Ivy Tech Spring '10 Applicants

Published

This is the "Not In" thread, or for anyone that's planning on applying for Spring Semester by the Sept 1st deadline.

We need love too! :loveya:

My Boring Stats:

A's in prereq's except ANP 2...taking that class now.

Horribly embarrassing TEAS at 76, still have two more tries. (Which is why I'm taking math and phys sci this summer. lol)

Hope to get into the Bloomington or Terre Haute programs. (Yay! Greene county gets region pts at both. lol)

Currently frazzling myself out with 5 online classes

It's nice to meet you....whoever you are....

I have a neighbor who graduated last year. . . but I wonder if it would be a better idea to have someone currently in the program.

About the Facebook group for the student nurse association. . . I didn't join today at the orientation because I figured I would just do it at home. Well, whenever I search for it, I just get a blank page with the little indicator that it is 'searching' or working (the blue circle that spins) but it never goes anywhere or shows any results. Grrrrrr.

You are right Chris, it was lab. Here is a link to the SNA Facebook.

MistyMiss,

Yes, I am wiped too. Thanks Chris about dosage calc info...good to know not to be afraid of it cause I was super freaked out about it and bummed about missing the session today. If you can sign up to go to simulation lab session next week, it's really neat to see. She said this was the 1st semester of having a simulation lab. It's dummies in hospital beds and they talk, breath, vomit, rapid/slow heartbeat, can draw blood, etc... and we have to figure out what to do for the patient when we get assigned to do one of these labs. It was so very cool! Looking forward to getting to know you all in person. Today was kinda hard to take time and chat for very long with all the moving around we did and different groups. I signed up for the mentor because I can use all the advice just going into this program. I'm hoping to find it very helpful and encouraging.

Specializes in Neurology.

I hope we are still able to sign up for a mentor, I completely forgot about it. It will be nice to be able to get some advice from a peer-mentor from time to time!

BTW- If anyone is interested, the Nurs 101 (Lab) and 102 group showed up in "my organizations" on Blackboard. Our assignments, syllabus etc. are posted within it.

You'll be able to sign up for mentor. Your fundamentals instructor will bring it up, don't worry. =)

IndyIvy--how strict are they about the uniform being 'pressed'?? Do you iron your tops every time you wash them, or your pants? I thought they came out of the laundry looking pretty good without ironing, but they are not 'crisply ironed' looking. I'm going to hate this if we have to iron everything all the time. I HATE ironing. I might have to get a little steamer.

Oh also IndyIvy, is the smaller Carpenito book for taking to clinical called "Handbook of Nursing Diagnosis", the 13th edition? In the syllabus for Nu 101 Lab that we got yesterday, it says it is the 12th edition, but I got a 13th. Also, in that syllabus, it says the Fundamentals textbook is 7th edition 2008, but the blue sheet we got at first orientation says 6th edition 2008. I think that the syllabus must be wrong because I don't find a 7th edition available anywhere. I have the 6th ed.

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

I'm at Bloomington, not Indy, but I never ironed my uniforms. As soon as they finished in the dryer I just hung them up right away. No one ever had a problem with this so that's what I'll continue to do!

I can't believe you guys are almost there! I'm excited for you! :)

Thanks Lennon! So how did the first semester turn out for you, all A's?

All As except for a B in clinical because my teacher said flat out that she did not believe that a first semester student could earn an A in clinical. Unfortunately, this was the case with most of the clinical teachers at Bloomington and almost no one got an A from any teacher. Not that I'm bitter about this or anything...

No matter Lennon. You are on your way to being an awesome nurse! But I can understand how that would make you bitter.

Finally got some white shoes. Easy Spirit lace-up athletic/walking shoes. All ready to go now except for a different watch I might get some day. I have a watch with a second hand, but it is a 'bracelet' style that just opens wide enough to get it on your wrist but it doesn't clasp securely shut or anything. It has been known to catch on things and fall off my wrist, so I probably will end up getting one with a regular band so as not to plunk a patient in the head with a watch falling off.

Quick question for everyone. I know most of you are attending the Indy campus and/or surrounding areas, but I am sure our books are somewhat similiar. I have Fundamentals lab on Monday. What books are you taking to your lab classes? I know for sure we will need Taylor's Clinical Nursing skills (at least at my campus we will). Are any of you taking your Fundamentals of Nursing or Calculate with Confidence book? I believe those two books were for Fundamentals class at my campus, but I just want to make sure I am prepared in case other books are referenced.

Also, if you had to purchase the medical dictionary, lab and diagnostics tests, and drug guide book, which classes are you taking them to? I went out and purchased a really big and roomy backpack that was originally $55, but on sale for $47. However, even with just three of my books it's getting heavy. Just wanted to get ideas on what books to bring, at least for the first day.

Thanks in advance. The first day is just around the corner!
