Ivy Tech Fall 2011

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

HI! I know that I am not the only one out there working on prereqs to get into the nursing program at Ivy Tech. This thread will be for the Fall 2011 applicants *applying next April! We will get there!!!!

I am now working on APY 101 and Psy 101 this summer online. They are tough, but I am holding my own! A few more weeks. Anyone else out there?

Shouldn't your total score be 180.3 (assuming 90.3 pts from the TEAS)? The classes are only out of 90.

(btw, I promise I'm not on this site all the time. I just get topic reply notifications sent to my phone because I used the same email addy for my membership on here as the one I have synced up to my phone. lol)

ooops :o so 4 A's is 90...so 180.3

you allnurses STALKER! ;)

When are you taking it??

so 190.3 would have been more points than possible...I for sure would have gotten in! :jester:

lol. You caught me :p

I'm planning on taking it sometime either at the end of January or in early February. Most likely it'll be at the end of Jan so that I'll have enough time to retake it in case I screw up.

@ ace13, I have a question about the Teas I am studying from the ATI study guide and I wanted to know how was the science portion and what would you recommend studying the most as in general for the entire test. I plan on taking mine in like mid February no later than mid March. In the study guide there is so much information and while most of it is review I am still nervous about what to study for, so could you please post something.;)

ladytee,

I really didn't think the test was that hard. I freaked myself out reading all these posts about how this test is so much harder than the other version and how everyone is doing so much worse and how it is "all over the place."

From my experience, I thought that the grammar and spelling was really tricky and I missed a bunch in there. The science I did pretty well on ( mostly anatomy-which I have just finished in APHY 1 and 2). There was very little on my test about chemistry and maybe one question on physics (thankfully!!). The math was really, really easy IMO-I think I only missed one or two in the whole section and it is all just addition/subtraction/multiplication/division long hand with some fractions and percentages mixed it. I think there was one geometry question about area of a rectangle The reading part was long (passages were a page long) and then you would have questions about comprehension...not too hard either.

Now, that being said, I have heard that every day there is a different version of the test, and that some days science is harder, some days math, some days reading etc. This was just my experience and I have been wanting to hear about anyone else that has taken the test to see if they thought the test was pretty basic, too.

I wouldn't stress too bad about it. I am thinking about taking it again (more relaxed) to see if I do better! I hate to spend another $40, though!

did that help, ladytee??

@ ace13

so you took anpy 102 online and what about lab and that did help :uhoh3:

Yes, I took both 101 and 102 online. The lab is online as well done at home. Some are computer simulations and some were dissections. Some people did not do the dissections and just watched youtube videos on the process. You could do this, but I really enjoyed the dissections and seeing it first hand. Your choice if you buy the at home lab kit. All lab sheets were downloaded off Blackboard (no need to order a lab book) Mine was based out of Columbus.

I finally got up the courage to take the TEAS and took it this morning! I scored advanced, 86.0%, in the 97th percentile. I was pretty happy with my score since I have been out of school for about 8 years..but I am wondering if 86% will be good enough?? I have all A's in my pre-reqs (even though they are from a while back). The math was super easy..the science was totally confusing. I had a lot of chemistry and some A&P - maybe one physics question. The way they asked the questions was just confusing to me. I actually did better in science than I did in language - which is very surprising because I scored 100% on the language practice tests. I had quite a bit of sentence structure and fluency questions. Apparently my opinion on the fluency of a sentence isn't the same as the test writer's. I have everything ready to put in my applications (applying to Lafayette, Kokomo, and Logansport) but I am just debating over whether or not to retry for a higher score on the TEAS..what do you guys think? Anyone else taken the TEAS yet? I heard the cutoff scores were really high last year...that worries me a little bit.

Well, I know that for the Indy campus the cutoff scores were set at the equivalent to all A's + an 88 on the TEAS for the RN program last Fall. You have a good TEAS score, but I'd retake it just to try to squeeze out as many points from the test as you can.

hduckworth:

It is impossible to know what the cutoffs are going to be or what is going to be good enough. I have taken the TEAS once and will most likely take it again just for peace of mind that I have done everything that I could possibly do to improve my chances of acceptance. I would be so mad at myself if I missed the cut off by a point or two and didn't take advantage of taking the TEAS a second time, you know?? :uhoh3:
