Ivy Tech Spring '10 Applicants

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

This is the "Not In" thread, or for anyone that's planning on applying for Spring Semester by the Sept 1st deadline.

We need love too! :loveya:

My Boring Stats:

A's in prereq's except ANP 2...taking that class now.

Horribly embarrassing TEAS at 76, still have two more tries. (Which is why I'm taking math and phys sci this summer. lol)

Hope to get into the Bloomington or Terre Haute programs. (Yay! Greene county gets region pts at both. lol)

Currently frazzling myself out with 5 online classes

It's nice to meet you....whoever you are....

I was telling my wife today I am so nervous. I can't remember being this nervous over anything for a long long time. I am very worried about fitting in with a younger crowd of the opposite sex.

carlos, there are going to be plenty of us 'older' crowd of the opposite gender around lol--and of your same gender as well! (okay, yes, a lot more women but there were quite a few men at the first orientation.)

you know what i look like and i sorta remember you, so find me tomorrow. hopefully i'll have found annie and kim (mistymiss). anyone else want to let us know what you will be wearing tomorrow lol? karen (crazylife), leen, chwalden (catherine), sunny, jm625?

I will be the fat, but very good looking :D, fellow in a green hat.

Ha Ha, I will have to look for the hat. I will be wearing a red and black flannel shirt, blue jeans, and snow covered hair.... Be safe on your way to school everyone, I will see you there..:yeah:

Orientation has been done. On Tuesday the real fun begins. Quiz on Thursday and Sunday in Dose Calc!

Whew, I made it home safe and sound...yeah. Roads were good on the interstate on way home. Everyone else home safe yet? Was bummed cause I missed the dosage calc session and lab session. Anyone else able to attend those and have important info to relay? I'm gonna try and sign up for those missed sessions for next week sometime. I really wanted to go to Dosage Calc cause I'm concerned about that part. Yikes...sounds like we have quizzes coming up in there per the previous thread. I need to brush up on my math pronto. I thought the Simulation lab was pretty cool.

I thought the roads driving home were better than in the morning, even after snowing all day. I got home pretty much in the normal amount of time.

I think the quizzes for Thursday and Sunday were for Lab, not dosage calc stuff?

We never found Leen! Didn't see anyone with a red and black flannel shirt. But we managed to find Carlos even without the green hat that his wife wouldn't let him wear LOL.

Karen, the dosage calc session was just mainly a powerpoint about math and how we should not be afraid of it. They didn't really say much specific, other than that the syllabus for Fundamentals will have the schedule of what chapters in the dosage calc book we should be doing ourselves at home and when.

Specializes in Neurology.

I thought it was a bummer also having to miss out on the two sessions. Chris and I missed simulation lab and clinical, darn snow! Library session was good, but so much info at once! :uhoh3: Oh well, looking forward to the make-up sessions to see what we missed.

Anyone else totally exhausted? Between the drive and the "101 ways to fail out of nursing school speeches" I am about drained. I certainly understand the strict policies, but man, I left feeling paranoid of missing a minute of class. I am going to have to find some "back up" to my back up child care plans!

Hope we run into each other next week!

If this semester is anything like last semester....we had 2 online quizzes every week. 1 in fundamentals, and 1 in lab. fundamentals only lasts 5 weeks but lab is the whole semester. so plan on lab quizzes every week the entire semester.

for us, the dosage calc was complete self teach. so keep up on it b/c you'll want to pass that test.

did they talk to you guys about signing up for peer mentoring? is anyone interested in hooking up w/ a peer mentor, or does that seem lame? (just curious what you all thought). I heard they were going to offer it to you guys this semester.

Yeah, I am worried about if one of my kids wakes up sick one day, what to do. I have no family here and nobody that could come to my house by 8am to babysit a sick kid, because all my neighbors/friends have young children that they would be busy getting ready for school. The good thing is that on clinical days, I will gone out of the house long before any sick child would wake up, so my husband would have to deal with it, heh heh. Maybe we'll just have a healthy winter. . . all my kids have both seasonal and h1n1 flu vaccine in them, so keeping fingers crossed for only colds but no fevers and no puking sicknesses! Anything else, they are going to school!

Ivy, I wasn't sure what to think about the mentor thing. . . Not even having started the program yet, it's hard to know what we might need advice/help with and I wouldn't want to sign up and then feel like I was wasting their time.

I understand. The mentors are there to help you if you need questions, just to give you guys SOMEONE who has been there/done that , to contact if you should have any questions about how to survive, study tips, how to organize, what to expect, or a need to vent. You will find that nobody except those in the program understand the stress you are under.

I wish we had mentors b/c there were so many times that I felt overwelmed and needed advice from others who had succeeded. shoot, I still need a mentor!!!! =)
