Ivy Tech TEAS and APHY 201 ?

I know there are a ton of TEAS support threads and I'm so grateful for them, but I am seriously freaking out. This should be a simple academic skills test right? I earned A's in all 4 pre reqs and now my entire future is resting on this darn test (drama queen, I know). The more practice skills assesments I take online, the worse I do! I bought the ATI manual and online test and did OK in Reading, Spelling and Math (80's or 90's) but Science I got a 45% in! I'm trying to "study" but how do you relearn your entire elementary education in a week or two? Then I went to the test preview website and took the vocab section questions - my lord those don't even make sense to me. I know I'm not dumb, but I don't do well on tests and since I can only take this test 3x ever, I don't know how to calm down about it. Wisdom and advice please

If I didn't work on Saturdays, I definitely would have taken that one. Good luck on the TEAS! Let us know how you do. You will be fine :)

Hi melissa2012

I would be interested in your opinion of the Morrison study material. I bought it and looked it over. I gained a few things. I guess it is worth the money if it puts me over on the test. The material in my opinion is definitely not a night/day eye opener of information. quote]

I thought the Morrison manual was okay. To be completely honest I have only flipped through the science section so far, a little bit of math. I would probably not have purchased it, but it was available at our local library, as was the ATI manual, so I checked both out there. Monday I took the TEAS for the first time and did okay but not as well as I'd hoped. I did not study before I went, but I felt rushed to hurry up and take it once so that I could do three times before the April 1 deadline. That was pretty stupid, I know. I will retest at the end of February and hopefully bring my score up. I plan to go over the study guides, plus do some additional reviewing on every topic there is since lords knows what will pop up.

I don't mean to be a drama queen, but I've got a 4.0 GPA and am afraid I could throw away my chance at getting into the program by not doing damn near perfectly on the TEAS. Urgh.

I used a science GED book and it really helped. The science portion is all over the place on that test. Good Luck.

I bought the Morrison flash cards and a few of them are helpful, but really the information was more complex than what was needed to know for the TEAS.

UP-DATE; I passed the TEAS yesterday. I achieved an overall of 80%. The English brought me way down, I slid in with a 70.9%. I found this site for English review and practice. http://www.smic.be/smic5022/exercisesgrammar.htm

I also got an 80. I was so worried about science and it was English that brought me down too!!!!! darn it!!!

thanks for the website, will check it out!

Well that's good! Congrats to both of you for passing. What score do you want to try to get to apply with?

Thanks for the link!

I'm going to retake the test this upcoming Wednesday. I really need to get some math, physics, and punctuation practice time in!

Hi everyone. I'm new to this site, but just thought I'd give my input on the TEAS. I took it yesterday for the first time and got a 90% overall. I'm happy with that and don't think I'm going to take it again. I highly recommend taking the online practice test through ATI, even though its $30. It really let me know what areas I needed to study. I used a combination of the ATI study guide and the Kaplan book to help me prepare. I think it was worth the effort.

Also, does anyone know what kind of point totals it takes to get into Ivy Tech's RN program? They were a bit reluctant to tell us this in our mandatory orientation/information session.

I'm curious to know that too, Circe. Great job on the TEAS

The rumors I hear say: Mid 80s TEAS score is upper range. There are scores in the 90s, that are rather scarce. Low 80s and high 70s is the norm. I may re-take the TEAS March 24 to improve my score. Now that the pressure is off I may be able to do better. I always go the extra mile. The English is my weak spot. I score high on un-timed practice. The TEAS has the first 15 questions in paragraph format. I had to scroll up and down 4 times for each question, looking at the underlined problem then back down at potential answers. I have trouble identifying the problem to correct. Verb problems or punctuation. During a practice, I am focused on one area at a time. I know to look for punctuation solely or verb tense solely. The mini- sentences are easier., also the sentences asking for a synonym for the underlined word. The test is formatted assuming the test taker is more experienced linguist troubleshooter. I will stop whining now.

I initially was freaking out on the science..... I figured out how to do that section, also the Math section. I scored an even 80 on both of those. The reading I scored a 95.

Thanks MasonsMommy! I was happy with my score, but one of my friends thinks I should take it again to see if I can improve my score. I told her she was crazy.

I've got 3 A's in my prereq's + my 90. I'm carrying an A in my last prereq. right now. At the very worst, I'll get a B. We also get 3 points for living in the region we are applying. So I'm looking at 213 if I get an A, or 203 if I get a B. If I can't get in with those points, then I suppose it wasn't meant to be. My cousin, who has worked her way up from an LPN to an FNP-C, said to apply for both RN and LPN programs. Surely with my scores, one of the two programs will accept me.

samulation: Good luck with your next attempt. Some of the English threw me on the test too. The scrolling up and down on the reading and English sections was really annoying! I don't know about your test, but my English section had an overkill of correct comma usage. Anyway, best of luck to you.
