEE!!!!

I'm going to Ivy Tech tomorrow and I'll then register. I feel a lot better knowing I can do some of these classes online.

Gosh, it's amazing how much you can learn from people in the program vs information Ivy T gives you!!!

Thank you so much you guys! You've been such a BIG help to me! :redpinkhe:redpinkhe:redpinkhe

They have computers in the ANP Lab classroom. You download the lab slides from that computer.

JB was really cool and would scan our tests in the short break between Lecture and Lab. After our Lab tests, we could use the computers in the room and already see our Lecture test scores! He is really awesome. He would have our Lab test scores up the next day.

Yeah, Get a flash drive for sure. We were able to get the lab slides for the entire semester the very first week.

Anyone know when registration for the spring semester opens? I am ready to get that figured out too!

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

I didn't have to take the Compass test since I have a degree from IU already, so that was nice. I don't think that Spring 09 will be up for registration for probably 2-3 more months. I wish they'd let us see some of the class times and stuff though, so I can see if I need to take them online or not.

I took Eng 111 online and I had to write 4 papers total. I had E. Starr for my online professor and she was really good I thought.

You are the BEST! I ran out tonight and got a flash drive, never even would have thought of that!! ANYTHING you can think of would be WONDERFUL!!!! Thank you so much already for your suggestions, I will definitely be using them all!! What a wonderful resource you are!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!:bow::bow:

Aww! Your welcome! I am just trying to help out. I was determined to get an A in that class! If you have any questions feel free to PM me as the semester goes along.

I heard that ANP in bloomington was easier, and my friend said that final in 101 was ALL bonus points! SO....i am taking 102 in Bloomington even though it is an hour drive. I figure it can't be any harder than the lawrence campus because I heard the professor that teaches nights at Lawrence, Reinken, is a total jerk. Have heard that from about 10 diff people! and he has terrible reviews on ratemyproffessor.

I heard that the greencastle campus is building a brand new building and that they are going to have childcare for students in class. Don't know if that is fact or fiction but someone who attends that campus told me. that would be GREAT!

QUESTION FOR ALL:

does anyone know when the nursing information sessions are for the Columbus Campus? i can't find it online anywhere. I need to attend one of those.

TEAS:

I am REALLY super nervous about the teas. I stink at chemistry. I heard that is the kicker on it. yuck!

OH YEAH, I FORGOT:

ANP 101 @ lawrence --> you have quizzes every week. these are *always* on the tests. so remember them!

Dude I will totally drive out to Greencastle if that's the case. That would help me out immensely.
