Ivy Tech Thread- NOT in program yet (taking pre-reqs)

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

I was wondering if there would be interest in starting an Ivy Tech thread for those not in any program yet, for those still working on Pre-reqs.

I am taking anp102 in the fall in BLoomington, Tech writing online, plan on taking my Teas sometime soon. Going to apply to several campuses for the ASN program.

They have added Intro to Chem and changed the Math pre-reqs now for Ivy Tech ASN as of Fall 08. They are going to grandfather Math 111 for a few semesters supposedly.

new pre-reqs from Campus Connect:

Bloomington has a few different ANP teachers. Some are easy and some are incredibly difficult. The set up for our exams was 3 lecture exams over 4 chapters each. Then we had to take a cumulative final over the lectures from all 12 chapters (made by the hardest teacher, there was stuff on there that most people never studied) but that was in fact extra credit. It was required to take, but it was still pure extra credit. We had 2 lab exams and several lab quizzes as well.

I took 102 online through Terre Haute. We had 2 lecture exams which were open book, and a cumulative midterm and cumulative final exam that were both proctored. The final exam, if you do not score a 65% or higher, you FAIL THE CLASS, no ifs ands or buts. There was also a lab quiz every week and a discussion board every week as well.

How did you like 102 online? Did it help to take 101 face to face first? I am trying to work out my spring semester in the "easiest" way possible. I wasn't planning on taking 3 online classes this semester, but unfortunately my money supply isn't endless and daycare was killing me!

On another note- I have been looking into applying at area hospitals to try to get a better shift, as well as getting a little experience in the process...unfortunately other than housekeeping or laundry there isn't much to choose from. Now, if they paid me the same I make now I could do it! I was looking into the unit secretary position but I know I wouldn't be able to get on until taking med term at least, which I will probably take next semester.

IvyIndy- thanks so much for starting this thread...I think it will really help me out this semester!

I had a horrific time with 102 online. I'm sure part of it was that I took it during the summer, instead of a full length semester. That sort of breakneck pace is just too much for a class as important as this. During a regular semester though, I bet it would have been a lot better. I don't feel like I learned as much as I could have, though I did get an A, barely. I would recommend taking it on campus if at all possible. It was really hard for me to teach myself the whole semester and not really have anyone to ask questions of.

Also, the class was basically physiology only, I think I had MAYBE 5 questions all semester that were identifying or labeling like the anatomy side of things. I did like the at home labs on the computer, but there was no way to tell if some of my answers were correct or not. I had to order a pig, but I made it through without opening the pig honestly. All of the exams were just randomly picked from a test question database so there was no "study sheet" or anything like that. You had to just study literally everything, you couldn't concentrate on any one part because there was nothing to guide you in that manner.

That was the only thing I hated about Psych online was that you were pretty much stuck studying every single thing in the book, and with chapters that are 35 pages long each that was hard to do! I spent a lot of time studying where the parts of the brain were located, only to find out they weren't even on the test. Thanks for the input...I will definitely take 102 on campus as well.

does anyone know the dates of the columbus nursing info session, or who I contact to find out when they are?

The only number I can find for Columbus is the 800 number but It says to give your 4 extension you are trying to reach.

no info on their website about it.

I am going to try to attend the Info session @ greencastle next month, will let you know about the babysitting thing. If they don't mention it, I'll ask.

Hey- found the answer to my own question. sharing it w/ everyone.

The columbus nursing info session: they don't have their schedule out yet but as long as you attend one in that region, you are fine. There is one this friday @ the new Franklin campus from 2-5.

I've been told by a student that if you attend the columbus campus you can do clinicals @ Franklin hospital. will verify that at their info session.

Just freakin wonderful. My classes are on blackboard...but of course the book that it says is required is NOT the same one the bookstore said was. I'm so peeved...

I have like 5 or 6 papers to write too! There are no due dates on the syllabus or anything...I hope this isn't a preview of what to expect this semester.

Now I have to buy another book probably...and be screwed with the one I have.

kgle what class is this for? if it's for M118 or COM 102 PLMK if I have the book you are welcome to borrow mine, I took both over the summer. My math book has a cow on the front and the COM 102 book is called looking in/looking out. Don't freak about the papers in COM 102, aren't they just movie papers? they are super short and very easy, i am happy to help with anything you need. And I think you asked abuot M118, no, it's not as bad as it seems when you first get the book, i was freaking out, too. I pm

ed you about the math class, hope it helps.

The on campus bookstore gave me the wrong Micro book, and another girl in my class the wrong one as well. And the thing is, the two of us even got different books from each other! Check with your teacher before you do anything, just in case!

I went to the BLoomington Info session today. they said that 40 students get in ASN program for Fall, 10 get in for SPring. Lowest accepted out of 225 applicants had all A's and an 84 on the Teas.

There was an instructor who held a FREE teas prep course but last year only 5 attended each time out of the 50 that signed up. He got mad and quit doing them. The nursing lady told me this. DARN i wanted to do that prep course!

tomorrow is my 1st anp2 in Bloomington. The final is bonus points so that it good. even if it is hard, there certainly were no bonus points AT ALL at lawrence. so i feel good about that!

Its for COM 102. I already have my MAT 118 book, but I could most definitely use the communications book! Its showing the picture of the looking in/looking out book and I just don't want to have to spend more money. There are a total of 5 papers, 3 on movies- so I am not too worried, and 2 other ones. The first one is intercultural so I actually have to go out and interact with someone of another culture, which I think will be neat. As for the movie papers, for one I get to watch The Notebook again so I won't complain! I just got your PM, I will message you back!

UGH...its terrible this year. I have been hearing horrible things about IT...but it wasn't this bad last semester by far. I didn't have any issues! I tried contacting eFollett all day today and of course either the message came on saying they were busy, or I got a busy signal.

If anyone is interested in maybe a book loaning tree (or whatever you wanna call it haha) I would be up for it. Maybe that will help us all out on costs!
