Is there anyone else out there, or is it just me? :)
I'd love to connect with others who are applying for the Fall 2017 nursing program.
I am signed up to complete my prerequisites in the spring. English and Public Speaking are already done with an A, from a prior degree with Ivy Tech. They are also going to waive the IVY112 class because I am an Ivy Tech grad.
So I am signed up for APHY101, MATH123, PSYC101, and SOC111.
On one hand, I can't wait for classes to start! On the other hand, with the Holidays, I know the time is going to fly by.
I have the TEAS study guide from Amazon (ATI TEAS Secrets Study Guide: TEAS 6 Complete Study Manual, Full-Length Practice Tests, Review Video Tutorials for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Sixth Edition: 9781516703838: Medicine & Health Science Books @ Amazon.com) and I am studying it and looking through the first practice test. So far, so good! Lots of info there to cover. Will keep me busy, for sure.
About me: My degree is in Business Administration and my work history is mostly in accounting, but I've been home with our 3 boys for the past 16 years. We have homeschooled for the past seven years. They all went to public school this year, and they are doing GREAT! Now I need a new direction, as well... I've got maybe 30 years of working ahead of me, and I want to have a solid career. I hated being stuck at a desk. Nursing ~ here we go!
Finished my APHY102 finals today, and I am DONE with that class! Felt so good. 83/85 on lecture final ~ looking like 97% overall grade for the class. I'll take it! :)
How is everyone else doing? Any updates?
Leadkrm, can't wait to hear about your second semester of nursing school.
I've finally got orientation tomorrow 9:00-2:00. Looking forward to it! I only know three of us who are going to be in the program, out of 40 accepted. Will be interesting to see if there are any other familiar faces from my pre-reqs.
So summer semester is officially over for me. I passed all of my classes and I am moving on to semester 3 this fall and taking advanced anatomy and physiology on Saturdays. My clinical class was on a much busier unit this semester. I did like the faster pace because the day flew by. I shadowed in endoscopy and interventional radiology and I do believe I have decided to be an O.R. Nurse. It was really nice watching surgeries and seeing how far the nursing role could go. Pharm was hard, but it's just memorization. Seems like it's easier to remember what's different about drugs with in a class because the similarities are so abundant. Med surg 2 was just more in depth info about the same things from med surg 1. If everything goes smoothly I'll be on course to graduate after the spring semester is over.
Leadkrm ~ so cool that you are starting to zero in on the areas you're interested in. Congrats on another semester done!
We have to take Pharmacology the first semester. That's really the only class that remains constant for the entire 16 weeks. Everything else changes... We have one schedule for the first 4 weeks, new schedule for weeks 4-8, new schedule for weeks 8-16.
Leadkrm ~ good to hear from you! :) What sort of fun clinicals are you doing now?
Umm, I'm still alive... haha. Had our first exam today, in Fundamentals. That was ok, but haven't seen my score yet.
I dropped Chemistry online -- there was no freakin way. The intro quizzes & tutorial with the 12 slides of how to use the software and put your answers in "just so" was enough to about send me over the edge. I'm in awe of anyone who can accomplish that class online. Seriously.
I'm not sure how it is on other campuses, but we've got Fundamentals jammed into just 4 short weeks -- 3x per week. Add Pharm to that, as well (and of course lab, 3x per week) ~ yeah, the pace is just nuts.

DBP ~ good luck on your TEAS tomorrow! Please do come back and let us know how you do. It sounds to me like you've done a lot of preparing. Do your best -- that's all you can do. Remember that you DO get another chance at it, if you want to improve your score. So it will be okay!
