Ivy Tech Thread- NOT in program yet (taking pre-reqs)

Published

I was wondering if there would be interest in starting an Ivy Tech thread for those not in any program yet, for those still working on Pre-reqs.

I am taking anp102 in the fall in BLoomington, Tech writing online, plan on taking my Teas sometime soon. Going to apply to several campuses for the ASN program.

They have added Intro to Chem and changed the Math pre-reqs now for Ivy Tech ASN as of Fall 08. They are going to grandfather Math 111 for a few semesters supposedly.

Speaking of Aphy... Has anyone here successfully (gotten an A) taken 102 in the summer? I did OK in the Spring with 101 in Indy and thought that I would be able to handle the expedited version. I am starting to have some doubts about my abilities now that it is a few courses in and am looking for some feedback. Anyone try it?

MistyMiss,

I can't speak to the summer session for ANP102, but I can certainly share my key to success this Spring. (Indy) It was utilizing every open lab I could drag myself to! I found the "dynamics" of 102 FAR different from 101, and fortunately learned the benefit of open labs early in the semester. Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions.

Thanks a bunch for the replies, I think I am going to tough it out and hope for the best. I have enrolled in the class again in the fall if worse comes to worse, but I sure hope it doesn't come to that. Open lab, here I come! :)

Open lab, here I come! :)

Or the determination to overcome the "dynamics" ;)

Thanks again!

just curious, was this semester going to be your first at ivy tech? If so, you would have qualified for aid for the summer I would think. I did last year.

So its looking like my fall schedule is PSYC 201, ENGL 111 (retaking), CINS 101 (retaking due to not having a software program bleh), and idk what else. I was going to take Spanish I. Anyone taken that? Any other suggestions for a nice light fluff class? I was thinking keyboarding...but I am really leaning towards spanish right now.

I really REALLY want to take Spanish!! I don't know when I'll be able to fit that in though. maybe next summer. If not, then DEFINITELY after I graduate. I will be taking it at one point.

I really want to take a few years of it...I think it would be a HUGE help in the workplace.

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

I would highly recommend learning Spanish. It's a great language and it's really pretty easy to learn, not nearly as irregular as English is. And yes, depending on where you live, it will come in handy so much!

I have a BA in Spanish and I hope to get certified as a Spanish medical translator once I'm finally a nurse :)

Yeah I took 2 1/2 years of Spanish in high school and had no problems at all. I would love to take more of it in college just to be able to have a minimal conversation if needed. Its always a plus!

My Counselor at that other school across town strongly reccomended a course Spanish For The Medical Professional. Dunno if Ivy's got it or is planning on getting it, but it sounds like a Must Learn even if there are no credit-hours involved.

Hi,

I am seeking to get in some pre reqs and my online search brought me here to allnurses. I am a returning student and would like to take my first semester back totally online. Has anyone taken ANP online? I am trying to make sense of these courses online.. it says totally online.. but how do we do the labs? Would anyone be willing to share what online ANP was like? The other courses I am considering are Med. Law and Ethics, Med Terminology, and Intro to Health Careers-- all online. Feedback would be greatly valued at this point in time. A bit of background.. I am a mom of 5 children. My husband is home and runs an online business, but is available to help as I need it. although it is limited due to his health restrictions with rheumatoid and osteoarthritis. We homeschool our school age children, and I am also a Doula and CBE in my "spare time":heartbeat I am hoping these courses would help in my pre reqs/study hours for midwifery school as much as entry into a nursing program in the future, IYKWIM. I know this will be hard work and with mommy brain, I am wondering.. is this do-able? Campus courses are not realistic this fall b/c my husband will be having his second hip replacement surgery and I NEED to be here at home. I was really hoping to take a Women's Studies course on campus locally...I hope they offer it in the spring!:lol2: Soooo anyone totally online who has taken the courses I have listed, successfully?? Could you share what online but Lecture/Lab means for me in terms of ...will I need to visit the campus?? Is there any way to do whatever labs are needed at the local campus rather than traveling ... and will I need to purchase a microscope? I found some ANP kids online at http://www.labpaq.com/students-order Is this where Ivy Tech ANP items are ordered? I am so curious.. I want to know it all, LOL...:lol2:

Okay...more questions later I suppose:yawn:
